A decent controller that could have been the best
I love the DualShock 2. It's probably my favorite game controller ever made. And once I bought a USB adapter for the DualShock 2, it became my controller of choice for the PC. But my DS2 got old. It needed to be replaced. I'd hoped the DualShock 4 would be a worthy successor.

    And it almost is. Almost.

The analog sticks feel too small. I have to stretch my thumb further in order to make contact with the stick's surface, and it takes more effort to move the stick. If I use the DualShock 4 for too long, my thumb begins to ache in a way it never did with the DS2.

The removal of the "Start" and "Select" buttons in favor of a giant touch pad and "Share" and "Options" buttons are annoying. Basically nothing uses the touch pad on PC, and it's harder to reach the other two buttons in their new positions. Again, like the smaller analog sticks, it's just kind of uncomfortable.

The analog triggers are fine, but there's a sharp ridge around them on the controller's molding. Typically I work the triggers with my index fingers, and when I do, my middle fingers tend to unconsciously rub up against this sharp ridge, making them sore.

It's far from a terrible controller, but given the legacy of the Playstation DualShock, the Dualshock 4 falls short of Sony's typical standards.
