Questions and Answers
Are these pure wireless or can I use these with a standard headphone jack?
How long do these stay charged from constant use?
Are these durable? I would be using them for 8 Hrs a day, 5 days a week in an office setting.
Durable I went running with them and they are extremely comfortable
Quality oozes out of them. The sound, the look, the feel. Really high end.
They fold nicely, and in such a way that they won't easily be damaged if they are stuffed into a backpack or suitcase. The hinge also seems very sturdy.
The ear pads are a very high end material. Seems very durable, yet very comfortable. The ear pieces have a hinge to flex to fit your end. This hinge doesn't flap around. Its very damped, moves with hydraulic fluidity. It stays put with where you've adjusted it. The headband is metal (stainless steel?), and also acts as the spring to keep them fit to your head. They exert just the right amount of pressure. Enough to make they very secure on your head, and to seal well to lock out noise, lock in sound, but very comfortable. You don't feel like something is pressing them down on your ears. Its almost like they aren't even there. With no cord to get in the way, just further enhances that not really there feel.
These things are a joy to wear, and a joy to listen to. I did list some cons, but these are more annoyances. they don't take away from the core value of these things.
PROS: Terrific sound
Very adjustable to fit your head
Folds well for transport
Bluetooth, OR cable, works with everything
high end look and feel
Adjustment stays in place
CONS: The first time I unfolded them, the hinge pinched my hand (ouch!)
The big buttons on the side don't have any way to ID them by feel (but eventually you get used to ID'ing them by location)
When you adjust volume, they make this loud, annoying beep for each step up or step down
They interrupt your listening to pronounce that the battery charge is at Medium, or Low, etc, and it seems like there is an abnormally long pause as part of the interruption which I find disruptive.
The button to turn on/off has a red light or blue light flash to indicate which action you just took, and the flash also lets you know when you've held it down long enough for that action to occur. Except this LED is in the center of the button, which is covered by your finger that is pressing the button. So its very difficult to notice the flash. So sometimes its difficult to tell when you've held the button down long enough.
There is no easy way to tell if they are currently on, or off (OK, yeah, if sound is coming out they are on. But if no sound, is that because they are off, or because something is wrong with them, or with your music device, etc, so you assume they are just off, so try and turn them on, except maybe they were already on, and you just turned them off, but you can't tell either way because when the LED your finger is covering flashes, you can't see it to tell!)
If I could be guaranteed that they would not shut down anymore I would keep them. Enjoyed the heck out of these headphones. Great deal for the price.
PROS: Nice balanced sound. Bluetooth connection is easy. Very comfortable after wearing for a long tim.
CONS: Obvious defect. Repeatedly shutting down although battery level is at 90%. Bass could be a lot better. Need to be able fell the on/off button.
The main criticism I saw was lack of bass. They are actually fine in this regard. My go to song to test out new sound equipment is My Morning Jacket's Wordless Chorus. The opening bass line sounds good. The high's and lows are nicely balanced on these headphones. They remind me of studio headphones with their balanced sound.
No these will not rattle your head like awful Beats headphones. They will sound great with just about everything you put through them.
My only complaint there is just enough room for my big head. I tend to wear the second largest of the profit size you might find at Lids or another store. So if you have a big head, these may not work for you.
PROS: Build Quality
CONS: Just big enough to fit my my head. It's like an orange on a toothpick. I'll probably cry myself to sleep on my wee pillow thinking about how large my head is.
The great people at Monoprice sent me these headphones for review (full disclosure) but they didn’t send any Goa’uld symbiotes, so all thoughts are my own!!
Ok, let’s dive into the review, shall we?
LIGHTWEIGHT: These headphones are very lightweight without losing the feel of being sturdy. I used to have trouble with the band of headsets bruising my head. I would develop migraines during long streaming sessions because of the pressure my old headsets would put on my skull. This was worsened by normal wear over time on some headsets with two bands as the inner, supporting band would lose its elasticity and cease to support the weight of the headset. I was even forced to switch to earbuds, which ended up bruising the inside of my ears over long periods of gaming. I know, I’m a fragile flower. I’m actually severely anemic and bruise incredibly easily, so this was a huge issue for me. These headphones don’t have that problem. I love the single band design & the fact that it is reinforced by metal leaves me confident that the support won’t deteriorate in the same fashion as the previous headsets I’ve used.
ROTATING EAR CUPS: I’m not a fan of complete noise cancellation or isolation. I hate feeling like I’m under water. What I’ve done in the past was angle the headset so that the right ear cuff sat either in front of, or behind my ear so I could hear myself talk and any outside noises that might be important (oven timers, for instance, so I don’t burn my house down :P ) When I switched to earbuds, I’d have to leave one out completely. Even the wrap around earbuds for sports and jogging wouldn’t stay put when hanging over the shell of my ear. The great thing about these headphones is that the cups are able to be rotated slightly, presumably to accommodate different head shapes, but in this case, I can adjust my right cuff to let outside sound bleed in just enough that I can still hear beeping timers and not feel like I’m underwater when I’m speaking to my stream. It also allows me to keep surround sound on in games so I can tell when the enemy is behind me on the right instead of having to guess. Super helpful for 1st person shooters.
BUILD QUALITY: The hinges for the folding mechanism are not loose & feel very strong. I don’t take these headphones with me when I travel, however, so I can’t speak to their portability. Although, I do sometimes fold them up when leaving them on my desk at night to take up less space. These headphones also adjusted well to my smaller head, but I could easily see someone with a larger head or ears having trouble with finding a comfortable fit for them.
LOW PRICE POINT: I mean, c’mon. This speaks for itself, right? If you’re looking for decent sound quality, a sturdy build, AND the added perk of Bluetooth, you can’t beat this price with a stick!
CONS: (More aptly “Recommendations”)
3.5mm CABLE LENGTH: I don’t use the Bluetooth functionality as I don’t need to, and I can’t stop my stream to charge my headset if the battery runs out. I keep my headphones plugged in through the included wire. I DO like that the wire is flat and made of no tangle material, that’s a big bonus. My only complaint is that it is not very long. I have to plug it directly into my keyboard to be able to wear them while plugged in. They would probably be fine plugged into a laptop. I have, on a few occasions, reacted to a game or movie more strongly than these headphones allow and jerked back past the short 4 foot cord. I DO, however, appreciate that the cable is not 8 feet long. As the headphone jack is on the side of my mouse hand, a longer cord is easier to snag in quick movement, but again, the cable has popped out during some pivotal & certainly emotional moments. I’d recommend a solid 5 feet. In Monoprice’s defense, however, the fact that the cord detaches from the 3.5mm jack in the headset when stressed in this way prevents it from ripping the cord. I am thankful that I haven’t had to go buy a new cord, though, now that I think about it, I could remedy this con easily by purchasing a separate cable that’s 5 feet long. Something to consider.
**I did end up getting a pink 6ft 3.5mm cable & it seems to have fixed the issue. Good to know!!
To round out my review: I know I can’t attest to the Bluetooth portion of these headphones, but if you have a smaller head like I do, wear your headphones for a long period of time, and can’t stand how heavy other headphones are, these may be the headphones for you. So far, they’re the headphones for me! Another job well done, Monoprice!
Ear cups rotate
Low price point
CONS: 3.5mm cable is very short & comes out easily
But, I wish I could easily switch from one device to another. I have it paired with my PC and my Nvidia Shield TV and depending on which I want to use, I have to re-pair them. It's not a huge deal but if I'm missing how, could someone enlighten me?
High Build quality
no sound leakage.
CONS: have to re-pair moving from one device to another even though it is paired with them
PROS: Super comfortable
Very good build quality
CONS: Light bass
Elevated upper midrange and lower treble
Lacks tactile feedback for the multifunction play/pause/call button
PROS: You really can't beat the price and the build quality of these headphones. This is the second pair I bought now for a family member and we are both very happy with them.
CONS: My only knock against them would be the battery and the notifications it gives when the power is at medium, and a low. A simple beep would have probably sufficed.
Never has a headset brought me joy the way this particular headset has. Starting from when the headset arrived, I immediately popped it onto my too-large-for-regular-headsets head and watched as the world around me faded away. I work in an office where there is a constant droning noise that I didn't realize was bothering me until I put these on - they simply make the sound melt away, until there's nothing but you and what you're listening to. This was incredibly (and pleasantly) surprising to me as I've only ever experienced such complete, non-powered, sound dampening from a very expensive headset that I own.
Sound dampening aside, the other features on this headset are also terrific. The bluetooth never had any trouble connecting to my phone, even after repeated connect-disconnect-connect rampages on my part. And unlike several other headsets I've owned in the past, when the battery runs out on this one, you can still handily use it as a passive set of really great headphones. Speaking of the battery, it lasts and lasts and lasts. Subjected to multiple workday play sessions of up to 4-5 hours at a time, my phone reported only about a 20% drop in battery, which is on par with some of the best wireless bluetooth speakers I've ever had.
I have nothing but effusive praise for this headset, the complaints I have are rather minor. With a few design tweaks, the on/off button on the side could be converted to a switch which would be much appreciated for usability. Also, the bass can be muddy at times, depending on what music you're listening to on this (pleasant side note, jazz and classical sound fantastic on this headset). The only other issue I had was no one could hear me on the microphone that's integrated into the headset. Despite multiple efforts, I eventually had to cave, pop the headset off and switch back to my phone to talk.
Overall though, I can't recommend this headset highly enough. As far as bluetooth over-the-ear headsets go, it's by and large the best one I've ever used. As a convertible headset that allows me to quickly switch from bluetooth on my phone to passive listening on my computer, it's a win-win for a use case I had never considered previously. So go buy it! It's well worth the meager asking price of $60.
PROS: Great sound quality for the price
Excellent sound dampening (on par with $150+ headphones)
Bluetooth connectivity works flawlessly
Detachable cable allows for multiple uses
CONS: Lack of a dedicated on-off button, hard to figure out sometimes if I'm pressing the on/off button and holding it long enough or pressing something else
Bass is a little muddy, but on par with other $60 headphones
Microphone is hard to hear on phone calls
PROS: sound, look, flexibility, bluetooth
CONS: plastic hinge supporting part
PROS: Battery lasts a long time
Charges extremley fast
CONS: Receive medium power warning but not low power. Died without warning.
Sometimes when powering off it says powereing off and other times I just hear a chime and it turns off, not sure why it changes.
