Unfortunately, that isn't the only problem. One of the ear pieces will drop in volume during my long run. I don't know if it is because of sweat (moisture) gets inside the unit or on the speaker (driver) but certainly at a certain point it sounds like someone has shifted the 'balance' over to one side. I've tried changing out the ear buds to the larger set (3 sets are included: Small, Med, & Large with the Mediums installed when shipped). No improvement was noticed with the largest set of buds installed (I was hoping to get a better seal to keep more moisture out).
To the units credit, they have started working properly again when I leave them out to dry for around 48 hours (in sunlight and in a house with AC (low humidity)). I do wonder how long it will take until the connections inside the unit corrode from the salt in my sweat and they stop working.
Battery life seems decent out of the gate. I don't know how fast the battery life will deteriorate since I won't be using these for any long runs. FWIW: I run about 30 minutes 3 mornings a week and about 90-115 minutes every other weekend.
I've been very happy with every other MonoPrice branded item I've purchased. I'm so sorry that I can't possibly recommend these to endurance athletes.
PLEASE NOTE: In the first few photos of the earbuds, you can't really see what I'm talking about (it's slightly more visible in the last photo). Please take into consideration that the memory wire has to wrap out front, over, and then behind your ear for these buds to fit correctly. So, while the control bar *might* seem to be plenty far away from the earpiece, it isn't.
By all means, if you:
Live in a cold climate
Don't wear these while exercising
Don't sweat much (light intensity, not keeping up on hydration, etc...)
then these might be a great match for you.
Also, please note that I bought these very early on. Perhaps they will fix later versions.
PROS: Very fair price
Decent sound quality
CONS: NOT sweat proof. The specs say:
Water Resistance: Up to 10 liters/minute for 5 minutes
Maximum Water Pressure: 21.7 psi (150 kPa)
I can't possibly exceed those numbers!
PROS: Great sound. Bluetooth A++. Comes with an extra chord, earbud sizes and useful clip.
CONS: I wish the wrap around things had a little less flex.
PROS: Sound great, fit well.
CONS: Drop outs.
Once out of the box, I easily paired them with my phone. I spent a few minutes working with the memory wire to adjust them to my ears. The wire was relatively easy to work with and maintained it's shape. To "lock" the buds in my ear, it took a slight twist. They remained in place throughout my activity without requiring further adjustment.
The sound quality was very good - better than one should expect for Bluetooth headphones priced at under $30. I was somewhat surprised by how the earbuds sealed out external noise. In some cases, I recognize that this is a plus. When exercising outdoors, however, it can be disconcerting. Be aware of this when using them yourself.
I expected to experience some ear fatigue after wearing them for an extended period. I was happy to discover that this was not the case. They remained comfortable after 90 minutes of continuous use. They are so lightweight that you might forget you have them on.
I placed one call using the microphone on the headset. The recipient indicated she could hear me but that it picked up a lot of background noise. The microphone is placed in the controller, which one will generally wear behind the neck. Placing the controller (and cord) in front would probably improve the experience. As a note, I did not purchase this unit intending to utilize it as my day-to-day Bluetooth headset for phone calls therefore, this does not impact my rating.
I highly recommend this product to folks looking for comfortable Bluetooth earbuds to complement physical activity.
Excellent sound quality for the price point.
CONS: The seal on your ear may make it difficult to hear external sounds, which is not unexpected with earbuds.
The quality of the microphone could be better however, this is a secondary feature and would not have impacted my purchase.
PROS: Seems sturdy and I like the design.
Plenty of low-end.
CONS: Bluetooth stream quality is bad.
Connection quality is bad.
CONS: connectivity issues when music source is in my pocket
When fitted correctly they sound amazingly powerful and also cancel out a lot of background noise.
Very highly recommended!
PROS: "Normal" USB charging port
Good battery life (4+ hours of near constant play time before they run out)
Good fit with comfortable tips
CONS: Track skipping isn't easily controlled from the built in Play/Pause button
Sound is amazing and very bassy. I would have to imagine that it is similar to jaybirds or other expensive Bluetooth earbuds.
The design is interesting and seems pretty solid. There is a blue/red LED that tells you the status of the device.(on, off, or pairing) I have one complaint here however, and that is while I was inspecting them before use the mesh wire that covers where the sound is released was barely connected and was hanging off. I doubt this will be an issue and it was the only flaw in the build I found.
Performance while running:
I have yet to run with these, but the flex cable feels like if you tweak it enough it shouldn't have an issue staying in your ear.
PROS: Sound Quality
CONS: Only flaw so far was the mesh hanging off.
The sound is what sealed the 5-Star rating for me! The highs are crisp, and the lows are impressive! The waterproof feature is a plus, but I would not really bet on it too much. The battery life is great too. I can likely get 4+ hours of play out of them. Truth be told, I have not run them out of juice yet.
If these were at a bit of a lower price point I would give them 6-Stars! :)
PROS: Durable construction
Battery life is on point
CONS: The mesh on the earbud is hanging off
Mic not great from behind and not comfortable in front
PROS: Sound quality, price, build, light weight, multiple sized ear plugs, ambient noise supression, and plenty of volume.
CONS: some dropouts, the controls take some getting used to.
