Pins up or pins down for microSD?
    Evan T on Apr 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The copper pads or pins go down.
Anybody have troubles using it with Windows 10?
    Evan T on Apr 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Nope. No trouble at all. I bought it for my Surface Pro tablet running Windows 10 Pro and it works flawlessly.

Fast reads/writes, second time's the charm
The first one that showed up was unable to achieve speeds faster than 5 MB/s. (tested in multiple ports USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and with multiple cables)

Replaced via Monoprice RMA. Return process was very simple, with fast turn-around.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS ONLY: (this test is what I observed when first testing it, not over long-term use)

My Card: SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC 64GB card, rated at 95MB/s.

My Files: 129 raw photos at approximately 25MB each.

Reading From Card: Approximately 80 MB/s, sustained.

Writing to Card: Approximately 70 MB/s, sustained.

Note: Tested with both the 12 inch cable that came with the card, and also with a 10 ft Monoprice USB cable of similar robust-feeling quality. Same results for both.

    Not tested: Anything else.

Conclusion: I'm very happy with the observed speeds copying to/from this card! That's what I bought it for!

PROS: Fast Reads & Writes over USB 3.0

CONS: First unit was unable to read over 5MB/s. Returned for RMA.

Cable plugged in to device pops out very easily - not a robust connection.

It works for everything I've tried so far. The MicroSD/TransFlash slot is situated in such a way as to make it easy to miss the guides. I've had to remove and reinsert them several times. I learned how to insert them and don't do that any more. The cable is too short. If you have USB slots only on the back of your computer, you're out of luck.

    PROS: Fast

    Every type of card.

    TransFlash without adapter.

CONS: Cable is too short, and can't be replaced

CF cards won't insert into this properly
The slot that accepts Compact Flash cards is so tight that I can't get any of my cards to fit into.
I also use SD cards and they fit but I need both slots to work.

    PROS: Low cost

CONS: Compact flash cards don't fit.

    Worthless for CF
Does NOT read CF cards correctly results in the following: http://imgur.com/sAs5rng

PROS: Micro SD slot is convenient, no adapter needed

CONS: Does NOT read CF cards correctly

    Cable is 6" long.

    Response from Monoprice

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues in using the CF card with PID 9977. For troubleshooting purposes, have you tried switching out the USB cable and connecting to a different USB port? Does the issue still occur when connecting to a different computer? How about using a different CF card? Another thing to keep in mind is to be sure to transfer fully so that the photo doesn't become fragmented. Please let me know if the above steps yields any results. Hope this helps!

CF Card will not fit into the slot anymore
The card reader worked fine but the CF card slot was a really tight fit and you had to gently work the card into the slot.
After about a month the CF cards would not longer fit into the slot.
I stopped using the reader for fear of damaging a card

    PROS: Good download speed

CONS: It is difficult to put a CF card into the reader. The slot is too tight and you run the risk of damaging your card is you try to force the card into the reader.

Under USB 3.0 connection in Windows 7, I have observed 72Mb/s reading speed on my SD card that rated 80Mb/s.

Wish the package comes with a 3ft USB cable though.

    PROS: Fast reading speed

CONS: Flimsy plastic enclosure. USB cable too short.

    Good reader but...
Great card reader, fast and WAS reliable. Stopped working, or course, right when the warranty expired (1 Year). For under $12, not a terrible buy, but I was hoping for something a little better. Monoprice items are cheap for a reason

    PROS: Fast, multiple card slots

CONS: stopped working after under a year, very short cord

Compact Flash Slot not the best
The CF card slot is not deep enough to get positive alignment when sliding the card into the reader. Subsequently pins get bent and the reader is worthless. DIdn't try other card formats. Requested RMA.

    PROS: Price

CONS: Probably the price as well...

We needed it primarily for a CF card when our new machines lacked a built-in CF reader. Unfortunately, since the CF slot is so shallow, the pins can be bent easily if the card doesn't go in just right.

It was super fast on our Windows 7 desktop machine before the pins bent. It was just inconvenient to use, since its USB 3.0 slots are all on the back and the included cord is so short.

Getting our Windows 8 machine to read from it is not easy, either. It will recognize the reader is attached, but won't actually read from it reliably.

    PROS: fast

CONS: CF slot is too shallow cord is too short

Unreliable, but fine as a non critical reader
So for the price it's a fine buy if you're not doing mission critical work.

Shot a commercial yesterday and used this reader to transfer files. First half of the day was fine, but later in the day the clips started coming in garbled with strange digital distortion. At first I thought the CF card had gone corrupt, but when I checked it in the camera everything was fine. Tried another reader when I got back to the studio and the transfer went fine. Definitely the fault of the reader.

To it's defense, I was transferring 64GB CF cards that are the new faster 120 MB/s version. Maybe it couldn't keep up, but not sure why it would work the first half of the day and not the last half of the day. Unreliable at best.

    PROS: Cheap, cheap and cheap

    CONS: Cheap, cheap and cheap
