I have thick door molding. If the two pieces don't lineup will it still work?

BEST ANSWER: Enter an answer to this question.I would recommend that to attach a plastic mold to the door piece to offset the thick door mold. It doesn't have to be exactly lined up but it is important to test it out various times be sure it will notify it is opened or closed. You can find ideas for the offset in a hardware or craft shop.

You could place a spacer/shim under the door mounted piece so the two would align when the door is closed. The app will indicate open/closed when properly aligned. Easy to use double-sided mounting tape; device is lightweight.

It works. I think they work by magnetic sensor that detects changes in magnetic field. So a slight offset doesn't matter. It worked well enough with a .5 inch height difference.

They don't have to line up perfectly but there must be some overlap. I also have thick modeling and they work. I would say at least 50% of overlap should be ok.

It depends how much offset there is, but you can always add a spacer under one side, using some double sided tape.

Mount a hinge on the door, that will swing down when the door is up. (gravity). The hinge hangs down with the overhead door is down. Install the sensor on the hinge and the magnet on the door (or vise-versa). There is a video of the Hinge Hack. Search Youtube for "Hinge hack for Abode garage door open/close sensor".

It should work. All it does is detect when the two pieces are next to each other and when the connection is broken. Just make sure you install them tightly or you'll get a false alarm if one piece falls off.

We really appreciate your feedback. We have made improvements to the STITCH app yesterday to help identify which sensor was opened or closed in the notification whenever the device is triggered. The update should reflect on your app automatically. If not, please log out and log in again. Thanks for your comments again!

Currently it doesn't look like the App identifies the sensor in the notification, however you can go into the App and check the sensor's history or link the App the IFTTT and you can have an email sent whenever it opens/closes and that will show which one was triggered. I agree it would be nice to have the app identify the particular sensor in the notification.

Both this device and the Z-wave model use two AA batteries. Normally, Wi-Fi is a much bigger drain. However, this device includes auto-powerdown to minimize standby current; it transmits only when triggered or queried (via Wi-Fi). I've not received this device yet, so I cannot measure the standby current, but I intend to. In any case, placing this device on a door that is frequently opened will drain the batteries faster than on a more static door, unless you use the App to program it to Off/Stdby during high traffic periods. This device is strictly for indoor use, therefore easy to reach and simple to change batteries.

I'd like to wire an external reed switch rather than use the one built in; are there pin outs internally accessible?
Eric G
on Aug 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, once the rear cover is removed the battery tray can be popped out easily with a small flat head or spudger. The pcb assembly is attached to that, so it's all one unit. All components are surface mounted to the board except the reed switch. It is soldered at the side in a notch and very accessible. Replacing it and/or soldering to its contacts should be quite easy. You should also be able to easily make holes for wires to pass through the shell without interference to other components as the switch is directly on the side on the pcb.

What is accessible with the back off, is battery, tamper switch and reset switch. It does look like (based on separation all the way around) the you could pull the battery holder, as it snaps and is not molded together with the outer case. Guessing that would give you access..
The other side, which i assume is just the magnet, would require you to crack the case.. it's glued.

What is the activation distance? In other words, how close does the magnet and sensor have to be to register? Does the sensor "de-bounce" the signal? Or will it show multiple activations if you hover the sensor near the sensing distance? Is there any hysteresis effect in how it senses opening distance vs. closing distance?

STITCH by Monoprice Wireless Smart Door/Window Sensor; Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for Touchless Voice Control, No Hub Required
Monoprice Z-Wave Door and Window Sensor - (replacement sku is 15270)
STITCH by Monoprice Wireless Smart Door/Window Sensor; Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for Touchless Voice Control, No Hub Required (2-Pack)
BEST ANSWER: We suggest the sensor and the magnet should be mounted no more than 0.4" (10mm) from each other to register a signal. When the magnet and sensor comes close together you will receive a notification that the door is close. Once apart the device will register the door is open. If the you hover the sensor within the sensing distance it should read as a closed door unless it reaches beyond the sensing distance.

BEST ANSWER: You will need a stable 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi connection for STITCH devices. You can share the device to multiple users and anyone on the share list can view the same sensor.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
You could set up a scene using this device that would incorporate Alexa so you could receive alerts through it.

Supported by Samsung Smartthings hub?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
This is made to work with our Stitch application, Alexa, and Google Home.
It would not have Z-Wave compatibility so it would not work with a Smartthings hub.

Does NOT trigger Alexa routine
Alexa app sees contact sensor state OK but will not trigger routine.
Maybe this is why I got 2 for $9.99.
On Stitch app when "Smart" button is pressed the screen shows "No Smart related to the device.
Product number is 33048.
Product number 33049 costs 2 for 19.99. Maybe these will trigger Alexa routine.
What good is it if Alexa compatible does not rigger routine ?

App needs updates, but it solves the requirement
Its working as expected. There is a need of app update. However with alternative means it worked. The UI/UX is simple and easy to use

Didn't work for my application
I bought a pair of the door/window sensors for use on my (2) garage doors. I was hoping to replace my failing LiftMaster wireless monitoring system which has a receiver with a red LED and a red LED. Either door open = red LED, both doors closed = green LED. I usually glance at it before going to bed.
I got the Stitch units configured and the app installed without too many issues. The problem is that the app opens to a screen that list both sensors with the labels that I assigned, but doesn't indicate the open/closed status. In order to check the status you have to touch one of the listed sensors which brings up a status screen for that sensor where you can see open/closed/battery%. Then you have to < back to the home screen and do the same with the other sensor. With only 2 sensors it's not too bad, but it would seem to sensible to have the open/closed status displayed on the home screen device list. If you had a number of these sensors it would be very cumbersome to check them all.
I've reached out to Monoprice tech support, but they haven't offered a solution. I guess I'll be returning them, as I never got to the point of attaching them to the doors.

Functions flawlessly.
Was looking for a replacement for adt security system. Product performed as advertised. I now have a way to know if a door or window has been opened in the house. Tied in with alexa without issues. Initial purchase was for 12. Found I needed 10 more and immediately ordered more.
