What is the benifit of using cat6 over 5?
A shopper
on Jan 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Cat6 is a higher quality cable the Cat5 and in this cause allows you to go further distances and not lose video quality if needed. I used cat5 in my install with this equipment and was fine at 70ft. Also watch for cable kinks or knots. Those will cause video lose.

Cat5 simply will not carry the signal...there is just too much of a voltage drop with cat5....don’t cut corners, run the Cat6!

Just a little better speed with the cat 6 than the cat 5.

Monoprice Blackbird 4K Mini 1x4 HDMI Splitter
BEST ANSWER: As long as your resolutions are supported by the splitter and extenders you should be fine. I have used this to split a signal off of my ATEM switcher and send them to numerous outputs, sometimes using the single version of the Blackbird extenders.

Can I run the "HDMI out" of a cable box to the input of the extender and then split the HDMI output to an array of TVs?
A shopper
on May 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can. The extensions are via Cat6 or Cat5 cables, with standard termination either 568A or 568B. These connect to the receivers that come with the extender kit. These receivers have the hdmi out that will connect to your TVs that are distributed.

Can I use this to split the signal(From the PC to the splitter) then to a PC monitor(Using HMDI Output) and output to 5 other TV's (Using 5 Cat5e/6 outputs)? I need to be able to run media software on the PC monitor and have my output go to the 5 other TV's independently.

BEST ANSWER: Hello shopper: I have two of the previous version HDMI splitters 1x8 (8160) and 1x4 (8159), but operating principles are the same. I think you are describing a very common situation: It sounds like you need a dual display setup. (Google "setting up dual displays on your computer".) This permits your primary display to control the presentation software and the second display to show the output from the presentation software. (It's common for presentation software to allow it's output to be sent to a second display.) By sending this second display output to the HDMI splitter input, your presentation software output is split 8 ways. So, with your primary display giving you presentation software control, and using one of the splitter outputs to feed another monitor right next to it, you can see exactly what you are sending to the other 7 monitors. I hope I have interpreted your question correctly...

Dear Shopper,
I purchased 3 of these 1X8 splitters and and they work great.
If you send HDMI out of the computer to HDMI in on the Blackbird, you then can send Cat6 cables out to 8 different monitors, and up to 165 feet away from the blackbird. At the end of the Cat6, Blackbird supplies 8 separate receivers that take the Cat6 as an input and HDMI as the output to the monitor. Whatever you input at the other end comes out at the receiver end. HD video looks great with no signal loss. This is a big improvement over the F connector composite cable used in the past.
I hope this helps.

can i connect different resolution tv's?? can it support 720, 1080 and 4k??
Luis V
on May 21, 2018
BEST ANSWER: According to the EDID section of the user manual, the splitter sends a single resolution out to all connected displays (including the local HDMI loop output). If you use a mix of 720p, 1080p, and 4K displays, they will all operate at 720p. If you want to send 4K to any display (using only this splitter), then every display must be a 4K display. (FWIW, this is consistent with how HDMI splitters generally work.)
One way you could incorporate a lower-resolution display—but still send 4K to other displays—would be to put a 4K-capable scaler between the splitter and that display. The scaler would take the 4K output from the splitter and convert it down to a compatible resolution. (Based on its description, Monoprice's item # 30460 looks like it would work for this task.)

I have this 1x8 blackbird. I use it to distribute AV from my media equipment to various TVs though out the house. It has one output for IR distribution at the transmitter, but I need this to control about 6 components (cable box, receiver, PS4, Apple TV, etc). I tried using a powered Niles IR distributer (one in, 8 out) but this didn't work. Does anyone have a solution?
