I would think so, as long as they can all handle the same resolution. Your computer would see this as one monitor. This is an educated guess since I haven't tried this.

Will this work if I plug in a HDMI to VGA adapter?
New User U
on Nov 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Short answer; I don't know / and depends on what kind of adapter?
But generally speaking, VGA is analog, and so you would be better off with a digital adapter, like a DVI (if you are going to a Computer Monitor?) This splitter is actually pretty simple & basic, so whatever you are doing with these digital HDMI signals (video + audio) should work the same as without this spiltter.
If you VGA Adapter (?) is smart enough to work from HDMI normally, then yes it should also work thru this splitter too.

You would probably not want to transmit standard definition signal in the first place. The "adapter" would need to upgrade/convert to digital before going to this unit.

HDMI to VGA would have to be an active adapter, but it should work, all this does is split the HDMI signal, it will be up to the adapter to convert it to analog VGA.

Can I use a cat5 balun from the cable box to this splitter?
Rayland H
on Jan 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have 3 other Monoprice splitters in use with Ethernet HDMI extenders. This model I haven't tried with an extender. I would expect that it will work. All of my extenders have CAT6 cables, the longest is 50 feet to carry a signal from my downstairs cable box to the second TV in my living room. Our cable company only has one remote frequency so two cable boxes cannot be in the same room and have both operated by remote.

I've used my splitter in conjunction with an HDMI Extender system over Cat 6 for signal for 2 data/lcd projectors and it works great. I think the distance was alittle over 125' feet. (Cat 6 length) HDMI cables I think were about 30 feet to the projectors. Ray in AZ

Will this work on TVs with less resolution that 1080p such as 720?
Matt S
on Mar 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. If you have fewer than four devices, you want to ensure that you have output device number one hooked up because I believe it routes the EDID calls to that device based on the fact that it must be plugged in before the output device can sense what resolutions are possible. This device will not handle 4K at 60Hz or any other advanced HDMI 2.0 stuff like HDR. But it works fine for 1080p60, 720p60, and other "normal" high definition formats.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. HDCP 1.4 will work for 4K copyrighted media. However, if your source device/ TV require the updated HDCP 2.2 for 4K media then HDCP 1.4 would not work to display 4K content. I would recommend verifying if your source and display will still support 4K with HDCP 1.4. I hope this helps.

does this HDMI switch support audio to all channel same time?
A shopper
on Mar 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This unit would be an HDMI splitter. Which will send one video/audio signal via HDMI to 4 TV's via HDMI.
An HDMI switch will allow you to connect multiple devices such as a bluray player, cable box and gaming console to one HDMI port on the TV. You would only be able to use one at a time though.
Regardless of using a switch or splitter HDMI will carry the video and audio. So in a splitter, it will send audio and video at the same time to all the ports. I hope this helps.

My IR extenders (monoprice) do not work with this splitter. The previous 1x4 splitter I purchased from monoprice worked fine. Any recommendations?

Monoprice Blackbird 4K Mini 1x4 HDMI Splitter

Monoprice IR Extender Over HDMI
BEST ANSWER: I'm using the Monoprice model # " MP-SP08" 1 x 2 port Mini HDMI Splitter without any problems to operate a Spectrum DVR. maybe you can piggyback them to get more ports. The extender works perfectly over a HDMI 25' cable to the splitter. Good Luck!

Any know issues with connecting a PC or Laptop? Used this device for years with a cable box or Roku, I get a flashing input light when I try and connect a laptop. Laptop will successfully connect to each input at a time but not through the splitter .

Is this useful for extending a display on 3 monitors with hdmi from a laptop on a dock with an hdmi output?

Does this support Hdmi arc (audio return channel)? I want to take the HDMI arc output from my home theater receiver and split it so that one of the outputs goes to an HDMI CAT5 extender and the other out output goes back to the TV's HDMI ARC input. Will that work? Many thanks!

I'd like to use a USB 5v power adapter. What are the plug dimensions and power requirements?

In your description you say:
"Note also that only one Active HDMI cable should be present in any single cable run, even if using a switch, splitter, or matrix. Connecting multiple active HDMI cables in series will cause them to fail to reliably transmit the video signal because each is trying to do the same thing."
Does that mean I would not want to use your "Blackbird 4K Mini 1x4 HDMI Splitter" with a standard non-active HDMI cable input and output to 4 of these active cables? Wouldn't that be using them in parallel not series?
thanks for any clarification,

This splitter worked well between 2 TV's (1 was 4k) and the cables were longer than average 3 & 10 meters

Lack of instructions for set up of "digital" audio this device claims to support.
Set up was annoying and the instructions were zero help. I wanted the splitter to allow my Verizon Fios Mini to send (via HDMI) video to a projector and audio (via a separate HDMI) to a receiver. The geniuses who made the Verizon Fios Mini box did not include a TosLink or Digital Coax output to send audio to a receiver. Go figure! Anyway, connecting the Verizon Fios Mini to the "In" of the splitter and connecting the receiver and projector to the splitter would not allow a "digital" audio signal (Dolby Digital/dts) to pass through to the receiver. After much thought, I figured out I needed to run the Verizon Fios Mini signal via HDMI to the "In" of my receiver (sending the digital audio directly into the receiver) then run an HDMI from the "out" of the receiver to the "In" of the splitter and lastly connecting the projector's HDMI to the splitter for the video. Once I figured this out, the splitter does the job nicely. However, the instructions should have been more discriptive as there is absolutely no mention of how to connect the splitter to a receiver for "digital" sound that this device claims to support.

Sort of works
Devices coming off the splitter do not retain all the functionality the have off the original connection, but if your need is basic, like splitting a video feed, it works fine.

Excellent : mirrors HDMI video/audio to multiple sources
The 18785"Monoprice Blackbird 4K Mini 1x4 HDMI Splitter" is the 3rd HDMI splitter i've tried (second one from monoprice) and this works perfect.
I previously tried the 2522 HDMI Male to 2x HDMI Female which did not work and another brand which I sent back also.
The Blackbird 4K mini does require power but will duplicate both video / audio over HDMI to multiple TVs and allows a single TV to be turned off while the other TV still gets HDMI video/audio. I mention this the lower price 2522 required both TVs to be on constantly for either to see the video.
The Blackbird 4K mini I tried with 2 TVs only and it takes the input (Satellite in my case) and outputs it to both TVs without issues. Cost in CDN including shipping was $33 so more expensive than some other adapters but compared to Apple products (adapters) this is a bargain.
I have not tried splitting the HDMI from a Macbook. Splitting the HDMI from satellite works fine as does splitting HDMI output from a PC running Windows 10.
While HDMI can communicate in both directions I did not require this functionality and did not test for it. I only wanted down stream video / audio. Some devices over HDMI will shut off the source (Apple TV box, etc) when the TV is shut off. I did not test for this.
I would recommend purchasing this monoprice Blackbird 4K Mini 1x4 HDMI Splitter for anyone wanting to split a single input signal into 2 or more outputs to 2 or more different TVs, etc..

It works!
We have multiple TVs in our taproom, and occasionally we want to send one signal to 3 or 4 of them. I have been through three other splitters, which either worked for a while and then died (days or weeks), or would simply not work with certain input devices at all. This one works with everything we've thrown at it so far. I do follow the connection and power-up sequence as laid out in the manual.

Works with Amazon fire stick
Works great, exactly what I needed it to do. Plugged a Amazon fire stick into and ran 4 TVs in different rooms.
