Consider the specs for this carefully; I use 160° and 180° all the time with my induction cooktop; this one jumps from 140° to 212° with nothing in between? I would like to have 212° though; mine has 200°, then 220° and the latter is often too vigorous a boil with pasta.
    A shopper on May 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. There would be no other temperature settings in between 140° and 212°.

It says cookware up to 10.2" in size, but how much weight will the unit support? For example, a standard 8 qt stockpot for boiling pasta would weigh approx. 18lb when full.
    A shopper on Jun 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Strata Home 1800W Portable Induction Cooktop can support up to 30 lbs of weight.
Is this product UL Listed or Approved?
    A shopper on Jun 6, 2017
How large is the actual induction coil? If you have a large diameter pan with a thin layer of water (say 1/4 inch) how large is the actual simmering diameter? I have an induction burner of this size from another manufacturer (handles a 10"+ pan), but the induction coil is 4.5" or less in diameter. Great for soups, not great for consistent sear or stir fry.
    A shopper on Aug 17, 2018
Do you have to set the timer to turn it on? Can you leave it on to slow simmer soup stock overnight?
    A shopper on Oct 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The timer is an optional feature of the Strata Home 1800W Portable Induction Cooktop. You can set an appropriate temperature for a slow simmer soup.
Will this work aboard on 220 volts?
    Donald B on Nov 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: NO. This is for 110-120 volts AC only.
It is 1800watts but what us the Mc rating?
    A shopper on Feb 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I don’t know. It heated 6 qts of water quickly to boil shrimp and has had a cast irons skillet ready to pan fry pork chops in a short time.
What is the diameter of the actual induction coil?
    Nathan V on Jul 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: As the coil is not visible I can only take an educated guess of 10 inches.
Do you need to use specific cookware with the induction cooktop?
    Jesse C on Mar 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: As with all induction cooktops, the cooking pan or pot must be magnetic; thus the cheapest, steel cookware will do perfectly. Stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum will usually not work, but it depends on the specific alloy. For a quick test, just try touching it with a magnet! I find induction cooktops extremely versatile and quick for cooking material which is mostly liquid (soups) or with plenty of added water (boiling); it is of decreasing usability as the food becomes thicker. These boil water quicker than a microwave - I usually set a pot of water on one to boil when I begin to cook, and figure out what to do with it later! Don't set the power too high or you'll burn the bottom of the pot; if you do, clean it by boiling vinegar in it.
Is this cordless.... and battery-powered or chargeable?
    A shopper on Aug 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 120volt, plug into wall. Cordless/battery-powered would not put out heat or last.
Do you need to use specific cookware for the induction cooktop?
    A shopper on Mar 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is not the forum for a physics lesson as to the whys but the bottom line is induction cooking works because of the way that what we think of as electric power and magnetic power are interrelated. That being the case it will only work with ferromagnetic cookware such as cast iron or stainless steel. If a magnet will stick to it, it will probably work. Cookware made of glass, ceramic, copper, aluminum or non-magnetized stainless steel will not work.
How loud is the cooktop on Max Temp? I have a different model and the fan to keep it cool is VERY loud.
    A shopper on Apr 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The fan is noisy, not loud, but all fans are noisy. The thing I find annoying is the thermal protection shut off. It seems that when the unit is at 1800 (max) the heat is too great and the stove shuts down. But when it cools off, it should come back on. The design could be better if they could have a better feedback system. In general, I am quite happy with it. Good luck.
Can this cooktop also be installed flushed like a regular cooktop range on the counter?
    Gilberto S on Nov 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The cooktop is "not suitable" to be installed like that... but I did anyway.

I've had induction cooktops installed flush for years. The manufacturer might not warranty them to be installed like that, but the lip on the cooktop is wide enough to make it work.
How much weight can this support? Would it be safe to use with an 8 qt stockpot for boiling pasta? Approx 20 lb when full.
    A shopper on May 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Strata Home 1800W Portable Induction Cooktop can support up to 30 lbs of weight.
How long does the unit run without automatically turning off?
    Michael D on Feb 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We've had it simmering soup stock for hours on one of the lower settings without any sort of shut off. The only time it automatically shuts off is if you hit the on/off button and then don't follow that by pressing either the power button or the temp button. Also, if you remove the pot from the cooktop while the unit is on, it shuts off after a few seconds.
How long does the cooktop run continuously without turning off automatically? Is the timer merely a timer or does it power the unit for up to 4 hours then automatically turn it off?
    Michael D on Jan 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The timer does not shut off the unit, it is only a timer. As long as there is a pan detected it will run continuously.

Very Powerful but be cautious of control surface sensitivity.
This unit is way more powerful than the Tatung I've been using for over a year and has now taken on the primary role. It will bring a large pot of water to a boil quite quickly. The issue that one has to be careful of is the touch/capacitive control buttons. If you are stirring a delicate sauce and the pan happens to slide near the buttons it will change the settings easily and resulted in a burnt sauce for me on first use. I also unplug it when not in use as everyone has a habit of sitting things on it because it's never really hot enough to hurt anything and on a couple occasions items were set on the unit and it got turned on. Fortunately I was there so that we didn't have a glowing spoon or so forth. I also don't like that it continues to blink when turned off so for these reasons it gets unplugged when not in use which all kitchen appliances should be. I still decided to give it a 5 star due to it's power output and a little better control over temperature.

Great product, Great Price - What else is new?
I love fish and chips, but my house always smelled pretty rank for a couple of days after the fish-fry. Monoprice to the rescue. This cook top is powerful, convenient, easy to clean and very affordable. I use it outside with a small enameled cast iron dutch oven in the yard and voila!, no fishy smell in my home. In addition, my range stays spatter-free. Thanks again for another terrific product at a terrific price.

Curious about induction or want to have an extra element? Buy this one from Monoprice, none better
Arrived quickly and well packed. Attractive appearance and slightly larger top surface than expected. Controls are simple and effective. Amazed at how fast it boils water on highest setting hands heating levels are accurate. The cooling fan is obviously working when operating, but cools rapidly to keep it all working safely. Cleans easily, but would have appreciated a silicon cover or at least a suggestion as to buying one. Covers protect the glass without effecting function. Worth the price. I wanted to try induction before considering it as a full kitchen stovetop. This unit proved to me the change from gas to induction has its advantages.

    Solid product
I was a little suspicious when I first saw this, but decided to give it a try for two reasons - wanted to see how induction cooking worked before putting it in our new home, and (2) possibly using it in our RV - less heat generated.
I was totally impressed by the quality and functionality of this plate - far exceeded expectations. A wide variety of power settings, easy to use, and appears to function as any standard induction cooking system I've researched. I highly recommend!

    Induction Cooktop
Wow...this thing really works. Make sure you read the directions because the power settings are critical to the food you are cooking.

Great unit for a boat or RV.

    Easy to clean and store.

    Go slow and learn
I have always wanted to try the induction method and this was really affordable so I decided to give it a try. It has preset temps and of course I tried boiling water first and it was amazing. That worked so good I tried reheating rice and that is when I found out it will also burn food very fast. Put on lowest temp and watch carefully. It is very fast and I would recommend this product. I did find that much of my stainless cookware is not compatible but that the top of the line stuff such as All-Clad and Saladmaster were. Of course the cast iron worked great.

I hardly ever write reviews... but I'm making an exception for this brilliant product...
I've been using Monoprice Pro Audio equipment for a few years now, and have always been pleased.

I wanted to get a portable cooktop to still be able to cook meat on my cast iron skillet, but without dealing with the fumes/smoke throughout our home. So I started looking for portable cooktops. The problem? They're either too small of a cooking surface for my 12" skillet, they don't get hot enough, or they're too fricking expensive.

Well... Monoprice decided to go ahead and fix all of those issues with this beast. Seriously.... it's perfect. I've cooked burgers, chicken, and now delicious prime ribeyes on it - gets my cast iron skillet to the high heat level I need it to be at (in order to get that delicious dark brown crust). It still doesn't cook all the way to the edges of my skillet, but I don't know of ANY portable cooktop with a 12" cooking surface that's ANYWHERE close to this price range. Besides - it still gives me plenty of heat and cooking surface.

The best feature is it's magnet that will automatically refuse to heat unless the required cookware is on it - I love this. It's an excellent safety feature.

I haven't used the timer yet, but I'm sure it'll come in handy.

Another "best" feature is how easy it is to clean!! WOW. Seriously... I can't recommend this product enough.

I've used it a total of 3 times, and so far, it's holding up like a champ. Hopefully it lasts!

Very Pleased - Better Than Electric, Almost As Good As Gas
This unit has earned a semi-permanent place on my electric stove top. I have actually yanked out one of the conventional heating elements and set this bad boy up to be used for every-day cooking. Prior to this, I had never tried an induction burner before, but when this went on sale for $36 shipped, I knew it was time to give it a go. At that price, it was worth the risk.
It heats up REALLY fast in comparison to my conventional element, but does not get quite as hot as the one it replaces. My biggest complaint with conventional electric stoves is the slow reaction time to temp changes. That leads to a constant dance with pulling the pot off the element to more rapidly adjust cook temp. While this unit is not as responsive as gas, it is FAR better than what I am used to. I had to re-learn temp control, but it didn’t take long to get the hang of it.
I like the locking feature and the lack of physical buttons. It makes for a hassle-free experience without having to worry about the settings getting accidentally changed. No buttons means less places to worry about spilling food and keeping it clean is a piece of cake. If I could change one thing, it would be to flesh out the timer capabilities. I’d love for it to operate more like a kitchen timer than just a delayed off switch. Regardless, that’s a tiny item and not anything to get worked up about.
If anyone else is looking to dip their toe into this type of cooktop, I think this unit should be on your short list of candidates.

Great product at a great price!
This cooktop is excellent. I had been wanting to try an induction cooker for a while, so when this came up on sale for under $30, it was a no brainer. It is amazing how much faster and more efficient induction cooking is compared to a regular electric stovetop. The controls are very intuitive. I like that you can choose either a power level or temperature setting. It is easy to clean and store. Now I wish my actual stove had induction elements...

Amazing how powerful, how quick this heats up cookware, we turn it way down except when boiling water . Good way to experiment, see how much one likes induction cooking before buying a full induction stove.
