How ESD-safe or not is the foam and the plastic? I'd like to build an electronics prototyping/project enclosure using this, so it would have exposed PCBAs and/or breadboards inside.
New User U
on Dec 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: it is not Esd safe at all. As a certified Esd Instructor the foam is non conductive so it will have a static filed on it probably in the range of 8000 to 15000 volts reading on an ESD Meter the case also is non conductive plastic so it will hold a charge as well. Even if you used conductive black foam which would keep the board safe, being in the non conductive plastic case will expose the board in a static filed. If the board was in a conductive static bag the board would be totally safe however you cannot take it out of the bag while near the case. In any case you could not power it up How this helps Frank ESD Instructor

That might not be such a good idea. It might have been because I was in socks on a dry day but I got zapped a time or two cutting out my foam and could feel the static on it. Even the left over little foam bits stuck pretty good to the remaining foam cavity from the static. Not a scientific experiment or anything, I wasn't trying to control for it, just beware.

Is this case big enough for a small DSLR (Canon Rebel T2i) and 2 lenses?

BEST ANSWER: Hello, this item's internal dimensions are 17.64" x 13.58" x 4.76" (448 x 345 x 121 mm). So as long as the dimensions of the cameras and lenses are within that size. Then this will fit fine. I hope this helps, and thank you for your question!

So my projector is 17x11x4.5. Do you think I'm cutting it too close with this case? Will I have enough foam around the edges to have at least some protection?
Mr. Invincible
on Jul 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You will definitely be cutting it very close with the amount of foam between the projector and the inner wall of the case. If you want to test it out and it doesn't work, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee. If the product you purchase does not satisfy your needs, send it back for a full refund.

So I've been thinking about buying several of the bird brand cases, however I saw this on Mass drop and the price is phenomenal, even if they performed to 70% of competitors brands. I want to use them to store my collection of headphones, mostly at home, not really using to travel. Perhaps once in a blue moon but mostly just at home storage to protect from dust, rabid dogs lol, and general wear and tear. If my widest cans are about 5in, would this size work well for headphones? Happy to spend the time tracing and making the foam as custom as possible. But wondering would you trust these with Audeze LCD4's, Focal Utopias, Vintage AKG 501's, some Grado, Some. Hifi an and a couple of others? Would the foam be relatively easy to cut to the approx shape of the cans (or I could just replace the foam) but would these cases be enough protection for just home storage? Your help is greatly appreciated. Also wanting one to store a few tube headphone amps, Woo WA7d, a few Little Dots et cetera. Again just for home storage to keep dust at bay and some protection from curious fingers and dogs!
Cheers

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
Customers often use these for travel so there would not be a problem using the for home storage only and the general consensus from customers seems to be that the foam is relatively easy to cut.

Just needs layers of foam instead of one giant brick
Great case, but the foam is just one giant brick, so it's not really that great for storing more than a single large item (like a laptop without its charger) or some narrow small items

Pelican quality at a fraction of the cost
I didn?t want to rebalance my gimbal which putting it in the manufacturer?s case would entail. So I searched for a case that had the dimensions of the balanced gimbal. Only Monoprice makes one. Having similar cases from Pelican, this is a quality case at a fraction of the Pelican price.

Super solid and affordable
The build quality and materials are top notch. I think anything I put inside will be well protected, safe and dry! Granted, I bought it at a great sale price that I couldn?t pass up, but even at full price, it rivals other name brand cases.
