Is there a version where the USB C port is on the other side? The reason being that with most laptops have the USB C on the left side; however, if it is plugged in as shown, that means the Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, and USB have to be plugged in from the front instead of the rear.

BEST ANSWER: Just flip the dock upside down, peel the sticker off carefully and stick to the far end plastic if you need it for reference (or legal reasons like a mattress tag :)
OR
I would have the dock behind the laptop with all the ports facing away from your laptop and sneak the USB-c around the corner. that would somewhat block the extra USB-c port

That is an unfortunate design flaw of this model. I've attached another model of USB-C Dock below. This other model is, in my opinion far superior to the one you're asking about (I've tried both), assuming you don't need portability. In this case, the USB-C cable is on the right instead of the left like you're asking for.

BEST ANSWER: The USB-C to HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0, RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet and USB-C Female Travel Dock does not require power to function, this dock can be bus powered. You do have the option to utilize the USB-C female port for USB-C data and/or USB-C power up to 60 watts

BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not, but you need to take into consideration the amount of bandwidth you will be using. A standard USB 3.0 is 5 Gb. If you are plugging this into a Thunderbird 3 port then it will allow for 40 Gb.

Do you have to choose between video (either HDMI or VGA) and ethernet? Can you use ethernet, USB 3.0 female, and HDMI all at the same time?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
You can use one HDMI or VGA connection at a time but the Ethernet, video, and USB 3.0 port can be used simultaneously.

Handy tool for connections on the road
This device has made connections simple when on the road with my MacBook Pro that has only USB-C connections. It has USB-3, VGA, HDMI and wired internet, all available using only a single USB-C connector on the Mac. (Only one monitor can be used). No longer need multiple connectors while away from the office.

Everything seems to work as expected.
I've only had the unit for a couple weeks. So far everything has worked without any effort.

cool but limited functionality and died after 1 year
Only 1 USB 3.0 port. Fairly heavy for the size. Died within after a few months of regular use - of course, after the 1 year warranty ended. I've not had any luck with Monoprice USB-C hubs/docks - all have had issues - this one included.

Space saver.
I use it for Ethernet and a backup drive, and power my MacBook through it. I'm only using one of my four ports on the computer.

Proper Use?
Not sure why I could not use 2 external monitors at the same time. I have another plugable USB 3 docking station that works with the same computer. Am I not using this properly?

One port adapter to rule them all for business travel.
Good light weight and compact form factor for business travel. I may never need VGA again, but I'm covered for when I need HDMI and the occasional times when Ethernet is handy. The USB 3.0 port is also handy for syncing devices.

Works great with XPS 13 laptop
I'd really like to give this product 4.5/5 stars, but there's no option for that, the USB-C connection to my laptop occasionally comes loose and I lose the connection. I feel like I physically have to jam it in there more than any other peripheral I've ever used. However, I'm not sure if that is due to my laptop port or the product. The connection on the product looks well made; a single piece of metal with no visible seams. I have not tried the HDMI or the female USB-C ports yet.
I've been able to simultaneously run ethernet, a USB-mouse, and a VGA external display just fine with this dock. When my laptop sleeps, hibernates, or restarts, it immediately picks up the connection just fine. I've only been using the dock for about 2 days but will update if anything changes.
On the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Hardware" taskbar icon this product shows up as two items: USB Root Hub and EFM8 HID AP. I haven't messed around with them but thought that was worth noting.
