Sound Block Passive Direct Box with Ground Lift and Attenuator

Throw the Sound Block in a bag, trunk, or anywhere cable and misc. audio supplies are stored. The heavy-duty construction and passive electronics make the Sound Block nearly indestructible. This Direct Interface is extremely versatile as a Lo to Hi-Z transformer for electric instruments and devices to XLR mic inputs or as Lo-Hi-Z to use a microphone with a guitar amp (not recommended only because guitar amps make terrible PAs). High level outputs from active instruments and even speaker outputs are not a problem when using the -20 or -40 db attenuator switch. The Sound Block is a very easy to use passive device. Simply plug your 1/4" output from a guitar or electric piano, plug an XLR cable into your mixer's channel input, and you're done. A ground lift is provided for use in older buildings with janky wiring or if circuits are different from stage to where the sound system is located.

    Features:

    • Heavy-duty 14 gauge steel construction
    • Bi-directional impedance matching
    • Use with high output signals, including speakers
    • -20dB and -40dB pad options
    • Easy to use passive electronic device
    • Control hum and buzz from stage with the ground lift

Could you use this as an attenuator between a guitar amp and the speakers themselves using unshielded 1/4 jack speaker cables to connect both? If so, do you know what ohms the amp output as well as the speaker cab need be? Can you go from a 4 ohms to an 8ohms?

    Thanks

BEST ANSWER: NO - This is designed to take an UN-BALANCED - LINE-Level signal, such as from a keyboard or guitar and convert it to a BALANCED, mic level signal to connect to the input of a mixer or other mic pre-amp. What you're wanting to do requires a more expensive load device that they don't sell here. Try searching Headload to see what's available.
So If I wanted to plug my guitar into a live sound system, I press the ground switch, plug in to the box, and press the ground switch again?

BEST ANSWER: No. The ground switch is used to clear up ground noise. Typically you plug your guitar into the direct box and the PA and if there is noise try the other setting of the ground switch to see which setting results in less noise ( buzz)
I have a controller that has +4 dBu RCA outs. Can I use two of these boxes to balance my signal? Will the resultant balanced signal be significantly attenuated?

BEST ANSWER: If the Attenuate switch is set to "0" it will not affect signal strength.

    good product
This is a very well built direct box for the money. A comparable product would cost around $50.00

Gread DI box at a great price!
This does exactly what you want a DI box to do. You can adjust the DB level and cut the ground noise and you don't break the bank to do it.

    A Great Value
I have tried this with a keyboard and an acoustic guitar so far. No signal loss or noise, just a solid balanced output. You can not beat these for the value!! They are solid, compact and do their job well.

    Bought 6
I bought 6 of these DI boxes as soon as they came out. The price is fantastic, I took the first one apart to see if it was well constructed and the build quality seems very good, better than some that I have paid much more for.

I've used them for several gigs now on many types of instruments and they work great! I had a mandolin pickup that required an active DI at one event, but these worked great for all of the other stringed inst pickups and keyboards.

Had one stage that had noise problems and the ground lift switches cured the buzz.

All in All a Great Buy!

    PROS: Price is great!

    solid

    clean sound

    CONS: sponge rubber feet

    Great unit! Price and Performance.
The unit works very well right out of the box. Used the ground switch to eliminate the hum and started the recording process thru my Fire Pod. What a big difference in sound quality and Deb gain.
