BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interest in this mic. The red ring at the base of the windscreen does illuminate when the mic is active. When you push the button on the weight base to mute the mic the ring will turn off.

On my unit, the red light near the capsule stopped working almost immediately. Not a deal breaker, but I thought it was a nice feature--an extra reminder that the talkback is on.

I've gotten several apparently conflicting answers. My question refers specifically to to the red ring around gooseneck straight shaft part immediately below the mic capsule or its windscreen: is that ring something that lights up when the mic is "on" (allowed by the switch on the base.) Or is that just red paint? As usual, Monoprice's descriptions leave important information out.

Is the switch a momentary or latching type?

BEST ANSWER: This has a latching switch. But don't let that be your deciding factor, I use this with my Zoom H6N and it is by far the best microphone I own. I bought two of these, I normally use a lav mic on the main person I'm recording and then use this for the secondary people who don't talk much. The mic is extremely powerful, you can turn it up to record everyone in a room or lower to just the person directly in front of it. It's also phantom powered. The light on the base lights up when it's on and there's another red ring near the tip of the microphone. I used these daily for over a year and have absolutely no complaints.

This is a latching switch. You have to press it again to turn it off. One thing to note, it’s not a silent switch, there is a slight audible sort of click that happens when you turn it off.

BEST ANSWER: I've not tested it, but it might be possible with the proper adapters. This microphone is designed to be used with a typical audio mixer and has an XLR connector like a typical sound system microphone. Since this is a condenser microphone, you will have to make sure you have batteries installed. A sound system mixer can provide phantom power over the microphone cable, but your computer can't do that.
Monoprice Product # 4768 and Product # 4768 would POSSIBLY do what you need, but again, I haven't tested that.
The Monoprice Mik-It (Product # 600899) would work well for this if a USB connection to your computer meets your needs.

Yes, but you will need an adapter (or adapters) that can convert XLR to 1/8" (headphone size). You will also need to power the mic with batteries.

You have to have a 48v Phantom power supply to use the mic. Generally speaking, I don't think the audio input or a computer can supply enough power to run this microphone.

BEST ANSWER: Not directly. This mic is not a USB mic, but has a XLR connection. With the correct adaptor, you could plug it in. We run our mic to a audio mixer which has USB out and that connects to a computer. We use this mic in a conference room, which has four other microphones in it, hence the mixer. We have really liked this mic and it works extremely well for the main person speaking in this conference room.

This Mic is made to connect to a PA system. It also requires power to work. You can use batteries to avoid the need for phantom power. The output is either an XLR or 1/4 inch connector. I don't have a MacBook Air but I am sure that you would need an adapter just to connect it. Then I am still not sure that it would work.

I don't know what you are plugging yours into but these work with phantom power that is typically available on all but very old mixers. I've never used the battery power option. In other words, there's no need for a battery as long as you have phantom power on your mixer or input device. You could also use an external phantom power, if by chance, your mixer or power head or whatever doesn't have phantom power. Again, you can avoid using batteries altogether. I believe this will be your best solution - turn on your phantom power and forget it!

BEST ANSWER: I have used this mic with the battery removed and the 48V phantom power on a mixer engaged. The light indicator on the gooseneck requires a little more power than other condenser mics. Many small mixers have phantom but only 3-5V

Yes, but the base section must be attached. You cannot detach the gooseneck/mic portion and attach a cable directly to it.

I'm interested in purchasing this for my office. What other implements need to be bought with this. We currently have a PolyCom phone with two microphones. Is it compatible or does this replace the PolyCom. For instance, does it come with a dialing pad and what do the mics plug into, things like that?

BEST ANSWER: So long as you can connect via the 1/4" jack to your PolyCom system this should be compatible with it. It does not come with a dialing pad.

BEST ANSWER: It's a good idea but there are no mounting holes on the base, just 4 pads to let it sit on a horizontal surface like a table. The base is also weighted for stability.

Awesome value for the money!
There are lectern mics that offer better gain before feedback, and there are lectern mics that sound better (this one is a bit "dynamic" sounding), but they cost a LOT more money. If you can work with these short comings they are an excellent value!

I would certainly recommend these mics, they far surpassed my expectations.
Worked very well for this conference. Over 50 mics, all worked perfectly, and sounded amazing.

Push to talk that works
We purchased 12 of these mics several months ago for a live / streaming / hybrid committee meeting. They have been used numerous times since. We've been very pleased with the performance. All 12 worked as expected out of the box. Push to talk is a great function for these type meetings, and the lighted LED ring when active provides the Chair with adequate awareness of who is wishing to speak. A very cost-effective option for quality board meeting sound.

Excellent sound quality, easy to use.
Excellent sound, comparable to premium name brands at a fraction of the cost. Easy to use, works off phantom power or a couple of AAA batteries. The included foam pop filter helps reduce transient pops. I packed it in my laptop case with new batteries installed and they were dead when I unpacked it. I?m fairly certain the button was getting depressed. Just to be sure, I installed new batteries to do a runtime test. I powered on the mic on a Friday at 7:30PM, hoping it would go at least 5 or 6 hours. The next afternoon it was still on. I turned it on and off a few times and it was still going strong. It finally died a week later on Friday afternoon. If I were to ask for an improvement, it would be to make the light ring a switchable feature. I like it, but some clients don?t want that red ring in the shot. Just put gaffe tape over it when needed.

Really pleased with this product
We have a large number of these mics, and they are a super value. We typically deploy Shure MX series or AKG tabletop mics for professional situations. We had a client request a very large number of tabletop mics due to a Covid-19 streaming setup that needed a lot of people very distant. We bought more than 25 of these, and honestly, while not QUITE as good as the professional mics - the difference is easily EQd out. Feedback rejection is not QUITE as good, but really very close as well. The on/off button base stations are also great.
