Does this transfer sound and video?
Dave H
on May 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. We run a 80' cat6 unshielded cable between buildings. We did not have shielded cable at the time. Works good. We pull the sound from the projector audio out and run it via RCA to a sound mixer/amp. We use a DI box to eliminate hum. All is good. If you are running to a tv with its own built in speakers the set up is easy and reliable. I like the loop back HDMI. the PC that we are sending to the other building has an HDM monitor that is driven from the loop back.

Yes, audio and video. Full HDMI spec. I will note that what quality of ethernet cable you use can make a huge impact in this unit's performance - it works best with high-quality Cat5e or Cat6 cable, make sure it's not kinked or damaged anywhere along the run. I used a pre-made Monster brand 50ft. Cat5e cable, and the unit worked exactly as advertised.

I use it for video only for an 8 channel surveillance dvr which has worked out well so far. As recording audio is prohibited in my state, I can't offer any insight on that. That said, it has done everything as advertised.

Yes, but if you are connecting direct to a TV it might not be able to handle the sound format that you are sending to it. I had to add an "Audio Extractor" to be able to send 2 channel audio over optical.

Does this transmit audio too?
Larry W

BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will have audio with it.
But, if you are going direct to a TV, you might have the same problem as me. My TV (older model) couldn't play the audio format that I was sending. So, I had to buy an "Audio Extractor" to be able to send 2 channel audio over an optical cable (with an HDMI pass through).
I used 2 of these and they work great.

BEST ANSWER: We installed it as a feed to a security monitor behind the bar (no audio needed). We used Cat5e and it's flawless. I don't think there's much difference between the two cables, and any other solution will have the same requirements. So this is a very cost effective way to give it a shot

Can the cat 6 cable run thru a switch?
Ron G
on May 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I just tested trying to run this through my switch and the switch connectivity lights don't show activity on the input or output side, and no data is going through to my screen. The specs say it's running the HDBaseT transmission medium, which probably doesn't have the necessary controller information to get the switch to send the signal to the right place. A similar product, Product # 16048, uses TCP/IP and has a simple description in the user manual for splitting the signal using a switch.

If I’m only interested on sending picture to another room
Do I need to have the immediate display connected?
Just want to have picture at another room period
So would that affect the performance?

Having an issue with these, they go from a computer to a TV,
When we reboot the computer we get no video until we go behind the TV and unplug the HDMI then plug it back in.
Is there a fix?

BEST ANSWER: It's a Windows issue. It would do the same thing with a normal HDMI cable. Your PC doesn't see TVs the same way as monitors. Using a monitor as a TV works better than using a TV as a monitor.
I would expect it to work if the TV is connected and turned on before and during the reboot.
For whatever reason, your pc will probably not notice if you turn the TV on like it does when you plug the HDMI cable in. I assume it has to do with the small amount of standby power for the TV when it is "off".
You should be able to right-click on the desktop and go into display settings, then tell it to detect displays. If the TV is on and connected it should connect.
If the TV gets turned off or goes into standby it gets dropped as a monitor and anything that was displayed on it will hopefully get pushed to the main monitor.

Keep away from electrical (power supplies, surge suppressors, power cords, etc.). This HDMI extender has been working very well for our school but when the transmitter/receiver is too close to an electrical source I believe the plastic casing can't shield it from the interference and we get constant dropouts and flickering. Seems keeping it 6+ inches away fixed the problems. Can someone at Monoprice confirm this issue and solution?

Ticks all the boxes!
Currently running 1080p over 120 feet (36 meters) with Cat5e and it works flawlessly. It's really small and light, easy to mount behind a TV with the included adhesive back velcro. The PoC and the HDMI loop out take it from 4 stars to a solid 5. Great balun for the price!!!

The product Big Cable doesn?t want you to know about.
For home television use, I was happy to discover that this worked better than advertised. It worked over about 40-50ft of existing Cat 5E cable, so no need to upgrade to Cat 6. Even the remote works perfect. The pass-thru HDMI on the transmitter is fantastic, eliminating the need for a splitter on the sending end. Screw you Big Cable!

Reliable and inexpensive
These replaced a set that were powered only at one end, and a a greeat upgrade in reliability when a long cable is used.

Easy to connect, simply works
commercial installation in 2 conference rooms.
Dedicated Cat6 lines from tables to walls in conduit, in the floor to behind the displays on the wall.
Paired with a 4X2 matrix switch, easy and FAR less expensive that a full Crestron install!

Blackbird 24181 is a device that performs flawlessly. Recommend to everyone interested in incorporating hdBaseT technology in the home.
setup was a breeze. Initial glitches like unstable picture on both local and remote displays, temporary audio loss, all cleared up within a couple of minutes. The PoC, IR and auto EDID functionalities work as envisaged. The reset button that reboots the transmitter is a bonus. Enjoying every minute of it...

Great little boxes
This extender worked great for moving my projector onto a shelf at the back of the room without running an unsightly cable across the floor.
One caveat is that it requires a single unbroken straight-through cable to function properly. I tried using keystone jacks and patch cables at either end of my run at first and had nothing but trouble. Admittedly, this may be more to do with how the signal is transmitted over the Cat6 cable, but something to keep in mind during installation.

Works flawlessly
This unit is doing exactly what I need it to do. It replaced a wireless unit that didn't always connect to my TV. I would often have to restart it to get a signal. This unit works flawlessly to connect every time through CAT6 cable. Very happy with it.
