does this charger have overcurrent or overcharge protection?
    Winston C on Mar 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I'd hope that the device being charged has some type of inbuilt protection to prevent overcharge. Like when it's up to 90-95% capacity, begins to trickle.

As far as current goes, the device pulls what's needed, the charger supplies based on that demand. Just like any charger. Of course, most all batteries gets a bit warm, especially if down below 80%, then cools once the trickle mode kicks in. This is true of even Apple's OEM iPhone USB chargers (plug into the provided bare AC to USB adapter, or into the USB charge port of a computer).

This is also why I purchase when possible, a higher wattage charger for notebooks, it's OK to have higher Watts, as well as Amps (current). Because it'll draw only what's needed & no more. However, it's also important to have the Amp rating at least the same as the OEM unit, any lower will cause issues. Same with Voltage. Amps (current flow) & Watts can go higher, but not lower.

Still, it's one's device that keeps a battery from becoming overcharged, will 'disconnect' the charging circuit once complete.

    Good Luck!

    Is this USB IF certified?
    New User U on Jan 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The IIIP Logo on the charger is an indicator it's among the Top Tier line of Monoprice. Just like their best HDMI cables (the fastest & more current generation), has the same logo.

Not to worry, Monoprice stands behind what they sell, many of their own branded items, for Life.

    Is this charger UL certified?
    A shopper on Mar 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No. But it ETL Listed.

This will fast charge a Nexus 5X
I bought this to see if it would "rapid charge" the Nexus 5X and as it turns out, it does! I tested this with the cable from the included charger, and with a Monoprice USB C 3.0 to USB C 3.0 cable. In both cases the Nexus 5X reported rapid charging. Considering this includes 2 more USB A ports, it's a lot better than the options from Google and way cheaper.

PROS: Fast charging via USB C, good speed for everything else using USB A.

CONS: It's kind of big. Not really a big deal though.

Plenty of power, noisy under minimal load
This charger has plenty of power.
Only complaint is that the switch mode power supply is a little noisy when the charger is below maybe 20% load.
I'm splitting hairs, this only bothers me because I sleep in near silence.

    Great USB-C sharger
This is a really good charger for the price, considering right now there are still very shady USB-C chargers out in the market. It fast charges my Nexus 6P every time and charges my wife's Galaxy Note 5 at the same time, although since it is not QuickCharge 2.0, it won't charge the Note 5 rapidly.
    I definitely recommend it.

    PROS: Good price
    Charges Nexus 6P rapidly

    CONS: No QuickCharge

Works great with my Lumia 950
I have used it to fast charge my Lumia 950 phone while also charging my Asus T100 tablet and it has worked perfectly. I am very happy

    Fast Charges Nexus 5X
Works well for rapid charging my Nexus 5x with stock cord or one of the Monoprice USB-C to USB-C cords. Having the USB-A slots for charging other devices makes this great for saving space.

    Solid High Amp Charger
Feels very solid and nice. I bought this as a spare for my Nexus 5x. I like it becuase it gives both the USB 3.0 and USB C connector options. The USB 3.0 connectors say they're only 2.4A, but I've had the charger pulling 15W (3A) on my kill-a-watt meter (using the Palette cables from this site), so very satisfactory. Also it's good because the Nexus 5x only charges at 15W for a short time, even on the stock charger.

    PROS: Charges pretty fast
    folding prongs
    USB A or C

CONS: No cons, does everything it should do, based on the USB standards.

Very good charger - fast charging for my 6P
I bought this so I could use it as a travel charger and have it handle my USB C and standard USB charging. I don't like have to carry around multiple chargers so this is great for that.

It works great for fast charging my Nexus 6P. The screen shows rapid charge so I know its working properly.

My issue with this charger is it seems the USB C port may be slightly on the large side. I bought this along with a USB C cable (Product # 15107) from Monoprice and the fit is really sloppy. I think most of the play comes from the USB C cable being slightly undersized (because it's loose in my phone as well) but I'm constantly checking to ensure the cable is plugged into the charger. The standard charger that came with the phone does seem to work a little better but still not as snug as the original charger with the original USB C cable.

    Excellent no frills charger.
This charger works great and charges rapidly with a Nexus 5x, Nexus 6p, and a Pixel XL. It is also very compact. No complaints.

    Works Great, Not Over-Rated
I tested the power drawn by this device when it was charging an iPad Air, Nexus 5X (on USB-C plug), and a Samsung tablet. It was drawing significantly more power than what it was rated for, which means it may be under-rated, that is, it is likely supplying more power to the devices than what is listed in the specs. My Nexus 5X reports fast charging

PROS: Seems to be under-rated, supplying more charging current than specified (a good thing)

    CONS: None
