Which way do you wear them?
A shopper
on Nov 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will notice that the ear pads are angled, meaning they taper. You would wear them with the thinner side of the ear pads facing forward, thicker side of the ear pads to the back of your head with the head band over the top of your head and the cable running down your chest.

it is comfortable but the weight is felt quickly enough after 30 min before you buy it ask yourself 3 question you are looking for a headset with bc details with a completely virtual sound scene and low sub 100% natural but with a small touch of bass style sony mdr 950 xb which weighs heavy with 3 put girl if that's what you want is the perfect helmet otherwise I advise you to better search again you can have better as worse but if having a sound stage seré wide but with 0 naturele and especially takes into account you is real me personally I was disappointed by the lack of natural and the weight of the helmet even if for me there is little see no helmet with so many details but his lack of natural sound stage teleports me into a virtual world

What is the soundstage like on these headphones?
New User U
on May 16, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Soundstage is above average for a pair of closed-back headphones, but still nowhere near that of a decent pair of open-back headphones. In my opinion, the soundstage with these are more "deep" then they are "wide". If your number one priority is soundstage, one with a lot of "air" around the instruments, you may want to look into open-back designs. Open-backs aren't an option for me, so I 've learned to live with the compromised soundstage.

Great instrument/sound separation and location (easy to tell where the sound is coming from) but since it isn't open back, the soundstage doesn't feel WIDE; sounds are closer to your head and don't sound "distant" like headphones with wide soundstages. Tldr; wider and more accurate soundstage than dynamic drivers, but not as wide as similar open back headphones.

I find it to be excellent, for a closed back. Definitely above average, and you can remove the wood cups, and turn them into a better M1060, as the closed version has a better driver. Without the cups, it is huge! Even with the cups, it is huge, compared to other closed back planars.

When used with the cups on (closed back), the soundstage is average. However, with the cups removed (open back), they really shine and the soundstage opens up considerably.

I wouldn't say I noticed any, I believe that is more characteristic of dynamic drivers than it is planars. If anything, it is more of a brain burn in. I found I got used to them a lot easier with the backs opened. Sounds better that way too in my opinion.

Monolith by Monoprice M1060 Over Ear Open Back Planar Magnetic Headphones
BEST ANSWER: Much better (I have both). Although the ATH-M50 sound good and can be easily powered by a Dragonfly Cobalt for travelling, the M1060C is fantastic after burn in and a minor mod. Remove the cups (this is key)! M1060Cs are my daily drivers and one of the best investments in headphones I've made. Using SMSL SH-9 with Ares II right now and a touch of EQ for low-end head shaking slam. I also have Sundaras, GoldPlanar GL2000s, Aryas, Raal SR1as, electrostatics and others.

How do these sound compare to the 1060? Bass, midrange, treble, soundstage?
New User U
on Jan 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Still breaking in my new C's but they have nice and tight bass (a little less smooth than the 1060's but not broken in yet), midrange is neutral (not v-shaped) to me, perhaps slightly more forward than the 1060's, and the treble is spot-on, not too bright not to dark., These respond well to a little EQ ( I recommend using JRiver Media Center). Being closed back, they are as expected - a little better imaging, but a little narrower soundstage compared to the 1060's. But they sound excellent to me so far and if you are looking for a closed-back planar magnetic headphone, you won't find a better set at anywhere near this price retail.

These aren't exactly portable, why such low impedance?
Chris B
on Feb 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: They are low impedance so they are easier to drive with portable devices - and they are closed back, so although bulky and not strictly a 'portable' headphone, they won't "disturb the neighbors" if/when used in public. And I can easily understand why someone will use them mobile, since they sound gooood... :-)

Any chance of creating a hybrid of these like the m560s where they can be either open or closed by way of a removable earcup?
A C
on Feb 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I can't tell you how it may sound with the wooden cup removed but can tell you the wooden cup is removable. My set arrived with the grain on one cup being horizontal and the other cup being vertical, I just rotated the one cup to match the other, hole spacing is identical. It did seem as though my screws had been blue locktited so be careful removing the screws so not to strip the screw heads or scratch the wooden cups.

This is the method I ended up using. The wood caps are held in by four small philips screws. Once removed, I was able to tighten the bail screw using a small (shorter than the diameter of the earpieces) screwdriver. The tricky part was getting the cap back on - it's smaller than the earpiece so it's not self-centering. Once I realized that it was a little easier. Use a bent paper clip to line up the hole in the wood to the hole in the frame. After the first screw is in, the rest are easy.

I had the exact same problem, I peeled off the padded ear cup and that gave me enough room to get in there with a screwdriver and fix it

I see screws, will these have a removable wood panel if you want to change it from closed to open? (or are they designed for closed only?). If so would these panels be compatible with existing m1060 (open) and the wood cover be available for purchase separately?
I would assume no, because for one there is some slight spec differences and I assume these will be closed only.

How is the isolation on these? Could they be used on the plane well? I know they aren't noise cancelling but...

The original pair of 1060Cs I purchased had a right angle plug at the end of the cable; after I RMA'd them due to a problem I was having, the new ones had a cable with a straight plug. Does this indicate different versions of the headphones I've been sent, or is the plug the only difference? The pictures on this page show both plug styles.

BEST ANSWER: It's just the plug. We haven't altered the actual headphone in any way.

Good sound, awkward headband. Good buy for a beginner.
Good sound, easy to drive. These headphones sound as good or better than others available at their price. Specially now that they keep going on sale.
I was expecting to have to buy a dac/amp to drive them but was pleasantly surprised how easy they were to drive.
The bad parts are the headband and the cable.
The cables get tangled easily, they develop kinks due to the stuff braiding, and worst of all they transfer the noise from the cable bumping and rubbing on stuff really easily. The cable is easy to replace. Monorice offers a compatible set cables in a pretty clear copper color.
The worst part is the headband. It is uncomfortable and does not provide very secure support. The headphones are heavy which would be a problem with a more supportive headband. As it is it feels like my leaning forward or turning my head too quickly is going to slide the headphones off my head.
The cups have a curved piece of metal attached to posts that is supposed to screw onto the headband using a nut and bolt. Somehow I always find the bolt loose. It's become a habit for me to hand tighten it before putting them on.
I've seen aftermarket headbands and tutorials to swap the cups to open backs. I'll be keeping them stock but I am glad to see that there are ways to modify and improve them.
Despite their flaw. These are good sounding headphones and a good introduction to higher end headphones.

Excellent Sound
Perfect, many good Bass, strong, sub bass all goes very low, mids are up and fun, treble is clear but no silibant, I listened Emu Teak and this has better and wide soundstage, Emu has more detail and clarity and pin out also is better despite small soundstage, Always keep my M1060C because the complete sound, also the biggest soundstage make a more relaxing sound, is a fun headphone, even better than Focal Elex. I made a MOD with the color of cups very easy to do.

Great cans.
These things sound GREAT. The clarity is outstanding without being annoyingly bright. Mids are strong and full; I haven't noticed the drop-off some have mentioned. Bass is also strong and clear. The organ in the Canadian Brass' Haleluia Chorus made my ears actually shake. But if you're looking for the thump that some fans of (c)rap want, strap pair of subs on and go for it.
My only minor complaint is like some others: I wish they hadn't stained the wood so dark so that the grain showed up better.

Excellent sound, mediocre ergonomics
Sound quality is phenomenal for the price, but comfort leaves a lot to be desired. If you have a large head you will need to put extra padding between the head strap and the metal band.

Nice sound
Compared to a much less expensive set of Bluetooth headphones (used as wired) from Monoprice, these definitely sound slightly better. The experience is more like hearing the audio in an open room, vs the somewhat "boxed-in" feel of the less expensive ones. But I admit, to my ears, the difference is very subtle. Some say these are as good as headphones costing 2-3X the price; at $300, they are at the upper bound of what I'd be willing to pay for the slight increase in audio quality. I never would pay $1000 for headphones if this is as good as it gets.
For their weight, they are quite comfortable. I haven't had any problem wearing them for extended periods of time. But they are very heavy. At the same time, they don't actually block ambient noise out as well as I would've thought, given their heft. So, there's room for improvement.
But if you want a really clear sound, that makes you feel like you're in the room with the performer, and your budget can handle the price, these seem to me to be a very good option.

Amazing, but...
The sound is amazing. The adjustable headband is a massive disappointment. By far the worst I've ever used.

The wires that connect to the phones fall out easily and are do not make good contact, I am skilled working on audio products and will fix that.
I am amazed how good they sound. Would give them 5 stars if they didn't have the problem I mentioned above.

Probably my endgame headphones super great value with a good amp
Very warm sounding headphones with phenomenal soundstage (it?s extremely nice wide) and the best bass I?ve heard in a pair of closed back headphones; punchy and tight with a great amount of quantity that isn?t muddy and doesn?t interfere with the mids.
The headphones do need a good amount of juice to drive them though. I?m running a FiiO E10K with mine and the volume knob is maxed with the pc volume being at around 30-40%.
