See Con above. Cables are thick and seem like they will hold up to wear and use very well. I could not get an answer from Monoprice Tech Support on the capacitance of the cable used so I did some measurements when cables arrived. The capacitance from conductor to conductor measured a little under 180 pf for a 6 foot cable so about 30 pf/ft. From either conductor to shield measured 300pf for 6 foot so about 50pf/ft. These are average OK numbers for this type of cable.
PROS: Good quality parts and construction. Excellent price.
CONS: Cables are not wired to Audio Engineering Society (AES) standards. Tip (hot) of 1/4" plug is wired to XLR pin 3 and the ring (cold) is wired to XLR pin 2. This is backwards. This can cause signal phase and cancellation problems if these cables are used with cables that are wired properly. The 1/4" plug end of the cable is potted but fortunately the XLR end is not so the cable is easily brought up to standard by swapping the wires at pins 2 and 3.
I got these cables to hook up my audio interface to my studio monitor speakers in my modest home studio. I had a pair of mogami cables (the cable dujeur of the studio world... at $40 per 6footer!) one of the mogami's died and I read about monoprice online.
I couldn't be happier. I'm no pro engineer but I do have a very keen ear, and in my experience there is no difference between monoprice cables and designer brands. I spend a lot of my time listening very very closely to recordings specifically trying to spot minor things, and these don't hinder me at all.
The only difference between monoprice and monster or mogami is that monoprice cables are very thick and very durable, and that gives me peace of mind.
Greater durability, equal functionality, a fraction of the price. It will be a long time before I even think about seeking another brand.
This is exactly what I needed! I use to have a small humming noise running rca to my sound card (M-Audio Fast Track Pro), but with these TRS cables it really made a difference in quality! From like an 8 to a 10. Highly recommend!
PROS: Cheap, fast shipment, great quality product!
Originally I was not sure about the quality of the style of XLR-M and XLR-F connectors that Monoprice uses. They are quite different than the Neutrik style that I know and trust. But after using them for the better part of a year in an A/V rental house, they have held up well and I have to recommend them as being reliable and road-worthy. The actual balanced cables are flexible and sturdy as well. A great buy.
PROS: Solid quality feel. Flexible and durable. Great price, once again. You can pay more and get lousy 14" to XLR-M cables from other stores or online.
