Is the the large speaker stereo and the small speaker mono?
    A shopper on Nov 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. Both speakers are stereo and feature two drivers, one on each side.
Is this speaker stereo? Are there two drivers within this larger version?
    Scott C on Nov 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It appears to be stereo. 2 speakers in the front and 1 big one in back.
If left plugged into a power source, does the device stay on or does it "go to sleep" after some period of time? I want to connect to an Amazon Dot as the speaker output, so it would need to be "always on".
    Timothy J on Nov 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If connected to a power source, the speaker will remain on until manually turned off.
    Is this a stereo speaker?
    A shopper on Mar 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It has two full range drivers, one at each end of the speaker, facing forward. It also has a rear facing passive bass radiator on the back side. The back side has the elongated passive radiator that you can see through the grille.
What do the buttons do and what is the code used by the LED?
    Stanley M on Nov 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From left to right the buttons are as follows: Skip Track Back, Volume Down, Pair Bluetooth, Volume Up, Skip Track Forward. The LED Shows Power and Pairing Status. It is pretty self explanatory while using the speaker.
Where is the manual for the larger speaker model MP-13271?

Seriously? This much sound from such a tiny speaker?
I received this unit free of charge in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When asked if I was interested in reviewing the Vegas Bluetooth portable speaker, I wasn't expecting the surprise that I received. It came in the typical no frills, but well packaged white box from Monoprice. Upon opening it and removing the speaker from the box, I noticed there were no instructions. Now maybe mine was forgotten because it was a review unit. Logging on to their website, I also didn't see a downloadable manual. Oh well, I mean it's a Bluetooth device, so I should be able to figure it out.

Flipping the power switch to on, I was greeted with a red light on top of it and my Note 3 couldn't find the device. Ok so, deduction dear Watson, red usually means bad or dead. So I turned the unit off and plugged into my Select Series Power Bank ( pid 13083 ) on the 2.0 a side and let it charge. I recorded a 3.25hr recharge time. The unit will alternately change the led from blue to a purplish color while charging if the unit is on. It flashes red if off. Once done, it is solid blue while on or nothing when in the off stage. One interesting note on that , you can actually continue to use the device while it's charging. It's nice that you are able to so and not be without tunes while it charges up. Using my power bank I actually charged both my phone and this unit all the while enjoying music during the process of recharging.

Ok fine you say, but how does it sound? That is what you're really after right? Well the sound surprised the heck out of me. For it's size, it was rich and full. 3 Watts isn't much these days. But with the way the unit is designed and the 40mm drivers being 4 ohm, that makes a big difference in sound. The "rear" firing passive radiator, really does help the base response. High quality FLAK or MP3 files sound great. Low quality MP3 or WAV files can start the beginnings of distortion at maximum volume.

But what about the distance on the signal? I need leave my phone/Bluetooth unit right beside it, right? Nope. I measured 30' from either side. One was test was through glass. I left my phone on charger in my office and took the speaker out by the pool and through the glass at up to 30' it stayed connected, provided it had clear line of sight. Repeated this on the other side, while outside with my phone and same results. Clear line of sight I saw 30' of range. Tried it again from the rear of the unit and I recorded 35' of range, when unobstructed. Now your mileage might vary, but across my pool and facing the front, I was able to document 50' of distance before the signal started to drop. That's impressive.

I tested phone call operation on the unit and found the person on the other end to have a deeper voice then normal ( unless my mother in law was sick that day lol) but they were still clear and very recognizable. Comments on the other end were that I sounded normal and that the quality was clear. It's a neat feature to have built in for handling phone calls. For the price I think this unit is a good value and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. The only thing missing? The ability to daisy chain a couple of these together to place around your patio / pool area for when you're entertaining. They are sturdy and can withstand a drop from a table height so to use them for outdoor activities is a no brainer.

I did dock it one star for the lack of manual, either in the box or available here on the website. I'm sure this will be corrected and if so, then it gets 10 stars!

Thanks for taking the time to read this review, hope it helped in your purchasing decision.

PROS: Great sound, good Bluetooth signal distance, input jack for non BT devices

CONS: Unit wasn't charged, Sound will border on distortion at max volume depending on recording quality

    Good value
This little speaker sounds good and runs for a nice long time on a charge. If you want premium sound, get something else, but I would say this little speaker sounds great fine for it's size and price class.

    PROS: Compact
    Easy to use
    Sounds great

CONS: Instruction sheet says "see web site for manual" - but there isn't a manual. Still, not that hard to figure out volume and skip buttons. The other button was a little mysterious, but eventually revealed itself as "pause/resume/answer phone" (quick press) and "disconnect" (long press).

    Sounds nice...NO Manual
This really is a nice unit. I wish Monoprice would get on the stick and put up an on-line manual.
It's what everyone is asking for in the reviews.

    PROS: Sounds pretty good

    CONS: No Manual

    Exactly What I Wanted
My family loves music, and we just returned from a camping trip where music was provided via the speakers on my wife's mobile phone. Needless to say, this was less than ideal. When we returned, I sought out a portable Bluetooth speaker that wouldn't break the bank, was convenient, and would provide acceptable quality of sound. I've had great luck with my Monoprice purchases, so I investigated the several available options and settled on the Portable Melody Bluetooth.

The speaker arrived today, and I had it set up (using the provided Quick User Guide) in less than five minutes - I'm listening to it now, in fact. The sound quality is very good considering the compact size. I pushed the volume to the upper limits and experienced some distortion, but this was not unexpected.

The unit is heavier than I expected which is a good thing. I was a bit concerned that it might feel cheap and light however, it comes across as substantial.

I look forward to taking it out on my deck while I grill or to the workout room to play music for meditation or out on the next camping trip. I'm very pleased.

    PROS: Compact
High Quality Audio (as compared to equivalent products)
    Excellent Value

CONS: So as to be consistent with many of the other reviews, I will restate that there is no manual. I searched the site including the Downloads section and was unable to locate one. I hope Monoprice will rectify this soon.

Compact Speaker that Looks and Sounds Great
This was just the type of speaker I was looking for, larger than the small puck designs but at a price that doesn't break the bank.. The build quality is nice, it feels hefty and well put together and the battery is long lived. I like the speaker grill design, too, it looks kind of mid century modern.

Doesn't come with a user manual and monoprice doesn't have one on their site for download, so good luck figuring out the different things the middle button does.

    PROS: price
    battery life
    build quality

    CONS: No user manual

    Good for it's size
It's very good for the price. But don't expect this to replace your home stereo. This is for just on the go music. Or in my case I am using for Halloween decorations to hide it where people won't expect sound to come from. But battery life is good and after Halloween I will be giving it to my wife so she can use it at her office. I have tested with different genres of music. The bass is OK for its size, it does crackle when the volume is too high. The materials are plastic and some types of metal shroud, the over all weight of the speaker is good, and the sound diffusion is excellent for it's size.

PROS: Small, compact to fit into any bag or beach bag, or party bag, or even just good for your desk at your job. Bass is good for it's size, volume is good also. Just the really high volume causes crackling in the music. So as long as your a average listener to music at a normal volume then yes this is the product for you. It does fill a small room rather well. Outside is ok also, but don't use this for a large party, maybe on a table with a bunch of friends surrounding it.

CONS: Doesn't replace high amplified speakers.

    Good portasble speaker
I was a little surprised at the volume level it puts out. Bluetooth works as advertised. Seems well-built. What more do you want for $30.00?

    Great speaker for the price!
For around $25, you cannot beat the sound quality for the price. It was impressive how loud the speaker can go without much loss in audio quality. We went on vacation to the beach and had to turn it down several times due to scowls of people nearby. Must work quite well then. Highly recommended.

PROS: Audio quality for the price!

CONS: As all others before, lack of manual.

    Great portable Bluetooth speaker
    Great portable Bluetooth speaker
In trying to audition smaller portable Bluetooth speakers, I have listened Dozens. But there is nothing out there in this size and price range with this level of features he performs even close to this one. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time out hunting for what's already here. Just buy it

PROS: Best value. Blows away the competition at this price and size. Easy to use, charges fast and plays for hours on one charge.

    CONS: There are none.

    Unbeatable for the price!
I work in a large warehouse, and after several months of everyone getting sick of the radio, people started bringing in bluetooth speakers so that we could choose what we listened to. I was about the fifth person to pick one up and bring it in, and I spent less than half of what everyone else did on mine. Everyone agrees, the monoprice one sounds better, is better constructed, and is just all around the best value. A couple of the guys I work with even said they were just going to stop using theirs and go get their own new one from monoprice, because it's just that much better.

While it is slightly larger than most other speakers that are out there, not counting significantly smaller units which don't have nearly the battery life, or the sound, the weight is on par with other similar products, so if you're carrying it around either in your bag or in a pocket, it's really not that bad. That weight helps make the construction feel really solid though.

Really though, the best part about this speaker is the sound. It's loud. It's clean. It's throaty. It's hard to believe it's coming out of such a small box, and at such a tiny price tag. Sure, it's not going to sound as good as a pair of $500 studio monitors, but you can't throw those in your pocket and listen to them on the go for 30 bucks.

If I had to find one fault with the speaker, it would be the batter life. Granted, I play it at full volume, so obviously that's going to draw more juice than moderate levels would, but I get any where between 3-4 hours of playtime off a full charge before it turns off. Thankfully, I always have batter pack with me, so I can easily get through a full 8 hour day with it, but I would have loved to have seen the actual stated times on the page. Oh well, I fully expected 3-4 hours as that's what other speakers get off a similar capacity battery, so I knew what I was in for.

    PROS: The sound
    The size
    The build quality
    The style
    The price

    CONS: Average batter life
