BEST ANSWER: NO! You cannot connect this amplifiers inputs to your speaker outputs. You will damage this and your amp. Your receiver should have a line out. You will need to check with your receiver users manual to see if volume changes will effect the line out or how to make that happen.

Speaker outputs on your receiver are “speaker level” and amplified. If your receiver has “line level” RCA outputs, use those. If not, and you must use speaker level signal you’ll need a speaker to line level adapter to reduce the voltage level. I’ve had very good results using a PAC SNI-31 in several different applications.

Not a good idea. Speaker outputs are designed for an 8ohm load, very different from the input. Might kind of work but not well. You might have a line output or an output for a recorder on your receiver. That would work but may not have volume control.

Yes you can but the speaker out is already amplified so the signal will get clipped probably as you bump up the volume on this amp. This is meant for connecting the pre-outs from your receiver (if it has one) or the sub pre-out. hope this helps

Read the manual carefully. I assume you need a 2-channel (stereo) amp for channels 6 & 7. This is a 2-channel amp and will work. However, a more conventional amp may be easier to place on a shelf.

Yes the Yamaha receiver should have line level outputs to connect this amp for the two additional channels. Also if the receiver has a 12 volt trigger you can use it to turn on the amp.

Question is really kind of broad; you should get an amp with the number of outputs needed to power the number of speakers you want. 7.1 is a function of the receiver not the amp.

1 subs and 4 speakers is the desired load for a 200w unity, running 2 subs and 8-10 speakers is an ask for the 200w. However, if you are going to do it a single 450w unity would be better or daisy chaining 2 200w unity using RCA with 1 sub and 4 speakers off each amp. To each there own, but in short the single 200w might be able to do the job but, more amplification is better especially if you have a large distance between the amp and speakers.

I used two Sonos amps with mine. I did one sub and four satellite speakers. Not sure on the amp you have picked. I also put two outdoor speakers on the house. They are awesome. It’s sounds great. I will be ordering a couple more Satellite speakers just for back up if mine quits working. You won’t be disappointed the are great.

Could I use two of these, linked through the line-out, to power a pair of bi-amped speakers? I figure without a crossover, they would be sending the same signal to each of the speakers (L and R, Hi and Lo).

The short answer is that it depends. The long answer is that any amplifier can drive multiple speakers, but you have to watch the impedance load the amplifier sees. Lower impedance results in more power, but also more heat. If the amplifier isn't designed to run lower than rated impedance, it'll damage the amplifier eventually. The way you wire speakers also affects impedance, so you can take several 8 ohm speakers and still end up with an 8 ohm load - but if you connect those same speakers in a different way, you could end up with a 4 ohm load, or 2 ohm, or even 16 ohm or higher. If you are going to try and do this, you'll want to research connecting speakers in series and parallel, and how that changes the impedance of the group of speakers.

There are two sets of speaker posts, so two can be directly connected, though the amplifier is quite stable and capable of handling several speakers on its two channels in stereo, bridged mono, or even as two separate channels when wired appropriately with impedance matched. You can also use the linked impedance matching speaker selector if you are looking to use in a multi-room setup or don't want to try and match the impedances to the amplifier with multiple speakers and would also like easy volume control.

I would think about 16. This Is what I used, and thought it was a pretty tight fit. If you are wanting to use anything thicker, you are prob going to have to cut some strands away, or use a very thin banana type connection (not ur regular banana plug)

I used the 12AWG lamp cord style speaker wire on my setup, which is probably the fattest you can fit in there. It is really meant for your standard single copper strand speaker wire, but the spring clips accommodate the 12 gauge and smaller.

BEST ANSWER: If the Sonos has a 12V Trigger out then yes. If not you can put the Unity amp in Auto mode and it will turn on when it receives an audio signal and power off after about 5 min. with no signal present.

The audio line output from the Sonos Connect should be high enough to turn on the Monoprice Power Amplifier. I have not connected a Sonos to the amp, but I have connected the line out of a FiiO portable player to the Monoprice and the player has enough output to turn on the amp. I hope that helps ...

The biggest problem with tri-mode configurations is matching the sensitivity of the subwoofer with that of the main speakers, as there's no real way to adjust the output of the subwoofer in relation to the main speakers.

No. It doesn't have the extra connections for the bridged part. It's either a 2 channel amp, or a 1 channel amp - not both. The tri-mode thing started with car audio, but leads to all kinds of messy problems, especially for the crossover that you inevitably want for the subwoofer that's using the bridge setup. It's far better to simply run 2 amps - one stereo, and one bridged.

Hello, I would like to connect 8 speakers together with 2 subwoofers like the manual states. I was thinking of purchasing the Monoprice Unity 450 W Amplifier to push all 8 speakers and two subwoofers. Is this the best option or should i purchase two separate 200watt unity amplifiers for each unit? I would also like to run two additional speakers off my Yamaha amp so a total 10 speakers and two subwoofers. What do you recommend?

It’s not clear what your trying to do. Are you using the amp to add additional powered channels to an A/V receiver to set up an Atmos surround system or are these discrete speakers.
As far as driving subwoofers you need a purpose designed amp for low frequencies not a full range amp. Normally these are powered subwoofers or a special amp supplied with a LFE signal from the A/V receiver.

This is a question for someone familiar with the Sycamore system. The 450W amp is rated for 4-8 ohms so you have to be concerned with overdriving or under driving the amp with regard to the resistive load when you use more than 2 speakers. The amp only has connections for 2 speakers.

The amp is rated for a minimum of 4 ohms so, if your speakers are 8 ohms each, you could get two amps and drive two pairs with each one. Check the RMS rating of your speakers. This amp does have a line out so you can run two side by side to drive all of your speakers.

But you can't simply connect four speakers in parallel to each channel because that would present a 2 ohm (or less) load to the amp and possibly cause it to cook itself to death. The amp is rated for a minimum of 4 ohms so, if your speakers are 8 ohms each, you could get two amps and drive two pairs with each one. If your speakers are less than 8 ohms (6 ohms is common), then you'd need an amp for each pair (although the 100 watt version would probably be sufficient). I'm only driving a single pair of Dolby Atmos speakers with mine (because my receiver has 11 channels of processing but only 9 channels of amplification).

If you connect 2 of the speakers in series, then connect 2 of those series pairs in parallel, the amp will see the same impedance as a single speaker.

You can drive 4 - 8 ohm speakers and still maintain an 8 ohm impedance if you connect the speakers in the following manner: 2 sets of 2 speakers, connect each set in series, then connect the sets in parallel. The final resistance of the combination will still be 8 ohms. To simplify the setup, split the output of the amplifier in two, then use it to drive two speakers in series - ( SERIES = right positive amp -> speaker 1 positive -> speaker 1 negative -> speaker 2 positive -> speaker 2 negative -> right negative amp ). Honestly though, I would just buy a second amp.... running speakers in series creates quite a lot of feedback and can significantly increase the amount distortion.

Even though the best venting orientation is obviously horizontal, my personal experience is this amp doesn't get very warm at all, even with fairly high volume levels for an extended period of time, so I personally wouldn't worry too much about mounting it vertically on the wall. However, I don't think I'd be comfortable mounting it in a way that would block the vents. I hope that helps.

I don't think you'll have an issue. Mine is sitting vertically beside my main AVR which is a Pioneer Elite SC-95 9.2 channel receiver. It runs relatively cool -recall it's a Class-D Amp which runs cooler than a traditional Class A/B.

Yes the preamp and amp outputs are both active at the same time so you can add additional amplifiers and have them on the same zone. Note that the volume control only changes the amplified output so when you turn the volume up and down with the keypad or serial port it won't change the volume of the external amp

Thanks Randal... that is very relevant information! Essentially, I would have to set the external amp to the volume level I would most likely want the speakers to be at as I would not be able to adjust it from the keypad. Are their any possibilities to have the volume control from the keypads change the volume levels of external amps?
Page 3 of the user manual states the system's volume controls do in fact control the RCA preamp outputs.
On my current muti-zone amp i leaved the volume on the powered amp at max volume and adjust the volume using the preamp. Is that not the case with this unit?

Yes. The user manual shows a diagram on page 10 where a sub-woofer is connected to the pre-amp outputs and speakers are connected to the speaker output of the same zone, so both will work together.

I am always a fan of more power. You can always turn it down. I'd get 2 x 200W amps, bridge them mono, and adjust the volume to the appropriate level. Bigger amps turned down will run cooler with less distortion, and you are more likely to blow up a speaker by underpowering than overpowering.

If you buy a single RCA to double - yes. It has plenty of power to move the subs. I have a rack with four of these in the media closet and as long as you have good ventilation (I’m using 140mm computer fans) to keep them cool, you will be surprised what they can do...

BEST ANSWER: I don’t know specifically about the specs other than what is on the MP site, but I can tell you that I am very happy with it, it’s not over the top loud, but plenty loud for my needs in a medium sized room for two channel tower speakers, with a fairly low efficiency of only 85….higher efficiency speakers, would be louder….but amp is surprisingly very warm sounding and clean all the way to max output. Hope this helps….

The description does say RMS for 100w into 8 ohms. So that would be continuous not peak. I own two of the 200w and one 100w unity amplifiers and they are fantastic for the price.

If these specs are correct, I can power four(4) 8 ohm speakers off the two channels on the Unity 200-watt amp (4 ohm load), at 62.5 watts per speaker - which is 12.5 more watts per speaker than getting two(2) Unity 100-watt amps to power the same four speakers (50 watts @ 8 ohm load) while saving space in my rack - with the only draw back being the higher THD and perhaps higher heat from running the amp at 4 ohms? Am I thinking correctly?

If you run an amp at high power, especially if you run it for a long periods, you will certainly damage the amp long term... More power = more heat = more signal degradation / damage. In most instances, you are better off running two amps at a lower power for longer than a single amp at full power. Of course, this totally depends upon the volume that you wish to derive from the setup. If you're only going to operate at 10 percent power, no issues. However, if you're running at 90 - 100 percent, because you want lots of volume, you're probably better off running two amps at 50 percent.

Yes, it is a 2 channel amp and you can use it for 2 subwoofers. But typically with subwoofers, you can bridge the channels (switch at the back of the amp) and wire the 2 subs in parallel so both get the same signals at 8 ohms.

It’s my understanding that when you bridge the amp, it is 225 Watts in a single 8 ohm load and not 4 ohm. All of my speakers are 8 ohm so I’ve only had good results with this amp. I have actually purchased 14 of these amps that I use in my whole whole audio system with two of the 6 Zone each distribution, class d digital amps. I`n rooms with 6 ceiling speakers and 4 wall speakers and 2 SVS PBUltra 16 1500 watt rms or 5,800 watt peak each of the two subwoofers, I use the amps connected normally to the speakers. In rooms that will only fit two ceiling speakers, like two of my bathrooms and the laundry room, I use two of these amps and bridge each one to one speaker to get the most bang for my buck from those two ceiling speakers. The pair then gets a full 450 Watts as ass kickin’ class d, digital amp power. I really have enjoyed these amps and I would highly recommend them. I’m not exactly sure what your set up is or how you’re planning use them but for my situation, they are cool as can be! I guarantee that my whole home audio system puts 99% of the thumpin’ night clubs to shame. My two home theaters deliver more bang and better sound than any commercial movie theater that I’ve ever been to. I can re-watch movies that I’ve seen multiple times in the past because it’s like a whole new experience now. Unless I’ve watched it with this set up that I have now, I just consider it a brand new movie.

With the loop output, can I shut I connect 3 amps together to drive 6 speakers on the same input, and then shut on/off any amp in order to enable/disable any speaker pair, or will that kill the output to the other amps in the line?

What it sounds like your question is, is, "Do the line outs from the amp still pass-thru signal when the amp is off?"
I would suspect the answer is yet as it's probably just a Y-connect from the line-in to the line-out (and to the amp itself as the other end of the Y).

One failed after 3 years
I have two separate systems each using one of these units (200W) in bridge mode to drive an in-wall subwoofer. One unit stopped powering on after about 3 years. No power, no lamps, etc. I confirmed no shorts, speaker cabling around 8 ohms, and swapping the two units confirms that the one unit just died.
Unfortunately past the warranty and past the extra year of warranty from my AMEX. Not sure whether to replace it with another or look for something else.

Works perfectly as Dolby Atmos ceiling speaker
I've been using this power amp for about 3 weeks now. So far very pleased. Used it as a power amp for additional 2 ceiling speakers connected to an Anthem preamp using its 12 trigger function. Everything works perfectly and the sound quality and power delivery are as good as I expected for an amp of this type and price. We'll see how reliable this amp is over time.

Great amp for the price!
I'm enjoying this amp! I have this plugged in with RCA cables from a Pre-out on my Yamaha receiver to power some outdoor speakers. The speakers are the Monoprice Burial Sub and some of the larger Monoprice outdoor speakers Product # 13614 and Product # 31035. I don't have a trigger out from my receiver and just rely on the auto turn on. It takes about 5 seconds after I start playing music for the amp to wake up and start working, but it works well and the music sounds pretty decent! I'm thinking about buying another full set of speakers and another amp but it would probably be overkill for my deck of around 1800 sq ft. I've seen reviews complaining about a hum or loud thud when it turns off, but haven't experienced any of that. Works well!

Great amp for a distributed audio system
I used this to add an audio zone to an existing system. Rack mounting was easy, came with feet if I didn't want to mount it.. Sounds good, turns on automatically, works really well.
