Has the handle issue been resolved, as I read in a user’s reviews.? And what about the actual weight? One user says 29 lbs empty while the description says 24 lbs. This is very important to stay within airline baggage limits.
I didn't know a lot about this company, but I decided to order this case from them because they were the best price I was able to fine. To my surprise the hard case was solid from a construction stand point and delivered when they said it would be. They get 5 starts from me!
This case is nice and sturdy and the price is perfect. It's half as much as other cases by companies I've used in the past, which is a good selling point. The problem is the foam inside. While I was plucking the foam I thought that it felt flimsy and it didn't take long to realize I was right. After packing the case and arriving at a shoot, I opened the case to see all the foam wrinkled up and my video accessories slid to the side with the wheels from rolling the case. That instantly makes the case worthless to me since I need the foam and if I have to buy new, better foam then the price shoots right up to the price of the cases I've always used. I'm definitely upset but, I can't skimp when it comes to expensive video equipment.
PROS: Price, Quality of exterior
CONS: Foam is flimsy and won't protect my gear, handle configuration takes away from available inside space.
This is the first hard case I’ve ever had the pleasure of using and I want to thank Monoprice for granting the opportunity to use it for review purposes which will not affect my experiences/review. At first I considered a hard case by a well-known hard case manufacturer so I contacted them for a quote on the size/model that I thought would meet my needs. However you cannot purchase from them directly, you have to go through their “official” distributors and most of them do not have online stores or Amazon website. The price through their distributors is two to three times that of the price offered for the Monoprice hard cases. Yes I am aware that you may find similar prices on some models through Amazon, but from my experience when purchasing sometimes you end up with third party seller that may ship a different product (knock off), it may arrive as something other than advertised (used vs new) or may be delivered damaged. I also rather purchase directly from vendor when it comes to certain items, this is a matter of preference.
Hard case arrived as advertised and in a cardboard box, no foam, bubble wrap, etc. In actuality extra packaging isn’t really needed for this item since it is meant to withstand “rough” handling, shipping and travel use. The case is solid and heavy duty, I did not notice any dust sticking to surface. It is shockproof and water proof (to an extent up to 1 meter). It comes with a customizable name plate that I have yet to send out to add my gaming handle to, but could be useful. There are four latches one on each side and two on the front, they all have two mounting options for TSA locks if you were to use this case as check in luggage or ship out. Tip: Open the valve when traveling via aircraft to allow pressure changes through the valve and close it while traveling on water. Material of pins used for handles and lid is stainless steel. The heavy duty wheels handled different surfaces very well, especially pavement and gravel, very little wear and tear is visible. The extended handle has a bit of wobble to it, but has no problem pulling case and its content(s). Hard case came with four layers of customizable foam. Each layer is approximately 3 inches deep, you can pick and pluck different areas (individually) out to custom fit your hardware. However I wish that each layer of foam had a mid-section for when you do not need to pick the entire 3 inches out for smaller items. Per description this hard case is meant for audio equipment and monitor(s), but I used to carry my SFF PC build. The case is a Fractal Design Node 304 (Case dimensions (W x H x D): 250 x 210 x 374 mm) and I was able to place my keyboard, mouse, webcam and UBS hub along the sides as well. I used this case during two different LAN events: one at Fort Wayne, IN and the other at Portland, OR. I drove to both events and had the case in the trunk of my vehicle. All of my hardware and peripherals were very well protected during my travels without any damages and functioned properly every time. Please take into consideration the weight of the case itself before placing any items in it since it is a bit heavy by itself, interior dimensions are slightly smaller form exterior ones and that item(s) need to have at least a layer in between for protection. I am beyond satisfied with this hard case and intend to purchase a smaller version for other purposes.
PROS: Durable, great build quality and competitive MSRP price. Available directly from vendor.
CONS: No replacement availability for customizable foam from Monoprice at the moment. Customizable foam has no middle layer option for when you only need to pluck half way through vs plucking entire foam piece.
Thank you for your review on PID 12184. If possible, can you send me pictures that show the handle difference you described? Please let me know as I will be forwarding this along to be addressed. My apologies for the trouble and thank you in advance!
