Is this a pair of cables for 2 speakers? Or just a single cable?

BEST ANSWER: Hello, in regards to your inquiry. This is actually one cable, but it has a certain length for the red and black cables to split. I hope this clarifies it for you. Thank you!

Some of the previous answers are confusing. These are sold as a single red and black (positive and ground) cable, so you will need to purchase two for two speakers.

Can this wire be used with active speakers?
Robert B
on Nov 19, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Most "active" speakers have proprietary wiring, one has the amp, processors inputs. Etc, and the other is passive and connects to the one with the amp with one cable. So probably not. These are for connecting passive speakers to an amp or receiver.

Yes but Active speakers have internal amps. . I run passive speakers to an Amp that's what you need the speaker cables for.... Good luck you can also ask the speaker company on the best way to connect them.

I doubt it active speakers have their own integrated amp built in. So you connect your source directly into the powered speakers.

Can you twist off the plugs to use these as bare wire with spring clip terminals?
A shopper
on May 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I just had a look at mine and I can't see any way of removing the plugs without destroying the cables. They seem tightly bonded and are probably soldered to the tips. I'm guessing, if you wanted to be crude about it, you could clip off the ends, strip off the jacket, and put your own spring clips on. Now as for simply screwing off the metal red and black aluminum jackets and inserting clips? No go, sir.

Do you bi-wire?
A shopper
on Apr 9, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I do use a bi amp setup, however, I would not recommend this product. The pin connectors on the other end have no support and are prone to pulling out and/or shorting. I have created a make shift separator using electrical tape to remedy.

No. I have two amps (one for surround, the other for straight 2-channel) into a switch, so no. I have tried it before, but since I couldn't detect a difference, for me there's no point. YMMV!

Yes, there is such an adapter here at Monoprice, though the company doesn't seem to understand the potential of its own stock! I too need pin connectors, though in my case the amplifier end is where need them (whereas my speaker terminals accommodate bananas). I have successfully used product #5976 for many years, and I recommend them to you and to anyone else needing banana-to-pin plug adapters.

Are the conductors in the banana plugs made of pure copper? I've noticed that other banana plugs on the Monoprice site are made of brass. I understand that the sheaths are aluminum, and the surface of the plugs are gold-plated, but I am curious as to the core conductor. Thanks!

Is the entire length of wire tinned, or just the ends? I have read that fully tinned conductors yield a brighter sound, though I'm not convinced this to be true.
Jon F
on Apr 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The cable is composed of Copper Clad Aluminum conductors. There is no real world downside to using CCA speaker wire in lengths less than 15ft and is not ran in walls. Modern amplifiers are strong and powerful enough that a minor loss in cable conductivity will not affect the quality of the sound in any way.

The product description clearly states: "The 14AWG copper conductors have been tinned to prevent corrosion" hence the response from Manuel is inaccurate. These are not CCA, they are copper.
Generally such items are tinned throughout their length, and you'll read people saying everything from aluminum to silver yields a brighter sound, but there is no evidence whatever to support such rumors.

How can you tell if your speakers or amplifier accept banana plugs or pin plugs?
A shopper
on Apr 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Behind the amplifier or receiver it will say speakers A or Speakers B. They are usually red and black like the items you are asking about. If they can unscrew and have a hole in the middle then your equipment will accept banan plugs. Hope that helps.

The speaker/amp needs to have something that look like a socket right at the edge of the connector so you can connect the banana plug pin in.

Good value speaker cables
Good cables. Good 'bang for the buck'. Very clearly designed to easily tell which is left and right: that actually comes in handy when you're trying to get a look at the back of an amp or speaker and it's hard to see what you're doing back there. Reasonably flexible. The banana plugs make for a solid connection and the quickest changes (connecting/reconnecting) if your particular equipment takes banana plugs. For the best sound, buy the shortest speaker cables that your particular room/placement situation will allow. I'd take these over cheap 'zip cord' ANY day!

Definitely Recomended
I don't claim to have "Golden Ears" but I've been involved in what used to be called "High Fidelity" for decades. Is my hearing as acute as it once was, no. But it's still pretty good, for which I thank God! I'm glad that I bought these Monoprice speaker cables, and I recommend them without reservation.

Can't Beat 'em
These are great speaker wires. Forget the fact they don't cost an arm and a leg. I had been using some fairly expensive "brand name" speaker cables and thought I would try these when I noticed them on sale. I switched the cables and hear absolutely no difference between these the much more expensive ones. Highly recommended for those who care about quality sound and not bragging rights.
The aluminium cable heads were loose and needed to be screwed on tight, but that was the only issue I have found with them.
In the FAQ section, someone mentions that the wire is Copper Clad Aluminum. The package says the wires are "100% Pure Bare Copper." I have not taken the cables apart to confirm this.
