HornetTek captures raw, progressive video well, at least to a Mac.
The device does a good job of capturing progressive HDMI signals up to 60 fps. Unfortunately, unlike some similar devices that i have in my kit, it is not backward compatible with 1080i video signals, until recently the only way to get 1080-line video from a camera at 1080 images per second. It delivers uncompressed video to the computer, so the job of encoding video for compressed recording falls onto your main CPU. This gives the option of high quality compression, but limits the number of devices that the CPU can support. Some capture devices provide compressed video to the computer to shift processing loads to the device. So i would recommend the device to anyone who wants to capture progressive video into a Mac, and who understands the trade-offs. (I didn’t try it with a Windows machine.)
