All speaker wire has markings on the jacket of one of the connectors. This usually consists of a blue or white stripe. Sometimes it's just the printed text with the specifications of the wire. As long as you consistently connect the marked conductor to the same polarity (say positive/red) you will be good to go!

Conductors are not specifically marked + or - but there is a blue line on one of the wire that you can use as marker.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, according to the International wiring standard the tracer wire is Positive but make sure you follow the coding of your system if someone other than yourself did the installation. Always check they may have used the reverse.

What is the diameter of this wire? Is it overall more compact than the Access Series CL2 rated wire of the same AWG? I already have some of the Access Series but I can't fit 3 runs of it under my baseboard (hidden behind the carpet) and am hoping this speaker wire is more compact and will work for that purpose.

10 + years back I bought I bought 12 gauge wire from monoprice, oxygen free cooper it was 100 feet, I probably spend 25$ on it, that roll has 36 feet left if that, I have since moved and in the new room I need at lest 93 feet of wire. Longest run of wire I gonna need is probably 38 feet, and from there the run will get lower and lower, Thing is I gonna run the wire under a carpet along the walls, And I found that 12 gauge to be bit to thick, I am assuming 14 gauge will much better, cause with it cover on it too thick and I find the wires when exposed is to thick to thread properly into my speakers and receiver current speakers and receiver have to have the actually wires thread into them.
Will 14 gauge or even 16 gauge be ok for running the wires under carpet around the side the walls to where they need to be? Nothing will be placed on top of where the wires will be ran under the carpet other then the carpet. 1 cable run will be 38 (feet Rear Left), all other speaker runs will be 23 (Rear Right), 15 (Front Left), 11 (Front Right) , 8 (Center) if I choose to just staple them to side of wall bottom frame this wont matter but I don't want to see the wires.

The blue strip marked is positive or negative?
Kasiram R
on Jun 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
It would be neither.
These cables do not have a polarity, that mark is to help you determine which cable you connected to either the positive or negative port on your receiver and speaker.
It would be neither.

Hi, There is soooo much debate + confusion about speaker wire that seems to be purposely perpetrated by wire manufacturers + sellers + their attorney concerning verbiage. Is this wire 100% pure copper( not sure what bare copper might mean to US attorneys) ? ~~~ not sure what "pure " might mean in the same attorney context.

The wire is fine. However it is not 'unbranded' as it says on the site. Monoprice is printed right on the wire.

The real thing.
It wasn't easy to find 14GA speaker wire that was solid copper. There is a lot of CCA out there, but I finally found Monoprice and they came through. This is going to be a huge improvement for my home theater!

Extremely adequate cable
This wire showed up as described, and for a good sales price. I did not measure the 100 foot length or do a cross section check on the copper or do a metallurgical analysis to see the purity, but unless I am mistaken this absolutely *is* pure copper and not copper coated aluminum or anything like that. The insulation seems totally normal, and it cuts and strips as expected, like any other wire Ive purchased. The overall shopping experience and product was free of surprises, and I feel like this we a satisfactory transaction with nothing noteworthy to report. Im certain that I will forget about the whole thing before long, but I think its worth taking a moment to reflect on things when they do go as planned and nobody is ripping you off. We focus on the negative so often or make things a big deal when they dont need to be. If everybody could just chill the F out, maybe the world would be a little nicer and we could come together to eat some pastries and maybe talk about literature.
