BEST ANSWER: I’ve had these earbuds for almost a year now and have had zero issues. The cable is a non-issue and shouldn’t sway your purchase. I use these as my primary IEMs and love them. I’ve used more expensive brands and I now can’t justify the cost after using the MP80’s.
I’m not sure how much more conductive the material used versus other brands, but these are a twisted, sleeved, stranded and possibly aluminum wire. I hope this helps.

it's not bad. wish it was A. longer (too short) and B. was a bit more robust in the actual wire cabling. like I said... not terrible. they sound grand. I've used many different 'over the counter' ear buds. fidelity-wise, these are up there with the best of "em. I use these live (singing drummer) and they're just ducky. BEST ANSWER: I don't have my earbuds with me at the moment, but if I remember correctly the connectors just push on so the earbuds themselves can freely rotate. Look closely to see if it's actually threaded. The only threaded bit on these I KNOW is for the three Tuning Nozzles.

If you're talking about what I think you are, it's tension based rather than a thread you can spin on to. Takes a good amount of force to push it on, more than you'd think. And yes, I spent that same maddening half hour before I arrived at that.

Assuming you mean the connection from the wire to the earbud, it is a snap in connector not a screw. The tuning nozels are screw in however.

It's not threaded. It should "snap" into place, rotate in both directions freely and smoothly, and sound excellent.

Do these need to be “burned in” by running pink noise thru them for 24 hours? If I don’t have a pink noise generator what would you recommend to use instead? Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: As an audiophile who is very perceptive of tones and frequencies as well intolerant to distortion and sounds that are not reproduced accurately, I noticed no difference from the first play out of the box to subsequent plays using these earbuds. That said there are the 3 options you must listen to to choose which ones sound the best to you. Also the various plugs that fit in your ear will make a difference to the sound quality. As with all earbuds, if they are not seated properly in the ear canal, the bass tends to disappear and other tones are weak as well. Break in periods for electronics tends to be a myth or at least unprovable. In my experience I have only noticed a few components seem to get better over time. But I have noticed that my perceptions of some have changed the more I listen and comprehend more of what I am actually hearing. Mostly time reveals to me the flaws in the component not usually a change in the sound. Of course if you attempt to burn them in, you will never know if it really made any difference or not as you won’t have a comparison to judge. So I say just use them to listen to music instead of sending any kind of signal tone through them and then judge for yourself if they sound different from the first play to additional plays. It won’t make any difference whether it is a single tone or the varied frequencies of songs to the “Break-in” process. In fact it would likely be better that way if the process is truly real as speakers are dynamic not static when it comes to tones.

I don't claim to be an audiophile. I didn't do a "burn in" or anything special. I started using them right out of the package and haven't had any problems with them. I've had them for over a year and they continue to be great. Great sound and comfortable. I absolutely recommend these.

I don't know about burning them in. Try the earphones with each of the 3 different attachments and find a sound that you like. Personally, I think they are very good and I own some Etymotics ($300) and Oppo PM2 and PM3's. For the price, these are tough to beat. I hope this helps.

Need to, no. It does improve a little bit if you do. There are a number of noise generator apps for phones if yours has a port for it, and there's several options for PC and Mac that would do the trick as well.

I can’t say for sure as I haven’t tried the aftermarket foam tips. But, the tip assortment that comes with the MP80’s is nice. Foam and flanged in multiple sizes.

Is it intended these are worn so the wire going away from the drivers, goes around the top of the ear from front to back, or back to front? Or is it up to the user's preference? Not particularly important to me - just curious. I own and love these.

BEST ANSWER: No mic, but one of the great features of the MP80 is that they have detachable connector so you can use aftermarket cables with microphone and/or with Bluetooth adapters. Look for ones with MMCX connectors on the earphone side and 3.5mm (1/8th inch) on the source side. Don't worry about balanced cables unless you have a source with balanced outputs. I am using some braided copper replacements that cost $30. They sound as good or better than the cable that came with these, but they are so much more comfortable and functional with zero tangling challenges. Makes the MP80 even more wonderful than they already were.

My left any right channels are switched! Yes, I know I can put the R on the L cable, but for such awesome sounding IEM's - I am astounded that something so basic was overlooked. I have cross referenced with other pairs and speakers to be sure. Has anyone else had this problem??

How do these compare to Shure 215? I currently have the quintets, but they don't fit my ears well, and these seem a bit smaller. Has anyone been able to side-by-side comparison with any comparable iem's?

Perfect for Building an Affordable IEM System!
Very pleased with the MP80's. Fabulous build quality and sonic performance. I suspect they are equal to or better than many name brand IEM's costing hundreds more.

Tuning nozzles seemed to make little difference.

MCXX connector allows you to change cord to a bluetooth adapter (although having had MCXX and the 2 pin on the Quintets, I'd choose the 2 pin)
Keeping these wired to use with desktop, keeping quintet bluetooth for everywhere else.

Amazing on all levels
These earbuds arrived quickly but the left one was dead on arrival. I contacted Mono price and within two days they sent me a new pair no questions asked. This company has fantastic products at affordable price and outstanding customer service!

great performance for the price
I record video podcasts, as well as many zoom calls, I have the Shure 215, and I do prefer these for comfort. There might be a minor difference in the audio quality between the Shure 215 and the MonoPrice, but my experience is that prefer the MonoPrce earphones for overall comfort, an easy-to-hide cable, although the cable length is on approx 3.5 ft. Also, the over-the-ear cable support is better in my opinion on the monoprice MP80.

I like them!
My Monoprice Trio IEMs broke so I was looking for another pair. I ended up picking the MP80s over the Quintets simply on price. I'm not that experienced with in-ear monitors so I just wanted a good set of earbuds.
I'm using the default tuning nozzle with the large silicone earbuds and I really like how they sound. I do wish, as one other reviewer stated, that the cord had a 90-degree plug...like the Trios.
I'm using the default tuning nozzle with the large silicone earbuds and I really like how they sound. I do wish, as one other reviewer stated, that the cord had a 90-degree plug...like the Trios.

Good quality headphones; I just wish they had a longer cable as I feel it is just slightly too short.

Pretty solid!
Okay, lets be honest here. You CAN get better sounding in-ears for the price. These do not beat out Shure SE215s in terms of sound. That being said, they are just as customizable in terms of cable, more customizable in tuning with the added nozzles, and their aluminum housing is much more durable than Shures plastic.
I bought these on sale and Im very glad I did. I am happy with my purchase. They sound nice but not perfect. Isolation leaves much to be desired no matter which style of tip. I would like a triple-flange silicone option. The nozzles are a very nice touch.
I like them and I could see myself buying them again, but not for anything over $60.
