what is frequency curve ? How flat is the frequency response ?
    Frank L on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These metal headphones do not have a flat response. My EQ curve was a slight "V" for a nice bass bump and a little sparkle on the top.

Will these work with Android phones as well?
    jay g on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't have these headphones, nor haveI tried them. However, the description says that they have a 3.5mm audio cable that is removable. Most phones, including Android phones have a 3.5mm input. As long as your Android phone has a 3.5mm input, I'm pretty sure these headphones will work with it. If you are hoping to be able to use the inline controller with your Android phone, then no, it will not work with your Android phone. Thus the statement, " an inline controller compatible with Apple® iOS® devices".
A better question might be : Are these Active or passive noise canceling headphones? Answer : Passive.
    A shopper on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These metal headphones are not noise cancelling. They do reduce outside noise by the simple matter of covering your ears with a padded earpad.
Is there a microphone option on this headset? Or is there an ability to use a cord that has a microphone built in? I want to use these for gaming but would need a microphone to chat with friends.
    A shopper on Jan 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From the description above: "The included audio cable features an inline controller compatible with Apple® iOS® devices, as well as a BUILT-IN MICROPHONE." - emphasis mine. It does work, BTW.
Is monoprice ever going to sell the replacement cable like the one that comes with the headphones?
    William C on Jun 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: When it comes to new or updated items, we unfortunately would not have any information which we would be able to share. If you are experiencing issues with the cable of these headphones, I would recommend reaching out to our support team regarding a possible warranty replacement of the cable. You can reach out here:

How long is the cord with these headphones?
    Daniel V on Feb 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in this product. The cable is 3.5 feet long
do these have a built in mike?
    A shopper on Nov 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From the description of the product on the Monoprice site - The included audio cable features an inline controller compatible with Apple® iOS® devices, as well as a built-in microphone.
    Is the ear pad replaceable?
    Chung Yau L on May 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The ear pads are removable. One-quarter turn counterclockwise and they pop right off. Whether replacement pads that will fit the locking keys are available, that I do not know.
I received this pair as a gift. I haven't used headphones in a long time and am finding that my ears hurt after about twenty minutes of use. I noticed one reviewer mention "headphone fatigue". Is this common with other headphones or am I experiencing something that's specific to this pair?
    New User U on Jan 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The main advantage to these headphones are their very small side, ultra-rugged metal construction, and removable cable. They're great travel headphones. However, since they're supra-aural, they rest completely onto your ear. Thus, they will tend to be less comfortable for long term use than circumaural headphones. This pair of headphones, in particular, have a very stiff pad, so all that force goes right to your ears. Also, they seem to exert more than the usual amout of pressure on the sides of your head. (YMMV, I'm a big guy and I have a very large head)

For me, gently but firmly bending the center part of the band flat, and then a little more to the left and the right, flattened out the headpiece and loosened up the fit a little. If you're going to be wearing headphones for long sessions I'd try the very well reviewed monoprice 8323 DJ headphones instead.

Although bass response is subjective, would anyone say that these have a lot of bass for someone that really likes bass emphasized in their music?
    Brett K on Sep 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: In my opinion these have bass that is excellent for listening to rap, hip hop, dubstep, etc. The bass is definitely there and it's a V shape sound profile but it's not overpowering to the point that it makes everything sound bad.
How compact do they fold up for packing?
    A shopper on Aug 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Pretty compact. They won't fit in your pocket (unless you are wearing cargo pants), but they'd fit in a fanny pack with room to spare. I've only had them a few months, but they seem VERY sturdy. If you look at the photo you can see where the hinges are (the reverse side of the Monoprice logo). The ear cups will fold up completely so that they press against the underside of the headband (well, one of them will, they overlap) so you are left with really just the dimensions of the headband which is not very large. I'm struggling to think of a good unit of measurement to compare these to. Maybe a banana? I think folded up they are not significantly larger than a banana.
My son lost the cable with mic in the 2nd week. Is it sold separately?
    Andrew A on May 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can buy a generic 3.5mm cable with male ends. The volume up/down only works with iOS anyway so if he's not using an Apple device there will be really no discernible difference.
Any one of the following Monoprice products should work: 18630, 9564, or 9764. I have the 9764 and although I don't use it with the headphones, I have tested it and it works. The cable is a bit stiff though.

Not bad at all - android option please!
In this price range, if you're looking for a travel headphone that can live in a carry on or messenger bag and handle getting banged around, this is a great choice. I'd trust these to take any knocks. Compare very favourably to travel-friendly Sennheisers (HD 219 etc) are are superior to HD 201's or 202's in my opinion. If you're buying a pair of headphones that are going to live at home, but occasionally travel with you, you'll be better served with something like an Audio Technica's M30x. Needless to say, if you're considering beats solo or studio, these would be a better choice with a similar feature set and similar performance.

I can't get over the excellent build quality. Exterior of the headphone cups, hinges, and the entire band are all metal construction. I can't imagine these ever breaking. However, that comes at a cost, and that cost is comfort and fatigue.

The comfort is fair, but because of the metal construction they are VERY heavy. Also the fit was quite tight for me out of the box. The earpads themselves are pretty stiff. However, the band can be bent (as it is metal), which will alleviate most problems with fit. After about 30 mins I was already feeling a fair amount of headphone fatigue. I wouldn't plan on wearing them for a long flight.

The sound quality is on the bass-heavy side but not annoyingly so. They aren't as neutral as my Grado SR60's or my Sennheiser HD448's, but not as bass-happy as Beats, Skullcandy Hesh, or other similar 'urban' headphones. VERY efficient, easier to drive than my HD448's. A really nice balance for modern pop, rock, and metal music. Wouldn't be my first choice for classical. Probably not thumpy enough for fans of EDM or hip-hop.

The isolation is actually pretty good considering one advertising point is remaining aware of your surroundings. I'd say they drop at least 10db off of the room.

I'm only really taking off a star because with a detachable cable, an android options seems like it would have been very natural. They work fine for android phones, but the volume buttons are a continual useless reminder that you have the wrong cable. One could easily pick up an android-friendly TRS to TRRS cable from a different brand on the cheap to fix this issue. Just be careful of your cable choice because many seeming compatible options actually use a 2.5mm TRS to 3.5mm TRRS cable.

    Fantastic Value!
It's hard to write a review without considering the cost, so I'm not going to try. These are relatively inexpensive headphones, but they are an incredible value and probably worth twice or three times what they are selling for.

Let's start with build quality. In a word, phenomenal. These are beautifully built and feel incredibly durable and sturdy. They are a little heavy (they're built of metal, not plastic). And they look good! The cord is fabric wrapped and high quality. These things are badass. Seriously, they feel better put together than arguably any on-ear headphones I've had - and I've had a lot. But metal comes with weight - these are substantial cans. I wouldn't go so far as to call them heavy, but they ain't light either.

Comfort: I have a small head and these still clamp pretty tight. Fatigue might be an issue here. If you have a larger than average sized head, I can't recommend these for long-term listening. I've had them on for about an hour at this point and they are starting to get a little uncomfortable. That being said, I imagine they will break in a bit and for my 40 minute commute, these are great. Also, being metal and seemingly indestructible, you can probably bend the band a little and re-shape them to your comfort.

Sound: Awesome. Simply awesome. They play nice and loud right out of my phone with no need for an amp or external DAC. They are on the warm side, but the bass is not overpowering and pretty easily EQ'd to a slightly more balanced signature. NOTE: I am not an audiophile (at least I don't think I am - I don't know how one qualifies as such) so I am talking out of my arse a little, but I listen to a lot of music and have purchased a lot of headphones. These sound far better than cans I've spent three times as much on. The bass-forward sound lends itself really well to EDM, Hiphop, etc, but I can hear string changes in classical and nuance in more folksy, vocal-driven tracks. These really sound great no matter what you are listening to.

One gripe, and it is personal one and largely the nature of on-ear rather than in-or-over ear headphones - there is significant sound leak. They get loud and the isolation/passive noise canceling is great, but in an elevator, even at mid-volume, everyone will hear your music. That is probably not an issue for a lot of people, but it's something to consider.

Overall: These are pretty amazing for the cost and pretty amazing regard less of cost. For the price, I can easily and emphatically recommend them. If they were three times as expensive, I might have some reservations, but not many.

Well done, Monoprice. These are really solid headphones.

    Great Sound, Poor comfort
These sound really good and do a good job drowning out coworkers in an office setting. I like that the cord is detachable-I added a 6ft cord since I'm using these with a desktop PC.. However, they are difficult to wear for more than an hour without hurting my ears. Tried different angles, positions, and size notches but it only provides temporary relief. Not sure if it is the weight, thin padding, or high clamping force. I had really high hopes for these and jumped on two pairs when they were available for $19.99 shipped. If I hadn't thrown away the boxes, these would be going back. Back to the cheap company-issued Logitech H110 headset. Can wear that for hours on end.

    Uncomfortably good sound
I really enjoy the looks and sound quality of these headphones. Unfortunately, their greatest flaw is in their comfort. The ear cups do swivel from side to side, but not enough for my ears. If I wear them for more than 30-45 minutes, my ears start to ache. It's a real shame as I enjoy the sound of these headphones quite a bit.

The braided cable included began fraying near the device end fairly quickly after purchase and the volume buttons don't work with android devices (they seem to be ios-only).

    Not for big heads
Sound is decent, the headphone cushions are quite comfortable and are great at blocking exterior sounds... but... if you have a large head, this will feel uncomfortable after a few yours. They squeeze pretty hard. That, and the press down on the top of your head pretty strongly as well. #8323 are more comfortable. On the plus side, I have no concerns that these will break or wear out anytime soon.

    Amazong headphones for the price
For the price, these are a no-brainer. The build-quality and style rivals headphones in the $200 range. A bit on the heavy side due to the all metal construction but I will gladly trade a bit of weight for quality.

I'm not an audiophile so these may or may not have a good soundstage but for all of us laypeople, the audio quality will be extremely good.

Excellent pair of headphones that should be priced three times higher.
I was skeptical about buying headphones online without either trying them myself or at least a good base of reviews to read through. But I couldn't be happier. For about $43 (with discount) the headphones have leather pads and headrest, all with metal construction! I don't think I can ever recall those features on headpnes in this price point. The fit and finish is excellent. Now, as to the sound. Nearly flawless. While the bass is "tight," it's not overpowering. The 'phones handle the highs well but fade at the upmost end causing "crackling." I've read that some 'phones need a break-in period. I listen primarily to jazz, opera, some rap.

Awesome plug in headphones. You can feel the quality in the weight.
Order two of these for the kids. First off you feel the quality when you put these on your ears.
The replaceable 3.5mm cord is nice to know you can replace them.

    Love the metal durability.

Would love to have this build quality in a Bluetooth set.

    Very well balanced sound
I absolutely have to give this headset 5 stars. Not a lot of extra bass, but the sound is very clear and incredibly well balanced with no distortion whatsoever. I don't think I can call myself an audiophile, but I have always been very picky about sound quality.

Worth a lot more than the price. Discounted it is a steal! Most on the ear headsets are difficult to wear for long periods of time. Properly adjusted, this product is not very uncomfortable, at least not more than others of the same type (I have several). This one sports an impressive build quality that you will not find even on headsets costing 10 times the price.

The woven-fabric covered cord is excellent and if you are an Apple device user like me you will appreciate the inline controls. Get one! You will not be disappointed.

    Love them!
I have a pair. I wanted a set of headphones with a replaceable cord. I go through cords left and right. I had another set from monoprice but while they had the replaceable cord they were made of plastic and eventually (after 2 years) broke. I sought out a sturdier pair and since I had pretty good luck with Monoprice I decided to give them another try. These are fantastic! Love the durability! They are so good that I am back at the site today to order a pair for my spouse!
