My 2012 MacBook Pro is connected to an LG Ultrawide. All has to do with your laptop’s video capabilities.

Hello. will this be able to run 34 inch 2560x1080 monitor, only with HDMI connectors, from miniDP on mac mini mid 2011? I've tried moshi miniDP to HDMI adapter and it didn't work. Thanks

BEST ANSWER: I haven't tried it on a 34" monitor.... but we do use it on 32" monitors with Mac Pros to allow a 3 monitor setup and a 2015 era Mac mini to get a 2nd monitor. It also works on an older Mac Pro but that computer only supports 2 monitors. Since it's an active adapter it should work on any DisplayPort enabled computer. This adapter works where several other passive adapters have not on our Mac setups.

I've found it hard to know with adapters. Sometimes it's the adapter. Sometimes it's the hdmi cable. In theory it should handle 1080p. Not sure this helped or made it worse.

BEST ANSWER: I'm not certain if it will fully support 4k as we don't have many applications that use 4k. However we do use these adapaters all the time with MacBooks of all stripes with no problems.

What's the difference between this adapter (Product ID: 24269 - with UHD) and the similar adapter (Product ID: 33127 - with HDR)?
Gabriel R
on Aug 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: One supports UHD (the original 4k @60hz specification), and the other supports HDR (UHD + High Dynamic Range technology). The practical difference is minimal. If you have a TV/monitor that supports HDR, then getting the HDR compliant adapter will allow for a larger color space and I think a few other advantages to image quality.

Considering that HDR wasn't added to DisplayPort until version 1.4 how does HDR work with this adapter since its listed as only DisplayPort 1.2a?
Wikipedia says the following so perhaps the "1.2a" is a misnomer? I assume the cable is actually a HBR2 cable?
DisplayPort cables are not classified by "version". Although cables are commonly labeled with version numbers, with HBR2 cables advertised as "DisplayPort 1.2 cables" for example, this notation is not permitted by VESA. The use of version numbers with cables can seem to imply that a DisplayPort 1.4 display requires a "DisplayPort 1.4 cable", or that features introduced in DP 1.4 such as HDR or DSC will not function with older "DP 1.2 cables", when in reality neither of these are true. DisplayPort cables are classified only by their bandwidth certification level (RBR, HBR, HBR2, HBR3), if they have been certified at all.

Monoprice Mini DisplayPort 1.2a to 4K at 60Hz HDMI Active UHD Adapter
Great adapter, works exactly as described (I had previously ordered a different kind from Amazon and it was unidirectional the wrong way). Monoprice's description of the product was very clear and most importantly correct.

Works great with 2012 MacBook Pro!
Works great with my 2012 MacBook Pro. Had problems with a 2009 Dell laptop though. All has to do with the laptop output, however, not the adapter itself.

Thunderbolt / mini DVI versus USB 3.0 to HDMI
We had to move to the Thunderbolt adapter after Apple's update broke the USB adapter driver. This Thunderbolt adapter worked flawlessly, pure plug-in play and so far has performed better than the USB adapter as one might expect.

Used with 7750 video adaptor
The 7750 has two ports that are intelligent but the other four require active adapters. These adapters worked great on the 7750.

Intermitent
Used it to connect my Macbook Pro to my Samsung TV with a 1080p signal. It looked like it was working at first, but then there are flashes of black every 10-20 seconds. I switched out this adapter with a different one and everything was fine. Adapter is not as stable as I need.
