Is this sutiable for outdoor use?
Ron Thaisz T
on Sep 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It's specified as "Riser Rated". That means it is intended to be run indoors in ceilings and risers and in the event of a fire, toxic fumes from the jacket are minimized. There is nothing that indicates that this particular cable is rated for outdoor or underground use.
Look instead at the following for outdoor use:

I ran some from my house down to my new garage buried in the ground but put it and some coax inside a water line to shield it from rocks etc.

No. CMR is indoor riser. You need CMX rated Cat6

Can these be ran underground?
Talal D
on May 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I do not believe the cable is rated for direct burial. You could probably do it and expect moderate life (who knows 5+ years) but I would avoid any UG splices. My sister in law installed it in PVC conduit and that should provide very long life as long as you don't accidently dig it up and damage the conduit.

They are not rated for underground usage as in just burying the cable.
If you put it inside a conduit underground then sure its fine.
Google: "conduit cable fill calculator" if you are putting more than one strand in a conduit.

The outer jacket is not moisture-resistant, fungus-resistant or UV resistant for outdoor use. I'll let you figure out what can happen.

I would not run these underground. There are ethernet cables that are "all weather" or meant for outside that I would go with

Is this rated for in wall installation?
Sal N

BEST ANSWER: Yes. It is actually riser rated (CMR), which means it is rated to go from floor to floor. CMR is actually a more stringent rating than the in-wall rating (CM).

I noticed that the orange and orange-white pairs are twisted at a tighter configuration than the other wires. Is there a reason for this? And as a result, would it be preferred to wire this for 568A or 568B configuration.

Good day. No, it does not matter how tight or loose the wires are twisted as you will need to untwist them anyway in order to terminate the ends. Either 568a or 568b is fine, doesnt matter which one you use as long as the entire environment you're in (home or business network) uses the same configuration throughout. I personally used 568b to wire my house as thats the most widely used method in the industry.

Is it actually 500 or 550 Mhz? Title of the product here says "550Mhz", but in description of the product it says "500Mhz". On the box I've received this morning it also says "500Mhz". Typo in the title here then or is it a marketing lie?

Okay cable, disappointed in kinking and lack of distance markings
The insulation on the individual pairs is properly inked making the colors easy to see. The outer jacket is thick enough but strips readily. My roll fed easily but I did notice some apparent kinks in the cable from the manufacturing process which I didn't appreciate - nothing dramatically kinked but I wondered if it was a "second". It crimps fine and all my connections run at a gigabit (as best I can test without a proper Fluke cable tester). Also expected (assumed) distance markings would be on the cable but their weren't any. Not bad overall but I wouldn't personally buy it again.

Works for my home gigabit network
Bought this for a gigabit home setup. When installed and hooked to a gigabit switch, file transfers over the network approach 1gbps in real world use (~110MB/s).Haven't been able to test 10gbps, but in theory at the distances I've run the ethernet, 10gbps should also be possible with the right switches and NICs.

Not Happy
To be honest, I was quite disappointed that the cable was ‘Made In China’ and that it is completely unmarked. I should think, for the price, it should be labeled among it’s length, "Cat6 Ethernet Cable - Solid, 550Mhz, UTP, CMR, Riser Rated, Pure Bare Copper Wire, 23AWG”. It is not. It’s completely blank.I am not happy about this. Thanks for asking.

Easy to use & reliable
Used this to create in-wall runs from router to hub, and between several rooms. Wired into both male & female jacks (using Monoprice punch-down and holder). Cuts easily, labeled clearly, and easy to work with. Been installed for almost a year now, no problems whatsoever.
