    48-Point TRS Patchbay

Route and reroute your audio signals quickly and easily using this 48-Point TRS Patchbay from Monoprice!

This patchbay features 24 connection modules with 48 connection points on the front and another 48 on the rear for a total of 96 TRS jacks. The circuitry in each module allows for four different routing options, depending on which jacks are used.

In Parallel mode, the signal is normally routed from the upper rear input jack to the lower rear output jack. However, inserting a plug into the lower front breaks the internal link between the two rear jacks and instead routes the signal from the lower front input jack to the lower rear output jack, effectively operating as an audio switch.

In Half-Normalled mode, the signal is again normally routed from the upper rear input jack to the lower rear output jack. However, if you insert a plug into the upper front jack the original signal flow remains uninterrupted, but the signal also flows out of the upper front jack, effectively operating as an audio splitter.

In Normalled mode, the signal is again normally routed from the upper rear input jack to the lower rear output jack. Inserting a plug into both the upper and lower front jacks will interrupt the internal linkage between the rear jacks and change the signal flow to go from the upper rear input to the upper front output and from the lower front input to the lower rear output, effectively operating as an insert.

Finally, in De-Normalled mode, the signal routes directly to and from the upper jacks and simultaneously to and from the lower jacks.

The patchbay is 1U tall and is designed for mounting in a standard 19" equipment rack. It also comes with four stick-on rubber feet for tabletop use. It measures 19.0" x 1.7" x 3.2" (483 x 44 x 85 mm) and weighs 4.2 lbs. (1.9kg).

I have used patchbays many times fr patching mic or line level signals. Is it ok to run a powered signal through a patchbay? For example, come out of an amplifier into a patch bay and use it to route the signal to different speakers.

BEST ANSWER: Technically the patchbay will work for speaker level connections. However, since this is a TRS unit and designed for speakers you will most likely experience some signal loss. Your amplifier will also run much hotter as the TRS Patchbay will add quite a bit of resistance to output. It is not recommended for powered signals.

    Solid Patch Bay
This is a well build and solid patch bay. There's not much more to say about this kind of product. The normalling is done intelligently, with no internal switching required.

PROS: Good price point, heavy duty.

    CONS: It's heavy?
