OTG Card Reader for Android Smartphones (microSD / SD / USB)
Effortlessly add additional SD™, microSD™, or USB storage to your Android™ 4.0 or later phone or tablet using this OTG Card Reader from Monoprice!
OTG stands for "On The Go", which is a USB connectivity standard for Android devices. With an OTG adapter, such as this one, you can connect a variety of USB devices, such as PC keyboards, mice, flash drives, etc. This OTG adapter also includes a full-sized SD card slot and a microSD card slot, allowing you to add gigabytes of storage to your phone or tablet.
The card reader connects to the Android device using a standard micro USB connection. A micro USB female to USB A male adapter is included, which allows you to plug into a PC or Mac® USB port for traditional card reader usage.
Note that only one of the two card slots can be used at any given time. While you can use the USB port for an input device, such as a keyboard, simultaneously with a storage card in one of the slots, you cannot use more than one storage device (card or USB flash) at the same time when connected to an Android device.

Questions and Answers
You can then copy the files, backup the files, etc.
This product works on my Moto X with Android 4.4.4 no problems.
PROS: This item allows me to download and backup photos from my compact camera. I'm able to copy files from an SD card and upload directly to Google Drive for backup.
Appears as a USB drive on the phone.
CONS: You do have to use the proper sequence. This may be an issue with Android not the product.
1. Plug the SD card into the read.
2. Then plug the reader into the phone.
One thing I wished it would allow you to charge/power the phone via the USB port.

PROS: Easy to use, compact, light weight
CONS: None thus far
This adapter will also support the use of an external keyboard or mouse as well.
With this really neat accessory, you can just insert a card or flash drive into the reader, connect it to a cellphone or tablet, use a file manager and read/write the data to/from whatever you are connected to. There’s even a micro USB connector that you can power the adapter with. I assume to power something like an external portable hard drive. I haven’t tried that yet, so I cannot confirm if it will work or not.
There is also a separate USB-A male to micro USB female adapter packaged with the card reader.
For the price and convenience of what it does, I don’t think you can really go wrong.
PROS: Reads all typically used memory cards used today, including high capacity sizes. A huge benefit.
CONS: None really other than maybe the short cable could be a little longer, or have the micro USB connector on the cable be a right angle connector which would eliminate any stress on the connector. Not enough to stop me from getting one as is though.
