How thick is the quilted Maple top?
Richard G. B
on Oct 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The entire guitar body is about 1 7/16" thick, but the bindings make it difficult to tell the thickness of the Maple top veneer. I wouldn't try to refinish it, there might not be enough veneer to sand away.

Have you taken out one of the pickups? That way you can see how thick the veneer is.

There is an adjustable truss rod if that's what you're asking. An Allen wrench for the truss rod is provided with the guitar. Mine did not require truss rod adjustment.

I really like the appearance of the quilted maple top in the advertisement. However, when I read the reviews for the quilted top guitar, several people were very disappointed with the appearance of the top. (and others loved the appearance of the guitars that they purchased.) I also noticed that Monoprice offers a 30 day money back guarantee. If I were to order one of these and found the appearance of the top to be lacking, would the money back guarantee apply?

As this is a natural wood product, some do come out nicer than others. Your 30day MBG is fully applicable if you are not satisfied with the finish.

Are the pole pieces in the pickups adjustable? I tried to turn a few with a screwdriver and then didn’t turn easily; I didn’t want to break anything so I just left them alone but one string is quite a bit louder than the others right now? Related: are the magnets swappable if I wanted to try that?

Could this guitar be configured for a lefty?

I ordered this model and it arrived 3 days before the shipping estimate. Unfortunately, the nut was cut too deeply for the high B and E strings and the instrument was unplayable without replacing the nut. The finish was not as lustrous as the site picture. Monoprice quickly replaced the instrument in a no-hassle process. The second instrument was playable and the finish was very much like the site picture. My biggest issue with the site description is that it states that the guitar will be completely set up and ready to play right out of the box. With both instruments I received, these statements are completely false. Every string buzzed on multiple frets and intonation was far out on 5 of 6 strings. After resetting the neck, raising the bridge, setting intonation, and raising the pickups it came to life. The headstock design and tuners make for smooth tuning. The tuner knobs look like they are made of cheap plastic so I am not expecting long life. Except for access covers, the body and neck finish is surprisingly good. For the money I saved compared to a similar style Gibson I can afford to eventually replace the tuners, control pots / capacitors, and pickups with higher quality parts and still come out ahead. In the meantime, I believe this guitar will serve me well as I improve my skills.

Decent base to build on
One of these days, I'll stop buying crappy low-priced guitars. But today is not that day.
The construction and finish of the guitar I received was excellent. The much-vaunted professional setup appears to have been skipped. I had to adjust the neck, the bridge height, and the intonation, as it was not tunable as shipped. The 14th fretwire is lifted 2mm off of the fretboard on the high E side of the neck. The frets need some polishing overall. The bridge pickup is miswired: in the middle switch position, only the neck pickup is on. The pickups and tuners are decent, but not extraordinary. It sounds and plays a lot better after replacing the stock strings, which sound like galvanized fence wire.
I would compare this to buying a used $500 guitar for $200 that needs $200+ of work to be a good guitar. It's a good deal if you expect to put in some time and money to be playable.

Absolutely no regrets
When buying this guitar I noticed that the few reviews for this color were all very negative. That was not my experience at all. This guitar, out of the box, was very nicely set up, the sound was just as you would expect from a Les Paul imitator. The quality of the guitar all around is *much* better than expected at this price point. Amazing value.

I was nervous about ordering online. .
Delivery on time
Guitar looks and finish outstanding
Neck straight. ..tuners OK ..guitar stays in tune..fret board a little rough but after playing and bending strings it's wearing in nice...will polish it out when changing strings. Frets not sharp but could use a little help..the nut was uneven creating buzz on B E..
Live chat and pics to customer service ..sending me a new nut..
But I wasn't expecting playable out of box..(as advertised )
Pick ups ..electronics good. . At least for me ..a novice player "with a cheesy little amp" ..the small set backs not a deal breaker..
Customer service was great.
Live chat is the way to go
.phone time was 30 to 40 minutes wait..email was acknowledged me but did not respond. .
Overall love the guitar
Great price point
Good customer service
Yes I would order through monoprice again. .

Can't beat it for the price
I have a sunburst Route 66 (pre-Indio) and this one is much nicer. Significantly lighter in weight. Sounds better. Beautiful finish. Smooth tuners. Good sustain. Pickups sound pretty good, bridge pickup is fairly hot. I opened up the back panels and inspected the electronics; one of the pickup wires was pinched under a volume pot. Easily corrected. Good action. Only adjustment necessary was tweaking the intonation on a couple of strings. Quilted maple is very pretty, but the book matching is not perfectly symmetrical like you see in the photos. Fingerboard is a little rough, making bending more difficult. Hopefully some polishing will fix that. This one's a keeper. I picked mine up on sale plus the 20% Labor Day discount. Would have been five stars if not for the pinched wire and rough fingerboard.
