Will this work on its own or must it have a separate DMX controller? This s about the Stage Right 3-Color LED Moving Head Stage Light (Refurbished)

BEST ANSWER: A DMX controller is not necessary. This light has a Master Sound mode, with a built-in microphone. It does a pretty good job at following the beat, and changes the color/motion/speed/strobe with the music. For less demanding gigs I use 4 of these lights, the first as Master Sound, the rest connected by DMX cable, running in slave mode. All four then follow the music. Motion and colors change in unison on all lights, no perceptible delay.
Has anyone found a common fixture profile that matches up with this unit? I'm having a hard time finding another name brand profile with the same DMX channel configuration.
    A shopper on Mar 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: We do not have a common DMX profile for these lights. You most likely will have create your own custom profile for the 4 & 12 ch modes
    are they flicker free?
    A shopper on Jul 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your interest in this stage light. The 3-color moving head is not rated as "flicker-free". It does have a very smooth color fade ability but on video there is a chance you will see flicker.
are they weather proof for outside use?
    A shopper on May 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This stage light is not rated for outdoor use.
can you mount this fixture, or only place on floor?
    A shopper on Apr 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This stage light comes with a mounting bracket that you can use to attach an O-Clamp.

What's the maximum distance you would mount the from the stage?
    Matthew E on Apr 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: These lights are fairly low power for large stage use. I would not recommend use more than 30' away.
Has anyone else had an issue with the dmx values not lining up with what is in the manual?
I have a fixture profile with the exact values for the colors that are in the pdf manual, but my colors don't match up to what they are supposed to be.
We have 4 of these and they all have the same problem. For instance, to get blue I have to select magenta. Not a huge problem... I just go through the colors until I find the one I want, but just curious if anyone else has had this issue.... I wonder if there is an updated user manual.

BEST ANSWER: I've had a pair of these for almost two years, and I've never had an issue with them. However, I am using them with a 16 unit, 512 channel DMX controller. Because of where I have them flown, I need them connected to the DMX unit. I can't get to them to program them with their built in programs. Just get an inexpensive DMX controller, connect them in a daisy chain, terminate them with a DMX terminator, and you can then control them remotely. All the colors correspond with the controller's buttons. Because these lights operate with up to 16 channels, you should get a DMX controller that has that capability. A 3 or 4 channel DMX unit, will work with it, but you'll be very limited, due to the lack of channels.
Does anyone have the full dmx control chart? The one in the owners manual is very limited.

Just what I was looking for
I was very leary of a moving head light at this price, but decided to try one and see how it worked. I am thrilled with this little gadget. I have spent about an hour with it and did some programming on my board. (SceneSetter 48). It works great and it will be able to be run manually too. The "invert" option is great because, running in the four channel DMX mode, it would take eight channels to have a left and right fixture on stage. I will post a second review after we use it for a few shows. Planning on getting three more. Right now, I say buy it.

PROS: Smooth operation, lots of colors, sturdy feel and great price.

CONS: The manual isn't too helpful if you don't know about setting up DMX lighting.

    Great little light!
Really happy with these lights, first of all, don't let the 3W fool you, these are BRIGHT lights. Easy to use with QLC+ (Just use the fixure profile for the Varytec Easy Move LED XS Wash, works perfectly with the Monoprice lights).

PROS: Bright light, Easy to setup, well made, smooth operation

    CONS: None

Decent light, but tragically loud fan
If there is a ever a hardware revision, it would be great to put the fan on a thermistor, so it's only on when the electronics get toasty. Or a quieter fan, like squirrel fans that are used in computers.

Not a pro or a con, but the light is more towards a spot, than a wash. I guess if they were wash pattern lights, you wouldn't need to aim them.

It has been a drag with these lights. I couldn't use these at my venue because of the fan noise, and had to return them. Am out the $16 for shipping them back.

PROS: Cheap. Works the way it should. DMX works. Control of rotation is simple and smooth. Very nice to be able to aim them without having to climb up a ladder.

CONS: I can't believe no one mentioned how loud the fans are in these. And it's on from the second you turn it on. I think these would work fine for a stage that strictly deals with loud music, like a bar or rock club. Any pause in the music and you'll hear the fans happily blasting away. No one would pay for a PA system that makes as much noise as these, so it doesn't make sense to ruin your noise floor with these lights.

Other con is sort of minor, but the position of the lights resets itself on power up. I didn't get deep enough to find out if there is a way to disable this.

    A marvelous little light...
Overall, these are an amazing light for the price point. They brightness and smoothness of their moving head is very impressive. Working with a hazer or as architectural accent lights they are great.

PROS: This moving head light is absolutely great. The brightness is amazing. The control and movement are both good. The smoothness of its movements is very good. The ease of use helps this product also.

CONS: We had some issues with the first turn on of 2 of our 10 lights. However, we travel with these lights and they seem to handle the setup and breakdown just fine. Monoprice quickly replaced the two defective units.

    Great Light
First off the light came the next day and I live in Canada so thats impressive shipping. I am a mobile Dj so i based my review on my use of the lights. After looking and re-looking at this light i finally bit the bullet and purchased it with medium to low expectations. They were blown away. They were bright enough for a 300 plus kid event. The auto setting was impressive and what really blew me away as after a solid 4 hours of use they were not even warm. I have not played with the dmx features yet but the trail one at a dance impressed me enough to want to use them more. I own Chauvet intimidators as well. These lights were as bright if not brighter by comparison. Love them so far

    PROS: Bright, Great fan

CONS: The fan was a tad bit loud but nothing to complain about

    Excellent Moving Head Light
We bought 3 of these for our church. We have a small stage, and we try to make our setup as flexible as we can. We have them mounted to the ceiling. These little lights are amazing. They are really bright. The beam is what I would call a narrow flood light. It's narrow enough to light a single portion of our stage, but wide enough to light an entire person.

The fans are a little loud, but from the floor it isn't too distracting.

We are really excited for what we will be able to do with these. I can't believe they work this well for Monoprice prices.

    PROS: Brightness

    CONS: Fans
    Good Product, Great Value
Overall I am very impressed with these fixtures. I ordered two of these as a way to enhance our church lighting rig and to keep from having to climb a ladder every time i needed to re-aim a fixture. I hung them about 22 feet off the stage about 45 degrees out from downstage center and this placement has worked perfectly. These are working great! They provide an even "medium beam" wash. Movement is smooth. This product is a great value for the price. Don't expect it to replace your high wattage incandescent lights, it just doesn't have the power, but it works great as a wash or movement effect. I am thinking about getting another pair to put on the stage as side/rear light effects.

    PROS: Smooth Panning

Uniform Color and Brightness from unit to unit

    CONS: Fan noise

DMX cables that come with the unit are flimsy and are not the locking type

Start up calibration turns on the the LED's before the head is in position.

    Nice Surprise
I bought a couple out of pure curiosity because of the ridiculous low price, so my expectations were pretty low. Boy, was I surprised. These things look amazing.

I used Martin MAC-101's at my last big show and loved them. When I used these for a small gig they actually looked so similar to the Martins that I planned on purchasing, I changed my mind and I'm going to buy a bunch more of these instead.

PROS: Slow movements are smooth, but it actually can move pretty fast too. Way brighter than expected. These things are the real deal.

    CONS: None so far.

I've been looking for reliable moderately priced moving head lights for some time. The ones I purchased directly from China and from other vendors didn't hold up well. I'm hoping that these lights will perform for a reasonable time, and purchase them specifically from mono price based on their excellent warranty

PROS: Worked as advertised. I purchased three and have them working in synchronization they are reasonably bright. I've purchased other lights in the past and they didn't seem to last very long. I'm hoping these lights will perform for a longer time. I specifically purchase them from Mono price due to their excellent warranty policies. Hope I don't need the warranty.

CONS: Have no cons at this time

    Nice for the Price
I run a stage for a high school and these are my first moving head lights on our stage. They are really nice for the price but you do get what you pay for. They are limited due to them being only RGB. They are bright but in a full light stage you will not be able to see them very well. I am going to use them for accent lighting in darker scenes.

PROS: Small, bright for the size, large range of motion, able to adjust angle for automatic motion. All around a nice light for a DJ or small stage setting.

CONS: fan is noisy but not really if you are going to have music and other things going on. I would use for mostly down lighting or color effects. You can get color separation or blurry effect
