BEST ANSWER: since I have nothing else better to do with this device, I decided to test for you.
1600x900, 1260x768, 1344x1008, 1280x768, 1024x768, 800x600 all displayed on my TV as expected either cropped, letterbox or stretched. however the TV did not report the correct resolution it did however look like it was actually displaying the passed resolutions. 1080P, 1080i, 720P and {?}480P all were reported by the TV as the appropriate resolution. so the answer is yes it can indeed pass through most resolutions. however I don't have anything 4K to test with.

You need to use an HDMI Switch, Splitter, or Matrix. You may also need an Extender if the rooms are far apart.

BEST ANSWER: Yes you can insert audio it has a ⅛ mini analog input or a fiber optic digital port. It doesn’t matter if the original HDMI has audio or not , the unit can replace it and it ends up as part of the HDMI output. You can also bypass the unit if you want the original audio (if any). I found that it works quite nicely and is easy to use.

Thanks.

Unfortunately optical only sends 2 channels, your surround comes from Dolby digital or DTS encoding the surround into the 2 channels. While I might be able to get something else to convert ANALOG to optical with surround encoded, I would have to settle for AC3 quality HDMI can handle it all as LPCM.

BEST ANSWER: HDMI is transferring audio and video. The HDMI audio inserter enables to merge a video signal from one source with an audio signal from a different source. It works well for me. If the incoming HDMI signal already has an audio signal it will be replaced with the audo signal that comes from the audio source.

The selector slide switch passes either the original audio, a new digital audio through the optical Toslink input, or a new analog audio through the 1/8 inch phone jack. You choose one of the three to appear on the HDMI Out jack.

BEST ANSWER: You'll receive the HDMI Audio Inserter, a power supply, user's manual and a box. No cables are included. The audio inserter has HDMI in and out for video and a stereo 1/8in jack for the audio. For my application, I needed an RCA to 1/8in cable for the audio. I've been using it with my security camera DVR that has an HDMI output for video only. I insert the audio with this box. I've used it for many months without any problems.

Not sure if this product can help my problem, but here goes. I have an LG OLED 55B6 TV which has some built-in apps like Netflix. I want to add a SONOS Playbar but it doesn't handle Dolby Digital Plus (Netflix audio) or DTS (Blu-ray) formats. It also only accepts an optical in. Could I use this switch to take the HDMI ARC signal from the TV to transcode the DD Plus / DTS audio to Dolby Digital 5.1 and output via optical to the sound bar?

on Apr 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Unfortunately this audio inserter would not support HDMI ARC. So that would not be possible. We would not carry a device that would work in that way with HDMI ARC. You should be able to use the TV's Optical (Toslink) output, the Blu-ray and TV should support using Dolby Digital 5.1. However, you would still have issues with having DD Plus working since the SONOS Playbar does not support it. Perhaps looking into a soundbar that would support DD Plus, DTS and HDMI ARC would be best. I do apologize for any inconvenience and I hope this helps.

Is there some way to disable the power switch so that the external power feed can be be switched on and off with our full video system and have the audio insertion work when ever there is an active external power feed? I really don't want to hack into the box to bypass the switch. I also don't want our operators to dig into the video system to press the button and I don't want to waste energy by never turning the unit off. Besides, a power failure would also make the box useless when power returns and no one notices.

Hi, I have a 4k TV and it's connected to my computer. I want to use the speakers of my TV. Will this device allow for a 4k 60hz resolution which I am feeding to the TV?

Hi !
We are trying to combine a camera video only HDMI signal with a analog stereo audio signal. Will this product work if the original HDMI signal has no audio in it? Some reviews mention that it does not work if original HDMI signal does not have any audio.

I was not sure how to get my own audio to a TV connected to my computer. With this device I'm able to monitor my audio through the TV speakers for reference. Very handy if your audio has to translate to a TV.

I needed to get audio from a mixing board in the sanctuary to added TV's in auxiliary seating area. It worked perfectly.

does what it should
Only used it once so far. Inserted the audio as expected. No noticeable out of sync between video and audio using L/R

Gerat addition to Webmaster X2
The HDMI inserter was used in conjunction with Webcaster X2 to insert audio from the church audio system, versus the camera we used for creating DVDs. The inserter works flawlessly, is all so requires little space. We used a standard 3.5mm stereo input, whereas you can use Optical as well, and switch easily from pass-through audio (HDMI) or inserted auxiliary sound
well worth the money!

Great little box
Im using this to get a high quality digital audio signal integrated with an HDMI for live music event video streaming. Works like a charm.

Great Product
I need the HDMI Audio Inserter only to convert the audio signal that comes out of a TV (optical SPDIF) into an HDMI signal to feed it into an AfterMaster Pro - which has only HDMI inputs and processes only the audio signal of it. I don't even use the full capability right now. It is good to know that I could mix different audio/video sources into one hdmi signal if necessary. It works great for my purposes so far.

Works great when it works
I've used a couple of these for video conference room installs (taking the audio from a microphone processor box, so it doesn't echo), and they work great... at least for a while, then they stop inserting audio and have to be rebooted. If these had stability, they'd be great, but as a product meant to be setup and then never touched, it's poor.
