The picture shows individually shielded pairs, the product description says unshielded, and a previously answered question said only overall shield!!! So which is it?

BEST ANSWER: They are individually shielded in pairs, but the white lines does not have a stripe, so keep them together when unsheathing the pair. Basically, the solid white is really the green stripe wire when wrapped with the solid green wire. Same for the other 3 solid colors.

Can this cable be used outside?
A shopper
on Oct 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It might be okay in some conduit, but the CM is an indoor rating. You want to look for outdoor and/or UV rated cables, which should be specifically mentioned in the description or tech specs of the item you're looking at.

Does not say that it’s rated for outdoor use. Would probably need to be placed in conduit as to protect from moisture and UV rays

Yes, it should be suitable for outdoor or in-wall use. It’s a bulky and strong cable.

Does this cable have an individual shield around every twisted pair or just one single shield around all four pairs?

The roll I received has a foil shield around each pair, unlike the picture. Also unlike the picture, each colored wired is paired with plain white, no stripe.

I ordered a 250' spool and it is not what I was expecting. I ordered the same item as what I had previously got but this cable is different. I too received cable that has each of the 4 pairs individually shielded. It does not have the center plastic divider shown in the picture. Also, and very important the individual wires are thicker and do not fit any of my connectors. I've googled and it appears that the cable I received is not CAT6 but more likely CAT7. I've reached out to Monoprice for help but haven't heard back yet.

Since this is a thicker cable than standard Cat6, do you need a special ethernet connector? If so, which one?

I ran the cable through the attic and walls, but did not terminate it, however I don’t see why a standard connector won’t work. You should be able to crunch the cable down enough to make it fit. Note that it is stiff and not as easy to rout as other cables.

What is the conductor diameter, conductor insulation diameter, and overall cable outer diameter all in mm?
Diyer
on Apr 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Wire diameter calculation
The n gauge wire diameter dn in millimeters (mm) is equal to 0.127mm times 92 raised to the power of 36 minus gauge number n, divided by 39:
dn (mm) = 0.127 mm × 92(36-n)/39
so 23awg would be .57mm
a quick search for AWG to mm will help you out a lot.

Why does this say it's rated for a frequency of 550 mhz? Isn't the cat 6 standard up to 250 mhz?

Spent more trying to find connecters that would fit on the "23 AWG" wires in this cable than I did on the cable itself. Apparently this stuff is meant to be used in keystone jacks, not RJ45 connectors. Would have been nice to have that in the description.

Premium Quality Cable
As a systems integrator, this is the go to prewire cable. This is shielded service line, if you are putting terminators/crystals on the end, you bought the wrong cable and have more homework to do. Not trying to be a jerk, just being honest. This line is intended for running service from one punch down distribution point to another or keystone that is rated for 23AWG. Leaving negative reviews because you don't know better is not fair to the vendor when their quality is on point.

Big stuff that doesnt work with normal connectors
It works but the shielded cable individual conductors are too big for normal cat 6 connectors. Would have been nice to know before installing and buying

no striped wires
what is received was little different than the picture. The "white" wires were actually white. Not blue/white or orange/white. So, there was a twisted pair of a solid blue wire with a white wire. Could work around it but just had to pay attention to which WHITE wire you were working with. No striped wires.

Hard to terminate ends
Could not get any ends to work on this thick cable. Even ordered special large connector for 23ga cat6 wire. Ended up pulling cat5e and moved on.

REALLY thick cable, like REALLY REALLY thick
To be completely honest here, I'd never made my own cables before. So maybe I made some incorrect purchases. But to the best of my knowledge I did everything right. These cables just plain old Do Not Fit into any regular terminators/ends I could find. I got ones that specifically said Cat6A, and 23AWG and still just could not fit all 8 wires into the ends.
That being said, I got the Cat6A tool-less keystones from here, and those fit perfectly on this cable. So I've just been ending these cables in wall ports on both ends. Not the end of the world, but definitely made my first time doing this more annoying than it needed to be.

Worked great, pretty stiff but I knew that going in from reading the reviews. Still not to difficult to pull through the walls and attic.
