What type of shielding is used?

I haven't opened it up but usually a cable like this has a braid for the ground.That will provide a certain amount of shielding.

Will this work for headphones that have a mic?

BEST ANSWER: No I don't think it will. Headsets with mics usually have a t/r/r/s plug. This is a t/r/s plug.

It might, I have two sets of earbuds, both with built in mic, that also acts as a controller, volume up & down, play ,pause, etc.......and this extension works with them. Considering the price, get it, if it doesn't work, they have a generous return policy that makes returns super easy.

Mine has a short in it but it says it's not eligible for a replacement. Not much of a lifetime warranty.?

BEST ANSWER: Short answer: no.
The number of gold sections on the 3.5 jack tell you if it can, 3 is for headphones, 4 sections include the microphone. So you need one with 4 gold sections, or 3 colored stripes.

Well built
Well built and works like a charm. Just what I was looking for in an extension. Do note however this is only going to extend audio left and right, if you have a mic or pause/play button on your headphones or such, those features will not be usable with this cord. I still recommend this product for anyone needing a solid extension for 3.5mm audio.
