Will this work well for a 70v landscape speaker setup? I'm trying to build my first 6 speaker stereo landscape sound system to blanket my yard.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, just make sure that you use 70V speakers with a transformer NOT 4-ohm or 8-ohm stereo speakers. Output will be mono which actually works better outside because the full range of music will be heard from each speaker instead of just left or right. That's why 70V is used in most stores and restaurants.

This is the unit I used to replace a burned out amp on my 70v pool speaker system. This unit has a lot more capability than I needed, but using only the single input I require feeds the speaker function beautifully.

if i have 4 speakers inside and want to have 2 speakers outside i want to be able to control the volume of the outside ones separately than the inside ones (mainly to have the outside ones quieter), am i able to do this with the amp or do i just wire them in to the other 4 and have a volume control for the outside ones?

BEST ANSWER: You may be able to locate a 70 volt variable rheostat that allows you to vary the draw to the outside speakers. The other thing I can think of is to just set the taps of the outside speakers to a lesser wattage than the inside speakers. Once the ratio of inside to outside volume is set, then you can adjust the total system volume at the amp.

I used this amp to provide an output to volume controls for separate zones in a restaurant, such as you describe above (inside & outside). I ran the output wires to the input of the volume controls and then wired from the volume controls to the specific zone; grill area, dining room and outside patio. It should work for you fine.

If you are using the 70V output terminals I would install a 70V volume control for the outside speakers. Remember, the main volume control on the amp sets the volume, so the 2nd volume control can only be adjusted :Down" from whatever the main volume control is set to.

This is a single channel amplifier. You would need to add a 70v volume control to set exterior level equal to or less than the interior speakers.
To have separate amps would allow you to have interior off and still use the exterior.

When will the output level lights come on? The ones on my 120W have not come on at all I have one TOA 10watt 70v horn and two 32watt OSD audio 70v speakers connected. Should the output level lights show with this setup? Just wondering if there is a problem why they never light up.

I installed 2 of these amplifiers; 1 for a show room and the other for a warehouse area. The lights do not come on in the show room, but they do come on in the warehouse. The wattage in the show room is very low per speaker with a total of 6 speakers / 33 watts. The wattage in the warehouse is higher per speaker. I only have 4 speakers in the warehouse, but they pull 80 watts total. If the volume is low, then the lights seem to not come on, but if you turn up the volume, then the lights come on.

so long as you are driving the audio high enough, yes, the lights are working.
I have an amp driving 17, 70V speakers almost each has its own zone L-Pad,, I found I had to drive the amp main and AUX1 up to 60% each and then I saw the lights. then we brought up the zone controls and worked fine.
if you drive the audio up and can not get the lights to work, perhaps it is a bad unit.
I found nothing wrong with the amp and it is working as expected.
hope this helps.

If the efficiency of the speakers is very high (100DB or so) it is possible at volume levels that are "reasonable" you will never see the lights. If you turn the volume up to very loud levels and they do not come on, then there maybe some problem with the light circuit. If there is no distortion and you have reasonable levels of sound, it is probably not worth worrying about.

Enter an answer to this question.Hi. I am a professional AV installer. If you have installed “regular” (non-70volt) speakers this amp will not work for you. Take a look at the speakers you’ve installed. If there is a copper coil transformer on the back then you’ve installed 70 volt speakers. If the wire leads attach to the speaker coil without a transformer then you have regular 4ohm or 8ohm speakers. If you have 4ohm-8ohm speakers you will need a regular amplifier and need to be mindful of how many speakers you run on each channel.

How to input an aux line from a mixer?
A shopper
on May 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Looks like your question can be answered several different ways.
I will assume you want to use an additional mixer and plug one its AUX outs to this mixer/amp.
You can come off the 1/4" AUX out of the mixer and use one of the 1/4" MIC inputs on back, use the gain knob so you do not clip or distort the input. Since this is a mono amplifier you can also use a 1/4" to RCA cable and plug into one of the RCA line inputs.

My audio source is coming from an 3.5 mm unbalanced jack. Can I use this to connect to 4 speakers to boost the audio in a conference room? If so what would be the proper cable to get from the 3.5 mm to the amp.

New User U
on Dec 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely! Use a 3.5mm to male RCA cable to tie directly into the amplifier's Auxiliary port. If you add 70 Volt ceiling speakers, just make sure to connect to the 70V output on the back of the amp and make sure the amplifier can adequately supply the power rating needed when you add up your speakers.
For example: if you ordered 2 of the ceiling speaker pairs (Product # 24214) and used the 20 watt tap wire to hook it up, the total wattage would be 20W x 4 = 80 watts. You would need a 120 watt amplifier to supply power to the system. However, if you used another type of 70 Volt speaker with the 7.5 watt tap setting selected (a switch you can choose how much power the speaker is drawing from the system), (7.5W x 4 = 60W) you could use a 60 watt amplifier. That said, you generally want to over-size your amplifier when using a 70 Volt system to account for additional draws on the system. You don't want a 60 watt amplifier supplying it's full rating all day long, but occasional conference room use would be fine.

Just for the record, I am not a professional, just asked a lot of questions.
I had the same application of an unbalanced source. Utilizing the 3.5mm female to RCA cable adapter (similar to 5612) it worked just fine. I use the amp to power 8 individual speakers on the 70v output (similar to 14888) utilizing speaker wire (such as 2817) and the system has not let me down yet. You may find that it is actually louder than what you desire for a conference room. I would recommend the 5w setting at a low volume and starting there. Hope this helps.

BEST ANSWER: These speakers would make a great match. The 120W amplifier is excellent for your application. Important: These 6.5” speakers have 3 power taps (wires you can hook to), 5W, 10W or 20W. Whatever you do, do not exceed 90% of your amp’s rated power. If you connect all 8 of the speakers via their “10W tap”, the system will see 80W load on the amplifier. Should work great for your application. One of the easiest systems to install. Tie all of your positives together. Tie all of your negatives together. Yes, you can daisy chain. It would be possible, if you connected to the blue (5 watt) or orange (10 watt) taps. The amp is rated for 120 watts and you want to leave yourself some room, so 8 speakers at 10 watts would work. Do not connect to the 20 watt tap on the transformer as that would give you a 160 watt requirement.

on Sep 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in our commercial audio products. The manual for this product is available for download from the product page. It explain how the math for 70V speaker works in a safe manner. Basically when you decide what power tap you want to use for each speaker. Most transformers will give you 2-4 options. If the JVC's are 30W RMS @ 8Ω the you may have 30W, 15W & 7.5W taps. Let's say you use the 15W tap on 15 speakers then the total power from the amplifier will be 225W. Any amp running 70V should only run 80% of max power to ensure long uninterrupted service. Our 240W models should only run 192W max. You will need to run some at 7.5W like lavatories and shorter ceiling areas so people are not blasted.

I would select the 240 W. If you have 20 speakers at 10 W tap on the transformer that would be 200 W. That would also give you a room to add more speakers if you wanted to

Depends on which transformers you purchase and whey they are tapped at. Also, the rating of the speaker as well. It is always better to overdrive than under drive.

How do I connect two 12 inch speakers to amp? Which ports do I put speaker wires in?
New User U
on Aug 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Which connections you use is determined by the type of speaker you have, not the size of the speaker; if you have 70V speakers, this amp is great; I've bought and used a dozen of them in commercial applications without issue. If you have 12" 8ohm speakers, you have consumer/residential speakers and you should Google to learn the difference between them for educational purposes, which will explain the connections quite well to you also. :)

you wont have stereo, but attach the white wires to one of the COM screws the back of the unit. Depending on the ohm rating on the speakers, attach the black or red wire to the 4-16 ohm screw.

I have a restaurant with 70v ceiling dishes and 3 traditional pioneer speakers. Can this power them both?
A shopper
on Feb 27, 2024
BEST ANSWER: You cannot power both 70 volt speakers and 8 or 4 ohm impedance speakers from the same amplifier. The simple fix is purchase 70 volt line transformers to attach to the Pioneer speakers and make all the speakers able to use the 70 volt line. If the Pioneer speakers are large scale such as for a live music band stage speaker it would be better to use 2 amplifiers, but if they are similar to the dish speakers you are good to go with the transformers.
Make sure the output of the amplifier wattage is higher than the total of the tap wattage of all speakers. Example: if you have 10 dish speakers using a 5 watt tap, equals 50 watts (5 x 10), the amplifier should be at least 60 watts output on the 70 volt line. With this 120 watt amplifier you can use 20 speakers at 5 watts each. Also, try using the lower wattage taps on the speakers for the majority and if you have an area that the speakers are higher or in a bit noisier are you can use a higher tap, but still need to add all taps to get the total to mathc to the amplifier.

I assume that by traditional you mean 4OHM or 8OHM speakers, then the answer is yes. Just be careful to connect every kind to the corresponding output. Also consider the total OHMs depending on the wiring (series or parallel)
Refer to documentation for that, especially if you have 3 of those and not in pairs.

As long as your total speaker wattage stays below 80% of maximum rated output of amplifier, you should be ok. If you will be installing the amplifier in an enclosure, air circulation is recommended.

There is not a UL rating on the amp. I believe that these are manufactured in China. I installed 2 of these for a paging and background music solution. They have been working great. The volume is turned up higher on the amp in the warehouse area than the amp in the showroom, so the fan will intermittently turn on for the amp that has the volume up higher. Not that big of a deal. They have been installed for about 3 months and everything is working great.

BEST ANSWER: Our Commercial Audio 120W 5ch Mixer/amp is a great choice for this exact scenario. You can easily connect 6 of our Commercial Audio 70V Ceiling speakers in parallel to the 70V output. Use 14888 4" speakers for size limitation or 14887 6.5" speakers if you want better bass response. Connect your music source to the RCA's on the back and enjoy the music. You can plug our 14891 paging mic to the front mic input if you need to make announcements and the music will automatically attenuate until you are finished.

Since you would likely never need the speakers to output more than 10W of power either one of the speakers you had posted would be fine for the application you described and would be installed in almost the exact same manner.
As for the mixer which one you choose would be determined by how many speakers you plan on using.
If you need 5 or less speakers #18800 would be a good choice any more then that and I would opt for #14886.

BEST ANSWER: The fan is activated by a thermal heat limiter. Anytime the amp begins to get too hot, the thermal limiter senses the heat and turns on the fan. If the fan runs constantly, I would check for obstructions around the amp that could be restricting airflow. Can the common output terminal be grounded? I am planning on installing a 70 volt system with the wires running in conduit. At each speaker connection I am planning on using an RCA female connector that I mounted on the bottom of a weatherproof box, so the black wire (common) will be grounded to the box at the connections.
