    BEST ANSWER: The Sensor is 3 1/2" Long x 1" wide x 3/4" deep
Can anyone answer the Z-Stick S2 compatibility question?
    John H on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hello, thank you for your question. The Z-Wave Plus Door/Window Sensor is compatible with a wide range of Z-wave hubs/controllers including the Z-stick. I would recommend following the proper inclusion and exclusion process as stated in the manual specific to your controller in order to add the sensor.
This unit has the ability to have an external sensor, but that is disabled by default. I am not having any luck enabling the external feature. Has anyone else had any luck?
    Chad R on Sep 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I feel your pain... same issue here. Asked my s/w manufacturer and Monoprice for help... They pointed fingers. So I cut the existing relay out of the circuit and soldered in wires to my external switch. Hey, not pretty but it works.
The user manual included with the sensor has extremely small print, so is difficult to read. Is the manual available on-line?
    Steven K on May 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello, at the moment we do not have the manual available on our website. Feel free to contact our technical support team for further assistance in regards to obtaining the documentation via any of the methods available here:

Can these be used outside on a fence gate.? Will rain or the elements affect its operation
    A shopper on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Keep in mind though that batteries typically don't do well in cold weather. So the battery performance for the sensor will likely be poor if it gets cold. I don't have any specific numbers at this time, but it is something to keep in mind with battery powered devices that are outside.
Do these sensors support the S2 Framework? (Smartthings hub)
    A shopper on Jun 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This Z-Wave sensor would be compatible with Smartthings. I would recommend following the proper inclusion and exclusion process as stated in the manual specific to your controller in order to add the sensor.
I purchased two of these. The first switch installed as a generic z-wave switch. Has anyone else experienced this and I'm assuming a reset is the way to correct the situation?? That's my first issue. The second switch installed as a Z-Wave Plus Door/Window Sensor as it should. But it appears open in SmartThings when it's closed and closed when it is open. How do I correct that? I'm using a v2 SmartThings Hub. Thanks in advance for help on both of these.

Will this work with a Piper system?
    A shopper on Dec 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't have a Piper system, but since Piper utilizes Z-wave it should work just fine as a door/window sensor.
Does the internal board have connection points to allow connecting existing prewired sensors?
    A shopper on Jul 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, although I would say not "poke out" a piece of plastic but likely use a drill and be REALLY careful not to drill into the sensors. The plastic is reasonably thick and has to be removed to put the wires into the contact connections. I will say, the connections are great and very secure but you need precision screwdriver for the screws.
Does this device have battery monitoring.. Or whether it reports that the battery is low?
    A shopper on Jun 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm using it with Smartthings and I do get notifications when the battery is low. Normally at 10%.
Does it have any sound/beep/audio ?
    A shopper on May 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No sound. There is a light on the unit, but the way I have it setup I do not see it.

If you wanted it to emit a sound you could likely come up with something via triggers in you z-wave hub, but I don't have any details more than that.
Can these be used on garage doors to tell if they are open or closed?
    Ajay A on Aug 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes it can be used on garage doors. But make sure you get a zwave signal out to your garage. You might need a repeater or plug in module to expand you zwave outdoors.
Hi does this item has the feature to monitor the battery life or whether to report that the battery is low?
    A shopper on Jun 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: yes, you can have the device report its battery status. It depends on the platform and the device handler too.
Do these work as repeaters in a z-wave plus setup? I've seen conflicting information that battery operated z-wave plus are not repeaters.
    David F on Feb 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No. Battery operated devices don't act as repeaters due to the detriment it would have on said battery life.
What is the difference between this item # 15270 and #24259?
    A shopper on Dec 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: One obvious difference is the battery used to power the sensor. #15270 uses 1x Lithium 123 battery, while #24259 uses 2x AAA Alkaline batteries.
What is the connectivity range in feet?
    Neal R on Aug 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My device is in a mailbox (non-metal) at about the same range... maybe a little more. It worked pretty well at first and then ... not so well. I ended up placing another Z Wave plus outlet near the front door to act as a repeater. That seems to have solved the problem. WALLS can be your problem and the range will depend upon the material and density of everything between the last repeater and the switch... hope this helps. OH YESS, the THEORETICAL range you will see listed a 100 meters. But this is open air best case conditions.
    can this be painted/stained?
    New User U on May 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Sure, with the right kind of paint. It should not contain lead.
Any one had any luck using with Wing hub (V1)? Shows up as generic Z-Wave device and does not report open or close. Contacted wink and was told it was not a compatible device.
    antonio c on Apr 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If you mean Wink hub, I have had no more luck than you. Too bad, since the equivalent tilt sensor I use on my garage door works great.
What is the maximum distance you can have between the sensor and magnet?

    DOES work with external switches/sensors
I almost didn't purchase this because of the review that said the external switches didn't work, but I'm glad I did because if your controller supports changing configuration parameters, the external switches/sensor can be enabled.

The last page of the manual explains that the External Sensor is disabled by default, but it can be enabled by changing configuration parameter 0x01 to 0xFF. (0x00 is disabled)

It's really easy to miss that sentence because it's no where near the instructions for using the external sensors.

The other confusing part about the External Sensor is that when it's enabled, the device will not report closed unless the normal sensor and external sensor are closed. Opening either sensor will cause it to switch back to open, but both sensor report the same message so there's no way to determine which one opened.

SmartThings users can use the Community Created Device Type Handler called "Monoprice Z-Wave Plus Door/Window Sensor", created by Kevin LaFramboise, to enable/disable the external sensor, change the wakeup interval, and utilize the Tamper Alert capability.

    Doesn't work with external switches
This sensor, like the non-plus version it replaced (PID 10795) and the non-plus garage door sensor (PID 11987), has terminals inside to connect an external switch and instructions on how to use it in this fashion. A common use case would be to add z-wave functionality to existing wired reed switches many houses have from legacy security systems.

Unlike those other Monoprice z-wave sensors, the terminals on these don't actually work. I ordered 4 and none read "closed" when the terminals were shorted. Monoprice replaced them with four new ones, none of which worked either.

Product support then confirmed that this was a design issue and should be updating the documentation accordingly. They said a redesign would be unlikely.

So be warned if you want to use the terminals inside these new z-wave plus sensors as they aren't functional.

Otherwise, the sensor worked with the included magnet as expected. Can't speak for the "plus" features as I didn't hold on to them long enough to evaluate battery life and I have no range issues with my existing sensors.

    Work as Expected
I got 10 of these to put on the windows and doors on my house and connected them to a Vera Plus Controller and trigger an AEOTEC Door Bell and Siren. I wish Monoprice sold more Z-Wave products because the selection here is quite limited but the prices are very good as expected from Monoprice. After Inclusion in my system I came to find out that they are actually Vision ZD2102US-5 senors which are sold elsewhere for $20 more. I've installed all 10 and all 10 work great!

PROS: The first one was included (paired) quickly and after that I knew which one they were which made pairing the remainder even quicker. They work as expected and trigger the bell and alarm..

CONS: Came back to buy more and they're OOS. Guess I bought them all!?

Works on SmartThings after a little frustration
The sensors connected to SmartThings on the first try. Unfortunately, the devices never registered as closed. After a little trial and error, I deleted the devices from SmartThings Hub, then started over. The second try allowed the devices to connect and show open/closed. Overall, satisfied for the money.

    PROS: Cheap
    Nice build
    Works with SmartThings

CONS: A little frustrating to connect, but works at the end of the day

    Works great with Smartthings
Very easy to pair with Smartthings.... One note though, I saw comments stating that people were able to pair the sensor but then could not get it to show the closed command (the open/close reporting was not working). To fix this you must remember to snap the back of the sensor together before trying the open/ close with the magnet, there is a tamper switch inside the sensor that must be closed in order for the reporting to work.

    Works exactly as expected
I got these to put on my closet doors, so the closet lights will go on when I open the closet, and turn off when I close the closet. They work perfectly with about less than a second delay.

Good Product; Requires Tech Savvy; Challenge Integrating
So I'm very tech savvy and have used x-10, insteon, and now z-wave with various controllers. I'm using these D/W sensors for their external switch capability tied into multiple NC D/W sensors (in series) for DIY security setup using VeraPlus controller. In short -- they work with the VeraPlus -- both primary and the normally-closed external, secondary contacts -- but -- it took (and still is taking) lot's of research to make them work perfectly.

First, this was key for me -- and I had to search the internet a lot to find this -- to "enable" external contacts this is the instruction: "I managed to get the external reed switch working on a Vera Plus (UI7) but not by adding a variable, instead going to "Device Options" and the "add configuration setting" adding variable 1 as a 1 byte decimal and value=255 (instead of the default 0) - saved changes then had to wake it up by taking the cover off and it worked." This worked and external contacts now work. Once all this was done, the unit shows open and closed status well.

Also though, I didn't need the main D/W sensor, so I took out the magnet from the plastic case and glued it to the spot where the magnet is supposed to be lined up to make the primary switch permanently closed, leaving only the functionality of the external switch N/C contacts. This worked well.

Final issue I haven't solved is that when using this device in scenes to ring a chime (door open or closed) the chime rings 2 to 3 times instead of one quick chime. Since I use another D/W sensor model (close but not identical GoControl Z-Wave Door/Window Sensor - WADWAZ-1) that this does NOT occur with I don't know why the Monoprice one rings multiple times. I continue to research but other than for chimes, it's not a problem -- and likely to trigger an alarm it won't be either.

In short, recommended with caveats -- all of this is too hard for the average consumer IMO and should be much easier to use.
