Does it require an electrical box or can be screwed right to the drywall?

BEST ANSWER: No electrical box required since it's low voltage. As long as you don't get the hole too big, it can go directly on drywall though I might suggest using a low voltage frame in addition.

It would need an old work electrical box or an old work non electrical box installed in order for the screws to hold and it be secure. The non electrical old work box is basically a plastic frame that installs behind the drywall and has screw holes to receive the screws from this HDMI receptacle. This is very inexpensive and is what I used and would recommend.

I placed it directly on the drywall, and it holds pretty well. Drilled the smallest hole I could to drive the screw, and it fits well.

Can this be used with cat6 ethernet cable?

BEST ANSWER: You can use a cat6 cable but the speeds would only be the highest that cat5 can go since that’s what’s in the wall plate port.

My 3D Samsung TV does not have a COAX input, only HDMI, and I want to use this to connect an external antenna (via COAX to HDMI). I don't see anything other than this plate that may be able to do this conversion. Is it possible to loop the HDMI to the COAX (since all of the external antennas come with standard COAX connectors)? I want to drop my cable company's box, but don't want to give up my awesome TV.

BEST ANSWER: This will not solve your problem this adds an hdmi port in the wall to drop a hdmi from your tv/projector into the wall. You might want to look for a COAX to HDMI cable or adapter

I plan to use this in a run from my PC, through a generic short HDMI cable, through wall plate #12097, through the wall with the 50ft version of this cable, and out with wall plate #7332, and then another short cable into my TV. Will that work? Or does the fact that this is an active cable mean that it needs to be directly connected between the source and TV without intermediate cables/connections?

BEST ANSWER: I must admit the largest HDMI cable I have used in your type of scenario was a 20'. So supposing that there is no loss of signal from a 50' cable there is no reason why what you're proposing won't work.

Easy to hook up
It's easy to hook up to the push-connectors on the back. I hooked up the source coax on the back of room 1 plate to connect to an internet gateway; ethernet out of the gateway, plugs into the front plate in room 1, ethernet is patched from the back of plate 1 to the back of plate 2 in the other room. I hooked up a patch cable for the hdmi in case I need that for future use.

3 in one combo plate
Wall plate has Hdmi, coax and ethernet pass-thru connectors. I had to buy a 90 degree HDMI adapter to plug in a Hdmi cable in wall.I also needed to purchase a short ethernet cable to connect the ethernet cable in wall to a pass through connecter in wall plate.

The Perfect Wall Plate for Mounting Televisions
This is a great wall plate. With it I?m able to give my clients a great looking connection for everything they need to make their television installation look ?wireless?. You can?t find a product similar to this in the box stores. The ones they do have would cost three times or four times as much and only have two types of connections..
