Can I use any remote with the IR feature?
    Jacob E on Jul 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Understand that there are several different IR features. 1) the device itself can be controlled via is remote. it receives these commands via an IR Receiver on a cable that plugs into "IR Eye" 3.5 port on the matrix. It comes with that IR receiver. 2) It can pass IR signals from the TV location back to the matrix location. For this you need to plug in an IR receiver into the remote HDBaseT device's IR In port and an IR emitter into the IR out port on the matrix. 3) It can pass IR signals from the matrix location to the remote TV. Tor this you need to connect a separate IR receiver and emitter to the opposite ports ("in" on the matrix and "out" on the remote HDBaseT device). Each of the HDBaseT connections have 4 IR ports -- two to enable passing IR from the remote TV and two to enable passing IR to the remote TV. It does not come with these IR receivers and emitters.

In general, the IR passing features will pass the signal of any remote. It depends on the carrier frequency of the particular remote but I think that is pretty standardized so it generally works.

The IR control feature works well with learning remotes. To use the included remote, you press multiple keys for each operation (like input 1 key -> output 2 key -> enter key) but it only sends a IR command when you press "enter". So you end up with one IR command that you can learn into a particular learning remote's key or function.
Is this item rack mountable? If so does it come with brackets for a 19inch rack?
    Barry H on Jul 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Barry, PID 21818 hasn't been tapped for mounting. the compact design makes it difficult to mount onto a 19" rack without the use of a large mounting bracket. thank you for asking.
