Beware that these are wired differently than what seems to be standard, and can cause problems when used with other manufacturers XLR to TRS cables. The standard is XLR pin 1(ground) = TRS sleeve XLR pin 2 (hot) = TRS tip XLR pin 3 (cold) = TRS ring
and the monoprice one I bought I found, when tested, is wired
XLR pin 1(ground) = TRS sleeve XLR pin 2 (hot) = TRS ring XLR pin 3 (cold) = TRS tip
Which means it is out of phase with the standard and will cause problems anywhere phase coherence is at all important. As an extreme example, last night I used one of these doing sound for a band that had beats/tracks coming out of a laptop sound interface, and I used one monoprice XLR to TRS adapter and one of the band's adapters to run the two stereo channels into our snake. The monoprice adapter secretly flipped the phase on one side of the stereo signal from the laptop, and while it sounded fairly regular in the house, the board's feed going to the monitors is a sum of the left and right channels, so what was playing on stage was utterly screwed up, because it was only the difference between the channels, anything that was panned to the center in the laptop's tracks was cancelled out. The drummer couldn't play along with the prerecorded tracks, despite us cranking it up more and more. They trainwrecked through the first couple songs until I could suss out the problem and ditched the monoprice side of the stereo tracks. Ironically this was after a conversation one of the traveling DJ's and I had about how much we both loved Monoprice!
MONOPRICE: Please have your factory wire these as per the standard if they are intended to sell to the pro audio market. Someone could have gotten stabbed last night.
PROS: Good, metal connectors allow repair/modification in the future. Good physical construction.
At first I didn't expect much at this price point however, after seeing the fit / finish of these cables, and particularly after using them in a professional installation, I can vouch for them wholeheartedly...
3ft Premier Series XLR Male to 1/4inch TRS Male 16AWG Cables
Excellent cables in every sense of the word. All components, the workmanship - I worked in electronic repair for 20+ years. These cables are built to last and to be trouble free. And yes - I would buy again for another project and recommend to a friend
I'm what you might call frugal. I simply hate to spend any more than necessary to get a product that will get the job done. On the other hand I AM NOT CHEAP and I know there is absolutely no point in saving a buck on an item that falls apart or performs poorly. So I was pleasantly surprised to find out that these super inexpensive Premier cables were every bit as sturdy and effective as name brand cables costing 10x more. I've been using them in my home stereo and band PA system for several years and haven't lost one yet. Not only are they electronically neutral and study enough to use on the road, they are flexible and easy to coil. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
PROS: inexpensive good looking sturdy/built to last flexible coil easily
