I have lost the quick attach plate. Can it be replaced? If so, with what, as I'm not finding anything suitable on monoprice's website?

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately we would not carry the quick attach plate separate from the unit. I do apologize for any inconvenience.
Does anyone have a photo of the bottom of the mounting plate? I'd like to attach a camera strap to the mounting plate when the camera isn't mounted on a tripod.. using a Black Rapid strap. Does the mounting plate accommodate a strap like this?

BEST ANSWER: I use a Black Rapids Strap and use it on my Canon 7D. I also use the camera head you are asking about. If you leave the plate attached to the camera body you can not use the Black Rapids Strap; they both use the same mount. When I use my canon 400 mm telephoto I can leave the mounting plate attached to the lens ( with a 400mm lens, the lens has a mounting bracket and that is what is used to attach it to the tripod via the plate) which leaves the mounting area at the bottom of the camera free for the strap. Hope this helps.

    Non-standard ballhead
I've had this ball head and the Monoprice large carbon fiber tripod for several months now.

The quick release system is great when considered on it's own merits. I really could go on and on about the quality of the build and design, but the cons are simply far to much for me to see past.

Monoprice is using a non standard plate and clamp on these ball heads. The clamp bed is easily several millimeters wider than arca swiss or RC-2 plates. The ball head also has a non-standard screw securing the clamp to the ball head, so it makes fitting an arca swiss clamp to it a fidgety process.

Minus 2 for missing features. Minus 1 for Monoprice not detailing this on the product page.

    PROS: Quality build and materials

    Functions as advertised

CONS: Non-standard plate and clamp system

Not compatible with arca swiss or RC-2 systems

Heavy Duty, wins performance per dollar
This ball head will reasonably hold a full frame DSLR with a heavy telephoto, even at odd angles. Per dollar it is fantastic. If I were being picky, slightly less lash on the panning bearing would be delightful.

PROS: Solid. Heavy. Does what it should, smooth, adjustable resistance.

CONS: Very minor lash when panning.
Wonderfully inexpensive for the amount of metal and close machining.
