I can't seem to find the IP Address for controlling via a web browser. I've searched my routers logs/connections, and nothing. Is there a default IP address or a way to see what IP address the device is using?
    Charles P on Jul 22, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: Hello,

The default IP is Connect both the matrix and the computer to a network switch or router and then have the PM connect directly to the IP address. It is not recommended to connect the PC directly to the matrix as the matrix functions as a host just like a computer would.

We will have a guide uploaded to the product page shortly.

What are the commands to control by rs232?
Where is the software for this device downloaded?
    A shopper on Aug 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Control software is built into the device, it can be found at
RS232 codes will be available on the product page shortly, or contact tech@monoprice.com for a direct copy.
Can't access the web gui by using, I can ping the address but when I attempt to access with a web browser I get refused to connect. error?
    A shopper on Apr 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don't think there is a built in web server, you can open a telnet session and control the unit over IP that way.
Can you use a single cat5e as well?
    Christopher L on Jul 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. You can use a Cat5e cable as well. We would highly recommend the use of Cat6 cables for a more reliable signal.
Okay, so you supply one remote to change the matrix itself, the customer must obtain the remote for the device selected on the matrix(blue ray player), is there a way to change the device you require at the television, so to select a different input at the tv?
    New User U on Jul 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Each receiver has a IR in which is used to send IR signals to both the matrix and the input you are connecting to - instead of buying multiple remotes, I have Logitech Harmony's in each room which control the inputs and the Matrix. the Matrix is in the Harmony database for easy installation
Is the telnet or rs232 protocol published anywhere?
    A shopper on Aug 23, 2017
I can't access the web interface at I can ping the IP address but the browser just has a 'connection refused' error. Is there any more info on this?

Does this support audio over hdmi also?
    Aaron R on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yeap - passes along with video
Is there any audio/video sync issues or delay over the CAT cable extenders and/or the HDMI outputs? Are these extenders point to point or can they be plugged into a switch and accessed over a network?
    A shopper on Mar 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: With regards any sync issues, we have not noticed any problems. As for your second question, the devices are only point-point, you can't use then on a network switch over a network - the data on the Cat5/6 cables is not ethernet.
    Hope this helps
If I connect 4 different input devices and 4 different output output devices. Can I play these combinations ?
    1. Input 1 on Output 1 & 2; Input 2 on Output 3 & 4
    2. Input 1 on Output 1; Input 2 on Output 2; Input 3 on Output 3; Input 4 on Output 4
    3. Input 1 on all 4 outputs
    New User U on Oct 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the combinations you list are all possible. We have just installed this device and it works very well.

In fact, as it's a matix switcher, it allows you to have any combination you require.
If I have both the Ethernet and HDMI Out connected on a single output, what happens? Does the Matrix prefer the HDMI or Ethernet?
    Craig S on Aug 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It will switch both. Let's say you have an input in port 1, and you have a tv hooked up to the HDMI output and
the extender hook up also to a 2nd tv, then you will receive the same signal on both tv's.
This says 4K in the title but the specs has max resolution of 1080. Which is it?
    Nigel M on Jul 29, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: Hi Nigel,

The extender portion of this matrix is limited to 1080p video resolution. The HDMI outputs for this device are 4K compatible. So the unit is fully 4K compliant. If you are looking for a Matrix that will extend 4K video over an ethernet cable, we would recommend a unit like PID 27841. Regards,
For each output, can I plug in a local TV into HDMI, and a remote TV with extender into UTP, then show the same image on both TVs at the same time?
    Allan B on Jun 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I have local monitors plugged into the HDMI 1 and 2 and remote monitors into the extenders (1 to 4) approximately 100ft away and it works great
What will happen if Input 1 on all 4 outputs with different resolutions? For example: 3 tvs are 1080p and 1 tv is only 720p. Will all 4 tvs downgrade to the lowest resolution: 720p or will 3 tvs still show 1080p?
    Tuan D on Apr 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you have to set the EDID dip switches to the lowest resolution of the connected TVs.
Are there rack ears available for this unit?
    Frank L on Mar 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Manual says includes mounting brackets
What is the IR frequency range for this? I've had issues with Bell satellite receivers in the past with monoprice IR. Mostly just newer Bell models
    Trevor G on Feb 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I know Dishnetwork reciever (which are almost the same as Bell) are dual band i monoprice IR dont support dual band IR correctly, but not sure if they correct this issue on this model. i will check and will posted soon
Does this have an optical audio Input cable?
    A shopper on Dec 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No I don't believe so. HDMI onlyEnter
Can I take a single input to all outputs on this device?
    A shopper on Jul 5, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: Yes you can.
Is it possible to have more than one remote control for this product?
    A shopper on Jun 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The unit would only come with one remote control for the Matrix. For your other devices connected to the unit, you can use multiple remote controls from your devices. We would not carry the remote control separate from the unit. I hope this helps.
Having trouble getting the unit to power on, any special way to do that? Yes the switch is on in the back.
    A shopper on Jul 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: nothing special to have it power on... you likely have a dud.
Great device, but I wish that it didn't have to squeak every time I changed the outputs. I would rather it were silent. I noticed that it is possible to turn off the sound through RS-232, but is there a way to turn it off via TELNET? I would rather not have to physically rip out the sound-making device inside the unit if I could help it!
    Roger Fortune M on Jul 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We bought several of the units for our conference rooms and ran into the same issue. I decided to open the unit and found that running a nylon screw into the speaker opening took care of the annoying sound. Note just happened to work out as a volume control. The tighter you make it the less noise it makes. Worked out great for our application.
Can I connect the receivers via a network switch?
    A shopper on May 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, this would be a good way to fry either the receiver or your switch, or both. These are intended to be directly connected via a Cat6 cable connection.
Is there a web server or not? Manuals and questions are very contradictory. I can ping the device but cannot access it in a browser.
    Jackson G on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I had the same issue. The tech told me the software to access the configurations is stored on the device, but I could never get the software from the device. I eventually gave up and set the parameters I needed via RS232.
Is there any audio/video sync issues or delay over the CAT cable extenders and/or the HDMI outputs? Are these extenders point to point or can they be plugged into a switch and accessed over a network?
    Steve M on Mar 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I installed this system last week to send a video signal to (2) projectors & (1) TV roughly 125ft from the matrix. The receivers are POE, which makes them dependent on receiving their power from from the transmitter. I did not witness any latency, but you must make sure that you are running CAT6 and not CAT5E.

There is a dip switch bank on the back for setting the minimum resolution accepted by your device. Despite the instructions being pretty confusing and useless, the system is pretty simple to configure.

For this price point, I doubt these receivers have the capacity to be network configurable if you were to attach them to a POE switch and look for a mac or ip address on your dhcp server.

Overall I am satisfied with the purchase and happy that I don't have individual power supplies to worry about failing.
So the remotes you would use from the televisions in away from the matrix, where do I purchase them? How long are the ir sensor leads?

I need to transition from SD signal over VGA to HDMI. We will be all HDMI over the next year, but was wondering if anyone is using this box for HDMI to TV/projectors with SD signal? I will have a converter from VGA to HDMI or it may be SD-SDI to hdmi.

I have been through 4 8151's which just don't last, as well as a much more expensive extender and none work as well as this one. I do have a ten year old Sony KDL-40W3000 TV whose EDID seems to give all of there matrix extenders fits, including this one. I tried ll the appropriate EDID switch settings and still got no picture until I added back a ConnectPro EDID emulator. With the EDID emulator between the TV and this matrix/extender (using an HDMI cable) everything works perfectly. Both are set to 1080p with 2-channel audio, the lowest common denominator. I have that one local TV and two remote TVs, a TiVo, Blu-Ray player and a Roku box all connected and working together. The blue input numbers are a bit bright in a darkened media room and I don't like the chirp sound when switching inputs, but those are very minor. Some Light Dims will take care of the bright digits if they bother me too much. Overall I love it and sure hope it lasts linger than those 8151's.

The unit is easy to install, a snap to set up, produces perfect images on both local and remote TVs. It was the exact product for my configuration and replaced a slew of HDMI splitters and extenders. Thanks, Monoprice!

Love it! Like to have control of every single tv. Only thing I would change is remove the sound it makes when you change the input.

    Don't lose the remote
Matrix works pretty good. Not replacement parts available. lose the remote and you need to buy another entire matrix to replace the remote. Support/sales is unable to replace the remote (not asking for a freebie either). Only gave it 2 stars as it does work, just Monoprice is malequiped to support the product in the end

    Not 4K
Why do you call it 4K when it’s max output is only 1080p?

    Worship Center enhancement.
Got this unit to distribute the signals from a computer running an announcement reel powerpoint and a video camera during worship service. It flawlessly distributes the signal to a pair of big screen tvs in the welcome center and will soon be distributing a third signal to the childcare center (so volunteers can see the service in progress) and to the fellowship hall as a service and event overflow. Switching the source and output is pretty easy and works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier with it. Great price as well.

    Works perfect so far
Replaced 2 different types of extenders with this unit. Both other extenders had different issues and reliability. I put the main unit in my rack and popped 2 receivers on the tv on my deck and in the garage, turned them on and there was the picture. No artifiacts, no lag, just a solid picture. I am running a 720p and 1080p(in I) tv and no edid issues. I haven’t actually tried the matrix element yet as I was just looking to get a good reliable set up finally and this gives me an option for the future. Best part of this is the POE! Really simplified the and cleaned up the install.
