Is this podium chargeable? We need a cordless podium/av system for an outdoor event.

BEST ANSWER: No, the lectern must be connected to an external power source. Also, it’s not intended for outdoor use. However, with an extended cord and protection from the elements it will probably work OK but repeated exposure will likely lead to premature failure.

No, this Podium is not chargeable. It must be plugged into a wall. I suggest using a Hisonic HS120B for this, if you are able to.

can you add casters to it?
A shopper
on May 18, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I personally dropped it on top of a "universal adjustable mobile base for freezers, washers, and dryers" which already has casters mounted to it ... and the best part is the corners on this platform are rounded to the same exact radius as the podium ... it's a perfect fit ... going this route you don't have to drill through the podium base at all

I don’t think so. But I have thought about building something out of wood with casters that I could sit it in. I believe if I paint it black to match the lectern it should look ok. And you may be able to drill holes in the base and add casters. But I would not.

Is the included microphone and light removable / replaceable? Thanks

BEST ANSWER: I used the ones that were included, but it's totally removable and connects via a standard 3 pin connector, so I don't see why you couldn't swap them out.

If you mean can you add more speakers to this, yes it can. It can also connect to the pre-out (the mic plug) to send sound to your auditorium system. You may need to clarify your question.

I'm looking for a lectern just like this that I can transport easily to various conferences and events so it wouldn't just be permanently installed anywhere. Is it durable enough for this type of use? How much does it weigh? What is the material it's mainly constructed with (Wood, metal, plastic)? Does it come assembled?

BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interest in our powered lectern. This lectern can be used as a portable unit. 65 lbs is not exactly light but it is well made. All parts are metal except for the top which is wood. It does need to be assembled. A customer in the reviews said it only took 15 minutes.

Yes, there is a wireless receiver that gets installed below the top and connected to the amp. I remember seeing something about it in the papers that came with the unit, but can't remember the details. Sorry! Perhaps the manufacturer can tell you what you need.

Can you tell me the location of the balanced XLR output? Is it at the base of the unit? Also, just to be sure, can I output the signal from that output to my current 70v system? I assume I would not use phantom power as I imagine that is supplied by the lectern?
Eleana K
on Jul 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The XLR output is about halfway down the post. You should be able to output the signal to your 70v system so long your system has the correct inputs. And you are correct you would not need to use phantom power.

We are trying to find a replacement microphone but the included mic is not a standard XLR size. Any recommendations on how to find the same mic or comparable? We ordered in Jan 2020 and the mic connection is a female mini XLR (smaller than normal XLR) connection. Contacted Monoprice support but no response.

Microphone Buzzes
The podium provided clean sound with plenty of gain when using the dynamic mic #2 input (connected to a Shure SM58) and the Aux 1 input (connected to any line level signal). Also the pre-amp output worked as advertised. I did not test the mic #3 input which is supposed to drive a condenser mic. It had a Amphenol MC3M connector that didn?t match anything available to me. However, mic #1 which comes with the podium had a noticeable buzz when the volume was turned up about 1/2 way. Monoprice sent a replacement at their expense, but it had the same problem. To Monoprice?s credit they offered to send me third podium, but by that point I concluded the mic buzz was not a one off problem.
Therefore, I elected to keep the podium and installed a gooseneck to hold a Shure SM57 mic. (The same mic used by the President for what it is worth.) To connection the SM57 I had to rewire the mic/light connector. For what it is worth pin 8 is positive, pin 7 is negative, and pin 1 is ground to feed the more sensitive M1B mic input. Note that soldering is required.
Hopefully, the mic buzz is a temporary production problem and will be fixed in future models.

Work perfectly for our application
Having had to adapt our Rotary and Kiwanis meeting to a hybrid format, we needed to change the speaker position to a fixed location so that the Meeting Owls we use to broadcast the meetings could reliably focus on the speaker. This fit the bill perfectly. We added some castors from Amazon to make it roll around. Castors need to be M8x1.25 and studs no longer than about 30mm to work.

Lectern
Speaker cover bent. Mic connector stripped. Putting it together wasn?t easy. Lining up screw holes on base was the hardest part once I got that done the rest was not that hard. At first I couldn?t get the mic to work so I called support and they didn?t try to trouble shoot it. They just sent a return shipping label. After I had it assembled I had an epidural and back is worse now. I can just barely get around. So I asked about parts to replace the bad parts but was told to return the whole unit. I am physically unable to do that at this time. Also mic cause loud feedback with volume turned up less than a quarter turn.
