I have a verizon set top with coax connection to the tv. however the tv that I have is HDMI only and require an adaptor. will this adaptor work correctly ?

BEST ANSWER: No! Your set top box is RF out, this device needs SDI in, which is of a whole other realm (professional broadcast). You are saying your TV is a monitor and it doesn't have a tuner or RF input? Is your Verizon box rented and or part of a paid service? Hit up Verizon for a set top box with HDMI out . If trying to get an over the air (free tv) signal into a monitor, tuners with HDMI out are under $50.00. iView is one brand and most likely some here on Monoprice's site if you do the correct search.

So it will not. This is for HD-SDI to HDMI. If your box only has coax (that seems odd) they should replace it with a box with HDMI. Double check for a connecter like the the one labeled HDMI OUT on this box.

No, This box is only for SDI inputs. You have a digital cable signal with an F connector. You need to connect that to your antenna input or a cable box that works with the signal your cable company uses.

This will not work with the Verizon box. the coax connector out of the set top box is probably an RF connection. This takes an SDI (Serial Digital Interface).

What is the difference between the Monoprice Blackbird SDI to HDMI converter (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=21829) and the Monoprice SDI to HDMI 4k 6G product (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=30444)?

They are similarly priced and seem to do the same thing.

The 4k 6G will handle more data as long as you have the right cabling connected to it.

How does this unit dissipate heat? If there is a fan does it create any noise?

BEST ANSWER: These units work well but do get hot. I have not noticed any fans in the units so they are silent but again they do get hot.
