From SmartThings, can you tell if the door/window is open or closed? In other words, does it just alert when there is a state changed or can a ask it if it's open/closed? Thanks!
    A shopper on Aug 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it reports open/closed in the app. Anytime you look at it (or when any connected smartapps look at it) you'll see open/closed state.

BEST ANSWER: I had issues with this too until I added the device as secure. I read the instructions and there are two methods, unsecure and secure. Here's the steps I went through and I successfully added 5 devices.

    1) Stand about 1 ft from the smartthings HUB
    2) From your phone Add a device.
    3) While the phone is searching for the device, press and hold the little black button for 3 seconds.
    4) The sensor light will flash and your phone will detect the device.

    Thanks

Has anyone gotten a battery percentage over zwave? I have it setup but battery is not one of the variables that is being sent out.
    Dmitriy K on Feb 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I am running OpenHab2. Via the paperUI I found the Door/WIndow switch, "thing", and added it as an "item" and then edited which channels to show,. I choose "door sensor" and "battery level". If I then go to the "Control" UI, I see the status of the door switch and the battery level as a percentage. Works fine for me.
Will the various Z-Wave detectors work with our existing SimplySafe system?
    A shopper on Dec 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. SimpliSafe, although it uses Z-Wave, only uses proprietary SimpliSafe sensors. The Abode home security system allows certain 3rd party Z-Wave sensors, but I don't know if it connects to these ones.

    Wenfeng L on Sep 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You need to sign into the SmartThings API and change the device type. It should be set to Z-Wave Door Open/Close or Z-Wave Plus Open/Close, or get the custom device handler from Rboyapps for all the Monoprice Z-wave devices.

    Works great with Home Assistant
I purchased and added over a dozen of these door/window sensors about a month ago. Adding them to Home Assistant (in secure mode) was easy. These sensors each report status changes quickly (within a second).

The only issue I've had so far is regarding the tamper switch. A couple sensors didn't seem to have the tamper switch extend far enough when using the tape that came with the sensors, so as a result, were always in the "tamper" status. Probably could have exchanged for other sensor with monoprice, but it was simple enough to take some of the extra tape to "extend" the tamper switch, so it ended up not being a big deal.

    pretty good so far
I installed one of these sensors last week, and it works most of the time. However, it occasionally doesn't report status change. I have an event that will notify me if the door is open/closed during certain timeframe, and it doesn't work sometimes. I go in and look at the history of the sensor, and it doesn't even show open/close at a time when I know that it was. So far, it always works when I purposely try to test it, so I haven't figured out the problem yet.

    Drains battery in two days
Although its sensing functions seemed to work ok, the unit eventually began broadcasting its battery level every few seconds, ironically draining the battery within a couple of days. A new set of batteries resulted in same outcome. If monoprice gives me a replacement that works I’ll revise this review.

more than half of my ordered sensors were faulty.
Ordered 7 of those sensors. 4 were faulty; drained batteries in less than 24 hours.

I would NOT expect a faulty product after quality control. Getting a bad one in a large batch is possibly acceptable. But 4 out of 7 sensors ... come on!!

I RMAed the faulty ones for a replacement. I will post updates when I receive the replacements.

Awesome product at a great price.
I actually have the flush mount style. Very easy to install and connect with SmartThings as long as you follow directions. Some people complain about connection issues clearly didn’t follow the pairing instructions which are pretty simple. Very quick reaction times and have been very reliable so far.
