BEST ANSWER: It refers to the "female" USB Type C port on the bulky portion of the adapter.
For reference, the USB Type C jack/plug that protrudes from the adapter (and connects to the host device) could also be referred to as a "USB Type C Male".

Has anyone confirmed if this works with the latest 2016 MacBooks? I see a lot of adapters like this on amazon not work with the newest 2016 MacBooks.

Will this power a 15" 2016 MacBook Pro? I have another hub with passthrough power, but it's unable to charge this laptop; I guess the power draw is too high. It's only advertised for the 2016 MacBook, not the MacBook Pro.

BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. Yes this hub is able to pass through power necessary to charge a 15" Macbook pro provided that the power supply plugged in is able to provide sufficient power to charge the computer while directly connected on its own.

Small hub with a good number of outlets.
I purchased a Monoprice Select Series USB Type-C to 4x USB Type-A 3.0 and USB-C (F) Adapter, over a year ago and have been very pleased with it. I use it to connect USB-A equipped devices to my Chromebook's USB-C outlets. I like it so much that I purchased a second one to travel with. It is small, has a good number of outlets, and the white color makes it easy to find amongst other gear.

A great mini-dock adapter for USB-C laptops
This is a great, effective, low profile, mini-dock type adapter for any computer with USB-C connections. As a plus it features pass-through charging as well. Instead of using the four ports on my MacBook Pro, with the wear and tear that includes, I now use only one while still connecting four peripherals.

Works pretty well
Nice looking unit, works pretty well, sockets could be finished better (needed to bend some metal).

Works, but needs improvement
For the most part, it works as advertised with my 2017 15" MacBook Pro.
However, it is poorly shielded, so it will interfere with WIFI networks running on some frequencies. This is a common problem with USB 3.
Also, the power input powers the USB devices as well. But, the devices will momentarily disconnect whenever you plug or unplug the power cable. So if you have hard drives on it they will unmount.

It's fine, but I wish I'd have upgraded
This is, as usual, exactly what Monoprice says it is--a very nice adapter that gets you from a USB-C (new Mac Powerbook in my case) to the old USB plugs on things like disk drives. That said, I wish I had only gotten the gigabit model. It's more bucks, but it's a better choice.

I needed this.
With the introduction of USB-C ports on various devices, especially laptops and Chromebooks. I needed a "hub" that would allow me to attach several USB-A devices to my USB-C only Chromebook. Everything I used it to connect to my Chrome book worked. Including a mouse, and external hard drives. Well constructed, compact, and at a great price. Buy it!! ;-)

Great product
a wonderful and necessary addition to my new Apple MacBook Pro. Since the change of USB port need this to use anything I already own with it. Works seamlessly.
