Does it support load sensing? This could turn the z-wave switch on by toggling the switch on the appliance off and then on again. Please advise.

Anyone get this running with SmartThings? I get a "Unhandled: SecurityMessageEncapsulation" error, and wondering if I just got a lemon. Thanks.
    Kevin W on Feb 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I bought 2 of these and they were able to add to smartthings, but there is some hardware or device handler issue with these devices. The reports of them becoming unresponsive after a few hours or days appears to be relatively common. Happens to me with both of mine.
    Does this work with Wink/Wink2?
    Anthony R on Jun 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does work with Wink2 but not power monitoring.
How do you get this device to communicate power and energy info to a SmartThings Hub?
    A shopper on May 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Contacted SmatThings support. This is the SmatThings response: "Monoprice devices aren't officially compatible with SmartThings, and likely won't be able to be connected or work properly."
Buyer beware if you have a SmartThings system.
Does the energy monitoring feature report on both outlets or only the switched outlet?
    Alexander G on Feb 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Only on the switched outlet. I'm not away of any z-wave plugs that monitor power user on unswitched outlets
    Is this UL/CSA approved?
    A shopper on Mar 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This item would not be UL/CSA certified.

Does this device allow you to control the outlet power based on time? For example can one outlet be on for 12 hours then shut off and the other outlet turns on for 12 hours (so that both outlets are never on at the same time.)
    New User U on Oct 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi New User U., The short answer is no. This plug only has one outlet that can be controlled by z-wave. The other outlet is always on. There are other plugs out there in the work that give you two controllable outlets.
Does it switch on/off or only monitors power consumption?
    A shopper on Aug 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The device has a button that allows you to turn on/off one plug. That same plug can also be controlled remotely.
Has anyone used this with Veraplus? Mine gets added but control and energy usage aren't working. Any ideas?
    Carlos L on Apr 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we would not have information regarding function of Veraplus. I would recommend un-pairing the unit and re-pairing it to see if it will assist with the issue.

I previously rated the power meter poorly prematurely. The unit would not pair with my Vera Lite using User Interface version 5 (UI5). I upgraded my Vera Lite from UI5 to UI7 and the power meter now pairs with my Z-Wave network.
The power meter has two sockets. The first is a pass-thru and is not switchable and, unfortunately, power used with this socket is NOT monitored. The second socket has the Z-Wave symbol next to it and is controllable (On and Off only, no dimming) via Z-Wave commands. The second socket IS monitored for power and reportable via Z-Wave.
There is only one button on the device. Pressing it once will turn the Z-Wave socket on or off. The button is also used to pair and unpair with the Z-Wave network by pressing it 3 times within 2 seconds. The manual implies you should press the button once to unpair (exclude). My experience has been that 3 presses in under 2 seconds are needed to unpair the device.
The watts reported are within 5 watts of what a KIL-A-WATT power meter reports. After successfully getting my first power meter to work I ordered nine more power monitors.

    Poor range
The range with these was pretty poor compared to other zwave devices I have. Could not reach to my Vera Plus controller from 20+ feet through a couple walls. Tried multiple locations and positions. Other zwave devices communicating much longer distances.

SmartThings - Limited to OnOff Control
Setup successful with SmartThings Hub. On/Off works but no power monitoring with initial SmartThings setup.

Works well on a short distance from the hub
Picked one up as this zwave device had a good price, However the max range that I can put this away from the hub, is about 18 ft.

    Works well with Vera
Works well with a Vera controller with a little bit of extra configuration. Had to edit the capabilities list to be able to get it to handle power monitoring. The string that is currently in it (after the pipe symbol) is: 34B,37B,39B,50B:4,89B,90B,94B,112B,114B,115B,122B,133B,134B,152,

    Performed as expected
Performed as expected. Took a couple of try’s to pair but since paired works perfectly for a great price.

    minor hiddup
Works fine most of the time. However, using the button to cycle a lamp on/off resulted in the system hanging. Had to unplug the plug back in to get it to start working again. Don't have the problem if using the software to turn it on/off

    Mediocre at best
This is my first z-wave device, so my only basis of comparison for this sort of thing is Insteon. Compared to the Insteon modules, the range/reliability on this is poor. It is located about 10 feet away from the central controller and yet about 10% of the commands are missed. Additionally, the power measurement feature is a bit suspect; the instantaneous power reading (i.e. watts) is in agreement with my kill-a-watt, however the cumulative reading is low. Since I'm using this on a fixed schedule timer, I know that 130 watts * 9 hours / day should be 1.17 KWH / day and yet the device reports about a third of this usage on the KWH readout.

    Works ok, at times, not
I have the plug connected to my Smartthings setup. I had to use some custom code to get the power monitoring to work along with the on/off. There are times where Smartthings will issue a command and it will not respond for several minutes. I have not determined yet if it is the device or the Smartthings system. I don't have issues with the regular Smartthings plugs so I am guessing it is the former.

For the price, I can't complain too much.
