When using the pull-down feature, can you adjust how far down the TV can go, or is only one setting? In other words, can I stop it mid way down if I don't want to pull it all the way down?

The mount has an adjustable tension mechanism and once you set it correctly based on the weight of your TV, the TV will stop whereever you want it too. If the TV doesn't stay where you want it to, adjust the tension until it holds where you want it. I really like my mount and I get tons of compliments.

Yes you can set your TV to any height. There is a counterbalance adjustment that you must have said based on the weight of whatever you put on it (TV & sound bar), etc.
Other notes: This is not a fully articulating mount.
The TV can only travel down straight down from the wall and right/left pivot action occurs at the TV mounting point at the end of the arm. (Which is fine for most applications)
We bought a 55 inch Samsung TV which had 200 mm vesa mounting points which were too small 4 the original intended mounting points (vertical rails). As previously noted in other reviews you will need to buy a reducing adapter plate. And likely longer screws for the TV. After several trips to a specialty
screws type hardware store, I managed to get ideal screw hardware. Do not use the new adapter plate's small screws for anything on this project! Please use the fattest screws that will fit in any position requiring new fastners.
Critical warning: You should reduce the spring tension to the minimum before you start this project! It is set for the maximum and you will bend the mounting rails trying to (test) pull this down.
Most importantly! This is a great tv mount. I have no complaints, even though I had to go the distance to make it work for me. I have been around AV equipment all my life, and this is currently the best you can buy.
What to improve:
Reduce the TV mounting size range down to 200mm.
Reduce horizontal support rail size too as they are excessively long, and for 200mm VESA mounts, these should not even required.
Offer a version that has a pivot/hinge at the wall.
Provide for better cable management. (Cable tracks, clips, holes for zip-ties) anything, as long as it's robust!

Yes you can! You can stop it anywhere! You must adjust the nut based on the weight of your TV. With the nut properly adjusted the tv mount can stop anywhere you want it to. Also very important. Check the instructions that came with your tv for the necessary length of bolts to use to attach tv to mount. The mount comes with a few different length bolts I think up to 25mm. I have a samsung tv which requires much longer bolts to attach the tv to the mount. I bought the correct length bolts with the correct thread pitch from a local hardware shop

It's works with hydraulics and there are no "settings" per se. I just tested mine to answer this question and it seems to stop either all the way up or all the way down. This is totally fine for me as I would only be pulling it down when I'm watching a movie on the couch (I personally don't have need for "intermediate " settings). The TV can articulate to the right and the left whether it's in full up or down position. Overall it's a solid device and I'm pleased with it.

Yes , I would recommend locating your studs first . Fireplaces are tricky. If your studs are centered and you can hit them both without having the mount offset that’s the best layout . If not I suggest a piece of plywood just big enough to get the mount centered.

I use this mount and I have a 50” Panasonic Plasma model TC-p50gt30. Very heavy TV and Works great. Very adjustable, regardless of weight. I have a heavy sound bar bolted on too and I just used the enclosed Allen head wrench to adjust the tension. More than enough hardware to make anything work. I plan to upgrade to 70” in a year or so. Can’t see the mount at all when it is in the up position, with my 50”. You should not have a problem.

My mantle extends 9" from the wall. Does the mounting height need to change if i start with a 55" TV and then move to a larger TV later? Also, If I mount for 55" TV now and TV looks centered between mantle and ceiling...how will changing to a 65" TV later affect this? Will it still look center or the entire mount has to be re-adjusted for the larger TV? Same question with soundbar mounted at the base of the TV. How will it affect the mounting height?

BEST ANSWER: This Fireplace Bracket will work with mantles that extend out to 16". If your 55" TV is centered between the mantle and the ceiling then you shoud be good when you upgrade you TV. The part that attaches to the TV does have some flexibility up/down to get your height right. The soundbar may be an issue with the new one depending on the height of the SB. If your TV and soundbar are centered you should be good.

My setup...75" with a 10" mantle. I have the bottom bracket 4" above the mantle. This gives me an 1.5" clearance between the bottom of the TV and the mantle and allows me to clear the mantle when I pull the TV out and down. I think you should be fine if you center the 55" between the mantle and ceiling. Good Luck...I hope this helped

Unfortunately, there is not a standard for the vertical position of the mounting holes on the back of the TV. The size of a mantle the TV will clear is entirely dependent on the height at which the TV is placed on the mount. I chose a position for the mount based on a couple of TVs I was considering. I just did the math and made sure both TVs would work and clear the mantle.

The size of the TV doesn't really matter. Once you mount the hanger on the wall, you wouldn't have to re-hang it for a different size TV. The mounting brackets at the front may have to be changed/adjusted, but the wall bolts won't have to be changed. Yes, everything will be centered, but again you may have to adjust the front brackets. Hope that helps.

My 55" TV VESA is 200 x 200. According to the specs of the mount, the minimum required VESA is 300 x 300. Is there not an adapter or way to make it work?
New User U
on Oct 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't think that a 200 x 200 mount will work properly. If you can see a picture of the mount, the upright arms are adjustable along the horizontal axis, and can only go in so far. I don't believe they will move in close enough to fit the holes in the uprights. I really like this fireplace mount and recommend it to everyone. Another thought: I install many TVs, well over a thousand in my business, and don't know of many 55 inch TVs with a 200 x 200 spacing. Perhaps your TV will also fit down to a 200 x 200 VESA mount, but it might also go larger. Some VESA mounts / TVs come with an adapter. If you look at the TV's model online, it might show several options. Hope this helps.

Most mounts start at 200x200. Then go up to 600x600. I would check your tv specs and mount specs to be sure. I’ve installed a few tvs before and 200x200 seems to be narrow for a tv that size there adapters you just have to search. You maybe able to call mono price and tell them the situation with your tv specs vesa mounts. And they should be able to help.

Monopric has changed the description to say that the minimum is 300x300 even though it used to say 200x200 and so does the user manual. I’ve been waiting to hear back from them on how to remedy this.

I absolutely love this mount and have had many over the last 20 years. It works as advertised and is super stable. I would recommend it without reservation. It lowers the TV to a comfortable viewing height then glides above the fireplace. Installation is straightforward. Buy it!

What Is the lifespan of the hydraulic arm?
New User U
on Jun 29, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Likely 20+ years, depending on how much use/abuse it gets.
It has 2 pneumatic air springs that do all the work. These are just like what holds up the hatchback window in your older cars. However these are not left out in the hot sun and they will last much longer.
All that said, read the warranty. I'm sure it's not more than a year. Also, I hate to tell you but you will not find another product quite like this! Love it or leave it.
I've got mine installed at a cabin and it looks great. I get compliments on it all the time.

if I mount this on a flat wall and I hinge tv down to the lowest position, how far from the all will the screen be?
Scott L
on Oct 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: In my case the back of the TV is 22 inches from the wall. Keep in mind that there is the thickness of the mount itself which is about 2 inches so if you are looking for wall clearance it is 20 inches. Also keep in mind that the mount can tilt the screen which would reduce clearance if you did tilt your TV. I have had the mount about a year supporting a 75" TV and it works great.

BEST ANSWER: It rotates side to side, +/- 30 degrees. It does not translate, or pan side to side. However, there is a bit of flexibility when mounting, if your studs are off center. BEST ANSWER: OUr mantle is actually 8 inches as well and the mount is on a wall inset above our fireplace that actually sits 6 inches back from the living room wall . If you were to mount it on a flat wall full up it comes out about 16 inches. The TV drops about 2 feet . We like it because in the morning when sitting in the kitchen we put it up above the fireplace and turn it to see. When hanging out in the LR its nice to look straight at it just above the fireplace inset not craning your neck. When it is fully down you might watch the heat from your fireplace when it is on. THe swivel and up and down features are great and the metal bracket is very stable. Get help to install it ad hang your tV - not a one man job.

#1 In the fully up position, it's roughly 4" from the wall. In other words from the back of the TV to the wall is about 4".
Since we purchased this to pull down over a whiteboard in a church conference room, we've not needed to pull it down since it tilts beautifully so I'm going from memory on far far it pulls down, but I believe it's about 2'.

I can't say for certain if it'll work but 18.5" is a very wide mantle. My mantle is 10". The bottom of the mount is 5" above the mantle. With the mount fully extended the arm clears the mantle by a little less than 3". With a wider mantle the mount would have to be installed higher to clear the mantle. With such a wide mantle may have issues of tv clearing the mantle too. I first purchased this mount in August and have learned there are some serious design flaws with it. One serious flaw is there is a completely unnecessary tilt down feature. The weight of a large tv will cause the tv to tilt downward toward the floor. The other horrible design flaw of this mount is that the bolt that is used to connect the gas pistons to the mount is barely long enough and comes loose. The bolt on the first mount came loose and the gas pistons broke. The mount has a lifetime warranty. I called monoprice and returned the mount and received a replacement. To fix the issue of the tilt down I added perforated hanger strips attached with a bolt and nut to keep it from tilting down. The bolt that connect the gas pistons has to be tightened with the provided hex key and loctite red added to the bolt to make sure it doesn't come loose

I haven't found an adapter plate for this mount. However, in the past, I have done this a couple of ways: 1) Attach 2x6 boards across the opening above the fireplace, and then attach the mount to these 2x6's, and 2) I took the time to cut out the sheet rock and install 2x4's to reinforce the wall structure, and then reattach the sheet rock. I used an oscillating tool to carefully cut out the sheet rock so it was easier to reinstall.

At it's maximum distance from the wall, the mount is approximately 28 inches from the wall. That max distance is when the mount is pulled down halfway height-wise. As you pull it down further, it starts to get closer to the fireplace again (like it travels in an arc). I don't think the distance from the wall can be adjusted.
