How can a device with maximum voltage and current ratings of 5 Volts and 2100 mA be rated at a maximum output power of 15 Watts when Power = Voltage x Current and max power should only be 10.5 Watts, if the voltage and current specs are correct?
    Daniel G on May 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your inquiry. The maximum Output Voltage and current rating via the USB-A Female port is 5V/2.1A which does equal 10.5 Watts of power. This 15W Solar Charger provides the ability to charge 2 devices at one time, and across these 2 ports, the Panel offers a peak power of 15W.
Do these have a charge controller/regulator built in?
    Karen H on Mar 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This solar charger will have a charge controller built in. It would be located in one of the flaps and will allow you to connect via USB. I hope this helps.
    How durable is this?
    AnSen S on Jan 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It feels quite rugged. The exterior material is stiffer than typical canvas. I would not hesitate to attach to a backpack or leave on a rock or ledge. That said, these are solar panels and none are indestructible. You don't have to baby it, but don't toss it around too much, either. Should last for years.
Can you daisy chain two or more of these together?
    Taylor M on Apr 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There is no way to do that, at least as it is designed and outfitted. There is a input jack for higher voltages along with a corded plug and the adapters to match almost anything at the other end of the provided cable. And there is a standard USB jack for 5v.
Does this have any sort of water proofing or resistance rating?
    A shopper on Oct 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If I had to, I'd say this solar panel is an IP31 for water and dirt resistance.

The outer canvas material is a tough plastic, nicely hydrophobic and tightly woven enough that no droplets should get through. The canvas material in the charging pocket is backed by a watertight layer of polyurethane sealant, but it's not possible to confirm this is used everywhere. Each solar panel is covered in a durable layer of plastic sheeting that's bonded quite tightly to the canvas around it.

The only real route water or dirt might access any sensitive electronics is through the charging pocket - the flap is held shut by a strip of velcro but the slot itself is totally open and the USB ports inside are just standard sockets. This may seem like a weakness, but in practice it's trivial to make sure this pocket is angled downwards and therefore leaves no way for water to enter.

As far as physical durability goes, I was pleased to find that the panels inside can flex and each square seems to be pretty tough. Wrapped in a layer of canvas that's tight but not directly bound to the sheathing gives it a good ratio of strength to flexibility.

I had some serious concerns about this unit getting jostled and flexed in a backpack, but after spending some time with it I'm quite confident that it can handle all the usual wear and tear of a camping trip.
Is this compatible with usb chargers for aa/aaa batteries?
    A shopper on Sep 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Assuming you have a USB charger that only needs a 5V/1.0A input then this would theoretically work. I am guessing you have a USB charger that you plug into your computer? Or connects to the charger that came with your cell phone? And give yourself tons of time to charge the AAs/AAAs - overnight won't be enough (see what I did there).
Can you use it on a wireless charger, my charger function isn't working and this would help?
    Bob C on May 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Assuming you are referring to a wireless charging pad: If your wireless charger utilizes a transformer at the other end of the cable (a little box that plugs into the wall), AND that cable can be disconnected from the transformer, then you should be able to plug the large USB end of the cable into this solar charger to power your wireless charging pad (and charge your electronic device).

If the transformer, cable and pad are all one unit then you will not be able to use this to power your wireless charging pad.
Does this have any kind of waterproof rating?
    New User U on Oct 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It has a symbol which indicates not to expose to rain.

    Excellent product!!!
I've never owned any solar-charging product before this, and I didn't want to set my expectations too high as far as how fast it would charge. I decided to test it this morning on my Samsung Galaxy 6 smartphone, which was down to 4% power. I turned the phone off, plugged it into the solar charger, which I placed in direct sunlight on my deck railing (late morning, end of September in New Jersey). I came back an hour and twenty minutes later, thinking if it went up 15-20% I'd be happy, but it was up to 84%!! Couldn't believe it! Got to 100% charge in an hour and forty minutes from when I plugged it in. This product FAR exceeds my expectations. Great job, Monoprice!

PROS: VERY fast charging, and seems like it's well-made with good materials. I'm extremely happy with this product.

    CONS: Have found none yet.

    Works great - good price
This item works as advertised. Placed it in the sun - used a DROK meter to determine power being provided (over 1.5 amps at 5V) and it was almost the same as a wall charger when I plugged in a phone or tablet. Would have no problem charging a phone, tablet (I tried a 10" samsung), or battery power banks. Much cheaper than the other ones available on Amazon. Make sure to keep the items you are charging out of the sun but keep all three panels in full sun - covering up one of the panels with my hand significantly dropped the amps.

    PROS: strong power output
    cheaper price
    monoprice customer service

    CONS: cant think of any

    Solar panel charger
First time to use it today. Charging up storage battery. Battery was down to one bar. It's been about 2 1/2 hours charging in some sun but mostly overcast and its up to 3 bars out of 4. Shouldn't be long now until it's fully charged. Faster than I expected especially with it being mostly overcast today. Very happy with its performance.

PROS: Works well even on a semi overcast day.

    CONS: None

    Good solar charger
Works like a charm, even on cloudy days. Charges large backup batteries fast I use for my iPad and phone when outdoors. I will order two more this week.

PROS: Easy to lay out, connect the cables to the two on-board USB and just "let it alone"

CONS: The pocket for the cable is way too small and not rain water tight... that needs improvement.

    Good Solar Charger
I used this charger on a cross country trip. It works best in direct sunlight for charging small electronics. I paired it with a back up battery from monoprice that I could charge during the day while doing my activities. It did take all day to charge but did the job. On a hike in Big Horn National Park, the sun was out and I was able to strap it to my backpack and charge my phone while hiking. It didn't charge it much during the hike due to being in and out of the sun, but the charge percentage did go up rather than down during the 2 hour hike.

PROS: Small and foldable with loops for affixing it to a pack or other object.

CONS: loops can come loose and I had to re-sew one that came undone.

    Worth every penny!
Ok here's the deal, i purchased this in anticipation of power going out here in San Juan Puerto Rico before hurricane Irma and Maria. Im so glad i received it just before the storms, Maria in particular, as its now two weeks since the storm and the power is still out. A true and real crisis situation here, the real deal. And every day im able to charge my phone, my bluetooth speaker which happens to also have a decent long lasting Led lamp for night use, as well as other things. The solar charger works perfectly!. Small compact and light for easy carry an travel. puts the concern about finding power sources at rest. shocks just about everyone who sees it., especially in this situation where power has been out since the storm.
Purchasing an inexpensive power battery pack should also be considered, As you can charge both items simultaneously, and have the battery ready in case of bad weather or night time charging. Just get it, for the price it a must. seriously.

    Great charger - Free energy!
This is a great charger. It's great to be able to charge those devices for free! I have used it to charge a Monoprice 8000mAh battery both inside in a window and outside. (I use this battery to charge either my iPhone or my iPad.)
When using inside in a cloudy day, a high pitch wining can be heard, but the device slowly charges.
When using outside in the same conditions, there is no noise and the charging proceeds well.
I am quite satisfied with this product at this point and would recommend it to others.

    PROS: Free energy
Easy to use, just unfold in a bright day, connect, and charge
    Easy to carry
Provides power without having to connect to the grid

CONS: Works better outside than inside on cloudy days
Nothing indicates that the device is water proof, so need to be careful when leaving something outside to charge

    Works as Advertised
I am very pleased with this product. The first time I tried it was a little early in the morning so it didn't work too well. About an hour later the sun was high enough in the sky that it worked great. Obviously this item works best when the sun is highest in the sky, and charges my cell phone as fast (if not faster) than a wall charger. It even works well on the dash of my car while I am driving.

PROS: Well made and works fastest at high noon.

CONS: A little expensive but the price of everything solar is going down these days

Bought 2 more after trying the first one
3 solar panels work great under sunny day, and still able to charge under cloudy day

PROS: great for outdoor, camping and off-roading. Now my kids won't use up all my power to charge their ipads

    CONS: None

You know how you’d hope that this would work during a camping adventure? That’s how it works. Love it. Charged 2 phones at once. It’s exactly what I wanted. Just a suggestion though, wait for a sale. Just to save a few bucks. Monoprice is like Kohl’s, never pay full price because it will eventually be on sale.
