Will this converter transmit audio from the HDMI?
New User U
on Feb 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have multiple converters and all of them seem to do this, I have not tested the audio on this specific unit, but I can say it likely will. I am a broadcaster and the HD-SDI/3G-SDI standard and HDMI are almost identical. The HDMI has HDCP for copy protection added in and HDMI has no VANC (Vertical Ancillary) to carry Closed Captioning. The HANC (Horizontal Ancillary) is where that carries the Digital audio of up to 16 channels in SDI.

BEST ANSWER: As far as I know, they can stay on 24/7/365. There is a small circuit board inside that draws little power. Usually the wall wart power supply dies first. Both units need to be kept cool. Don't put them in an enclosed space.

Monoprice HDMI to 3G SDI Converter

Monoprice Mini HDMI to 3G-SDI Converter
BEST ANSWER: Yes.
Use RG6 Quad Shield, what monoprice stocks works, you can also use bulk coax from home improvement stores. 1080p allows you 100 meters, I've stretched that to 150 meters and had it work.
Make sure you use 75ohm BBC connectors, 50 ohm are more common and won't work right.
Biggest complaint with these units is that if the video is switched or turned off and back on you sometimes have to power cycle the converter.

Yes, it will work exactly as you propose. I've used both the regular and mini versions on both ends. If you have any issues, make sure you're using good connectors and crimping them properly. This setup will carry audio, too. There are maximum RG6 cable runs, but they're around 300 feet.

I have used several of these units for over two years without any flickering problems. The only problem I have encountered is they don't like getting hot. Try bypassing the splitter and see if the problem goes away. If not, it is most likely the HDMI to SDI converter failing.

can it be powered from the tv usb?
New User U

BEST ANSWER: Looks like it is 5V but needs 2A. Most USB ports are 500mA to 2A, so you would want to check your TV manual on if it could provide that much current. I doubt this unit actually pulls that much. Likely what its PS is rated for. Switching supplies are regulated and not always is full current used.

How long is the video frame delay from HDMI to SDI output?
Alex N
on Jun 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That depends on what you are running the SDI output into. I am running in to a Blackmagic Quad 2, then into a PC, and outputting to projectors. My total latency is 4 ms - that's it. Barely noticeable. From my experience, there is virtually no latency from the converter itself.

What does "HDCP compatible" mean? To be compatible with the spec, it should reject (i.e. not convert) HDMI content that is HDCP encrypted. Is this thing claiming to pass HDCP encrypted content? If so, that means it's effectively an HDCP stripper. Which is cool, but how do they get away with it?

I want to extract stereo audio from HDMI maybe with this SDI converter. I understand the SDI outputs have video and audio. How do I split the signals for input to a DAC or stereo input? Greta Dual Output converter
I have a HDMI pattern generator that I needed to send signals to HDSDI monitors and this dual output unit works well. I put a known SMPTE Bars Test Signal thru the device and all the levels are true to the HDMI output level confirmed on both waveform and vector scopes. At this price I bought 2 just in case one fails. Currently you can't go wrong on this purchase.

Works great for some applications
I got a couple of these for feeding HDMI to a video switcher that needs SDI. I can feed a monitor with it but the switcher doesn't recognize it. I have a mono Price Product # 14532 that is twice the price but does work. I Highly recommend the more expensive unit It's a 5 star!

Works with almost everything
One of the SDI connectors came loose on the first use. I took the unit apart to tighten the retainer nut and found a broken snap ring. No way to re secure the connector except to solder it to the frame.
OK, that fix worked and the event went well.. Now we find that if you run the Monoprice converter HDMI to SDI and then use another Monoprice converter to bring SDI to HDMI back again, some monitors will not see the signal. The ACER S11HL is such a monitor. Something happens in the boxes that these monitors do not like. All of the rest of our monitors are happy. The signal is 1920x1080P @ 60hz. On a distribution amp we can split the output and view the images on other monitors, but not the ACERs. Unfortunately we have six of the ACER S11HL monitors.

HDMI to 3G-SDI
Works perfectly and looks amazing. It's important that you have the resolution of the device feeding this one set to the monitor's resolution. I used this on a laptop and had to make sure the laptop's output was set to 1080i. It doesn't change resolution by itself. But if you are just watching a BluRay on an SDI monitor, you'll be fine.

Quality at a reasonnable price
We bought this HDMI to SDI to repace one that had failed after a few years of intense usage. The quality of monoprice products is comparible to other brands and works perfectly in our KH. The shipping was fast to Canada without any surprises. Will buy again directly from Monoprice.
