RS-232 claims a limit of 50 ft, or a cable length equal to a capacitance of 2500 pF.

Eventually gets the job done
Overall it got the job done but it took a lot longer than I was expecting to get everything together. Very difficult to remove the pins after inserting them into the db9, so don't make a mistake when configuring your pinout. Also, my particular pinout (cisco console cable) required two of the pins to go to ground, so I had to remove a pin from one of the wires and solder it to the outside of the other pin. Would have been nice if there was an easier alternative for that situation.
PROS: Sturdy design, quality parts.
CONS: Pins don't come back out of db9 easily. No simple way to tie two wires to the same pin.

Useful fair quality
[Minor rev to previous review]
These generally seem to be about par with similar types I have used in the past. My only criticism is that the gold plating on the D-sub pins looks very thin (based on color - this is VERY subjective). It is probably "gold flash", which is better than no gold at all, but not by much. Typically such connectors have a mating-unmating rating of about 15 cycles (a really good quality D-sub will be rated for 500 cycles). I't really isn't possible to have very low cost AND heavy gold plating.
~~~
Color coding of the wires corresponds to that often found in 8 conductor flat telecom cable and surface-mount 8P8C jacks:
1 Blue
2 Orange
3 Black
4 Red
5 Green
6 Yellow
7 Brown
8 White (sometimes grey)
(this color coding is common, but by no means universal)
WARNING! A review of similar part (PID 1152) notes that color coding of wires may vary from lot to lot.
PROS: Inexpensive. Decent quality of molding of plastic parts.
CONS: Gold on D-sub pins looks very thin.
Great for making a connection work
This adapter works beautifully. I have a projector that I need to communicate with serially. I've got phoenix connectors on my control device and a DB9 to propriety connection on the projector side. In between I'm running CAT5 and needed to adapt from RJ45 to DB9. In comes this piece...perfect!
Would have been nice to have a pinout labeled, but a multimeter solved the problem quickly.
PROS: Easy to work with. Connection seems sturdy and reliable.
CONS: Would have been nice to have a pinout diagram.
