Is partial burial recommended for improved bass response?
Also, separate question--do I need to toggle the dip switch for 70/100v or is that done automatically based on the amplifier?

BEST ANSWER: Partial burial is recommended for batter bass response. There is a 7 position switch next to the speaker cone for 8Ω, 32W, 16W, 8W, 4W, 2W or 1W 70V operation. 100V only goes down to 2W.

I have the bottom portion of mine in the ground which probably helps a little with bass, but this is really just how it is designed to be used. I don't listen to much bass heavy music, but I ended up doing 7 of these around the perimeter of my backyard which creates a very full sound.
You can see the dial on the right side of the second picture for switching from 8ohm to 2,4,8,16,32w. It is really simple to set up and also to adjust the sound while installed.

partial burial is not required, back pressure is created by solid plastic base. You have to select wattage with the adjustable tap located under the top of speaker. It is marked with 70 and 100v settings.

I am looking at Monoprice Commercial Audio 2-Way Omni-Directional Garden Speaker (NO LOGO) as an alternative to the much more expensive brands out there, but it appears that there is not much on the bottom of these speakers. So I wanted to know, how deep can these be buried? I have a rather large playful German Shepherd Dog and think that he might find these very "fun" to play with and if they would most likely be easily moved if they are not secure well in the ground. Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: The speaker can be recessed to the flat part of the speaker. There is a hole in the bottom to ballast with water or sand. A big playful German Sheppard may also need something like Nature's Miracle or some sort of spray that will deter him from being interested in the first place. You may want to look at our Syscamore 2.1 system. Little more money, little more work, much better sound, dog proof.

you are making the right choice monoprice .. garden speaker. the quality is near bose has the best outdoor speaker however you will pay..and really it's more the bose bass. the bose has 8omn only...monoprice offers 70volt or 8ohm.
doing outside install i do not recommend a 70 volt install....use 8ohm...to be safe you would have to install all 70 volt wiring in pipe. if you read to reviews about the speakers..one writer offered a pro and con of bose and monoprice.
sounds like he has deep pockets.
with a german sheppard would be a good idea to mount the speaker on a solid object. this guy had a giant german shepard, arco would eat a speaker when he was young...c
i install and use monoprice for large warehouses .... drowns out the fork lifts.
good luck with your project

Can I put these in my back flowerbed ~3ft from a cinderblock wall or is this a bad practice for an omni-directional speaker?
Ryan
on Jun 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for your interest in our garden speaker. this unit will perform well next to a wall. 3 feet should be plenty of room to minimize any phase cancellation you may be thinking of. Best practice is to listen before you dig, find the sweet spot. Enjoy.

It shouldn't be a problem. We have been replacing Bose Omnidirectional in a Shopping Mall with these. Some are near block retaining walls. The sound just bounces off the wall.. We are using 70 Volt option. The client likes them as much as Bose. They don't have as deep of a bass as the Bose but are about 15% of the price. Also, these have a wattage selection switch where Bose has Wires underground to match up. The first batch has been in over a year and so far no problems.

I'm in the northeast--can the speakers handle the winter? Or can I simply cover them with a trash bag or something to protect them from the snow? Disconnecting and storing inside is not ideal.

I have installed them in Ontario Canada, although we install speakers that are waterproof they have a tough time with freezing rain. We always recomnend bagging them and sealing bag with duct tape.

It could. It has threaded mounting holes in the bottom. You could screw it to a piece of plywood that you could attach wires and suspend it.

Are these speakers bluetooth daisy chain compatible?
A shopper
on Apr 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This is a passive speaker with internal amplifier. You can use it with a standard home stereo amplifier or AVR. It also has 70V capability for use in a commercial environment. You can daisy 2 on each channel of a home amp (2 left, 2 right) for a total 4Ω load. You can use the 70V power "taps" to daisy 10's or 100's of them for large public spaces.

Monoprice Commercial Audio 2-Way Omni-Directional Garden Speaker
Nice speakers for outdoors. Base response could be a bit better, but as long as you don?t blast them, they do a good job. Bought 4 of them and I?m more than satisfied with them for the $50 I paid per speaker.

Price is right and they sound awesome, wired them in front of my fence about 3 and about 25 apart. They create a surround sound with the omni coming off the fence. Get em!

Unbeatable for the Price
I have three of these in a patio area around the pool--the sound is great, always clear, never distorted. They get loud enough but the bottom end isn't as great as the Bose garden speaker.
Still, for the price, they're incredible.

Commercial 2-Way Garden Speaker
We operate a small historic village situated on 54 acres offering private events, B&B, reenactments and other public events. We are interested in expanding our outdoor music reach to include a Native American village and other areas. We presently utilize 4 Bose freespace 51 in addition to structure mounted Polk speakers. Our new plans include the purchase of 8 additional burial type speakers for field installation and due to our limited resources, we decided to try 4 Monoprice speakers. For the purpose of our testing (music quality is very important for us) we removed (and cleaned) all 4 Bose speakers and added the 4 Monophase speakers to an outdoor and indoor testing area. Our amp system allowed us to play individual or all 4/8 speakers at once or togeter. The most telling results came from the 4 Bose and 4 Mono speakers operating as a group. We have played primarely early American music, Native American songs and himns, classical music and even some contemporary selections. Unfortunatley for our budget, the Bose speakers excelled in nearly every area at different voulume. The main differences were the much more pronounced bass and the greater "luminosity", brightness and live presence of the Bose speakers, while the Mono speakers sounded much more muffled and less responsive both in the base and high tunes. You can really hear and feel the presence of the two separate speakers in the Bose units, while one tester commeneted the Mono sounded like it was powered by only one full-range speaker instead of a true two way. We used the speakers in a conventional amp setting 8 Ohm and not the 70Volt setting (not available on the Bose speakers) . Based on our tests, we will have to tighten our belt and invest in more 51's for our primary areas and will have to confine the Mono's to periferial areas. Further, we will need to add an in-ground burial type (Niles) sub to supplement them. Too bad, we really had high hopes for these speakers!

No brainer
Bought 6 of these along with the 240W 5ch 100/70V Mixer Amp (#18805) for the backyard. Loving it so far. Biggest selling point is that the 100/70v tap is built in (~$25 extra + more wiring on other speakers). So much easier daisy-chaining these together than running L/R wires all over the place. Bass is a little light, but I'm playing reggae and Jack Johnson so we're good.

2-Way Omni-Directional Garden Speaker
This is an unbelievable product for the money, flat eq sounds great but once you eq it, the speaker really puts out good sound, 8 ohms has some kick to it, 70v operation seems to work really well. I personally own it and a TOA-bg-1120 120 watt amp. i will buy another speaker soon. it has smooth frequency response from the deepest lows it can put out to the highest highs.
